What is more useful... looking at a limited amount of heavily edited video, or having a defensive coordinator who was their secondary coach last year?

Better production at tight end would be good too. I like Fasano, but he's fairly average.

I choose to look at like this: The Fins are a competitive team that no one is going to look forward to playing. There is definite improvement week to week. We may have our QB of the future-- he needs seasoning but I like what I've seen from such a raw prospect. We might have our long term head coach. I like Philbin. He's smart and implacable. I think he will be a good coach. We have lots of

Actually in his rookie year, Brady was 1 for 3 for 6 yards. In his second year he won the famous overtime "tuck rule" game against Oakland which was pure bullshit because he fumbled and should've lost that game. He also had Adam Vinatieri on his team instead of Dan Carpenter.

Did carpenter lose the game by missing another field goal? Did Sean Smith lose the game by not making a play on Arizona's last TD? The kid just broke a rookie passing record formerly held by Marino. He did it with receivers that everyone said were the worst in the NFL. When is the last time that a Miami receiver had almost 300 yards in one game? Listen, I'm not sold on the kid yet either, but if

"Explain to me how many interceptions Brady or Montana threw in OT to lose a game." After their fourth pro game? Not sure, maybe they hadn't played well enough at that early a stage in their careers to get their teams into overtime games. The kid showed a lot of heart today. Without his play, we probably don't even get into overtime.

This is a young team that needs to learn how to finish. I'm actually encouraged. People were talking about Ariz. like they were elite. I doubt they'd want to face Miami again.

You blame RT? The kid played his friggin heart out. I'm not sure if he's the QB of the future yet, but to blame him for this loss is insane. Hopefully you were saying that tongue in cheek.

I'm no Ireland apologist. I just think that the vitriol spewed at him is disproportionate to what he's done. For example, Ireland is in no way as bad an evaluator of talent than Dave Wannstedt. That point can be made effectively in five words: "Jamar Fletcher and Eddie Moore." Honestly, I think a lot of what we have experienced in Miami is the long term effect of having had that mus

One other big difference between Tannehill and Henne-- Henne had a couple of years to prove himself, and Tannehill has had two games. Trying to make comparisons is pointless. What we know is that Henne wasn't a franchise QB. Whether or not Tannehill is will be determined down the road.

You know, I'm no fan of Ireland, though I don't loathe him like some. He certainly has made his share of boneheaded moves, but let's also, in all fairness, point out that he's made some decent moves as well. A lot of people were critical of trading for Reggie Bush when that went down (I was somewhat skeptical myself). That turned out to be a damn good move. Reggie is light years better than I w

The one pass that I'll give to our defense versus the Texans is Andre Johnson. He is the best wide receiver in the league bar none. He's probably as close to uncoverable as any receiver I've seen in a long time. He would've looked so good in aqua and orange.. sigh....

1213. Re: WR
Naanee is much like the signing of Marc Columbo last year. A head scratcher. So far, he really looks like a complete waste of a roster spot. I hope we cut our losses asap.

I really think this year is not about wins and losses and is more about watching the development of the young players on the roster. Not just the rookies, but also players like Pouncey, Odrick, Williams, Thomas, Clay etc. If they improve week by week, and we're playing better at the end of the season, I'll be happy.

One other difference-- our rookie QB threw 3 INTs and Cleveland's threw 4.

At least we had the 72 Dolphins and two hall of fame QBs. One good thing about being my age is that I at least got to enjoy two Superbowl victories. I hope my sons will be able to say the same someday.

I'd have no problem with Ireland getting the ax, but I DO NOT want Carl Peterson stepping in. That would be like firing Cam Cameron and replacing him with Rod Marinelli.

If Tannehill isn't up to the task, better we find out now. Personally, this year should be an evaluation year for the roster. Who improves and who doesn't. Who we need to replace and who is worth a roster spot. We lost a game that we had no business winning. I want to see if the team is playing better each week or not. We'll find out a lot about Tannehill next week. This was a very difficult g

The David Carr argument is in my opinion bogus. If Carr had the stuff to be a great QB, he'd have become one. There were plenty of QBs selected high in the draft that just never panned out. Plus, Carr got sacked every other play. Tannehill has been protected fairly well. Bottom line, either the kid has it or he doesn't. The only way to find out is to play him. Given that we might be picking ra

The score is inconsequential. We were never going to win this game. What is significant are all the tipped passes by Tannehill. All that matters to me is finding out whether Tannehill is going to be the longtime starter. We're still a long way from knowing this but I have to admit, this was not the best start. Time will tell.

Honestly, the score is secondary to me. I have no delusions about this year. It's going to be long and it's going to be ugly. My major focus will be on whether Tannehill looks to be the real deal. If we have found our franchise QB, the rest of the process of becoming contenders is made that much easier. The answer to whether Tannehill is the franchise QB we all hope he is, may not be determined

I'm certainly no Ireland apologist. I suspect that he is nowhere near as bad as some on this board say, but certainly he hasn't proven to be a top notch GM as of yet. Maybe he never will. I'm curious, to those who say "lets get a GM that knows what they are doing," who exactly would that be? Is it that easy to hire a GM that hits on all of his draft choices? I'm still bothered by th

Consider how the offensive line would look without Jake. This discussion seems puzzling. How can a guy that's pretty universally considered one of the two or three best tackles in the game be a "bust?" Maybe my definition of a bust is different than most. Eddie Moore was a bust. Jamar Fletcher was a bust. Hell, even Vernon Carey (who was nowhere near as good as Jake Long) wouldn't

Apparently, the Fins are in talks with Washington regarding a trade for Anthony Armstrong for Steve Slaton. If it happens, it's ironic because we cut him a few years ago.

If we're talking about replacements, and making sure that we have someone better to step in if someone is let go, it also applies to Ireland, I guess. If he's canned, what's the likelihood that Carl Peterson takes over the GM/player personnel duties? Personally, I think I'd rather have Ireland. Peterson was an unmitigated disaster in KC. Oh, for the Shula days...sigh...

The problem with assuming that Ireland will be toast is that I thought the same thing every year that Tom Olivadotti was our d coordinator and we'd lose games 50-49. I thought the same thing when we had the misfortune of Dave Wannstedt drafting players like Eddie Moore and Jamar Fletcher and yet they kept him for years. The further problem is that with this roster, it will be hard to assess Phi

One thought I had is that if the season is as ugly as most seem to think (myself included), we could end up with a very high 1st round pick. If some team is after Matt Barkley, they might make trading down attractive to us. It would be nice to have two firsts and three seconds (not to mention multiple picks in the 3rd and 6th rounds).
