Houston's defense uses "quarters" (cover 4 and cover 8) and are set up to stop the long pass/big play. The corners usually play 8 yards off the l.o.s..

This sort of plays into what we do best since we have no #1. RT will have to patient and take the underneath routes.

Their pass rush is fierce and now they've even added Whitney Mercilus (One of my favorites from this years draft) as a pass rusher/OLB to pair with another of my fav's from a few years ago...Connor Barwin.

Barwin had more sacks than Wake last year. Mercilus had 3.5 sacks in the preseason and has looked like a stud.

We are going to have to use the short quick hit passing game and dump-offs to RB's to be successfull and negate the pas rush. We are going to have to punish them early....(Javorskie Lane & Daniel Thomas)...Thomas was only one of two players to get 100 yards against Houston last year.

Also if we can catch them in the nickel, run the hurry up and just pound them in the running game....and visa versa (catch them in run D and pass).

I heard a rumor that Marshall is going to be assigned to Andre Johnson....and I sure as hell hope not. He is a phin killer. We need to have Smith on this guy.

The Texans have two new starters on the right side of the o-line this year so who knows if they are as good runnning the ball?

I think if we can limit Johnson, we can shut down the passing game. They really have no one who scares anybody outside of AJ. Kevin Walter is their #2. We should be stout vs the run.

This could be closer than most think. We are overdue to beat these guys and who better to do it than our new franchise player, Ryan Tannehill.

Those are Kubiak's words...

“I think he’s going to be a great player,”

"There’s no doubt in my mind you’re talking about a franchise player.”

We lost by 10 last year. Vontae got toasted by AJ (gave up a 43 yard pass)and Bell gave up a TD to Owen Daniels. Nolan Carroll was covering AJ on another TD...why? I don't know.

We also had a blocked FG and Carpenter missed another.

Daniel Thomas lost a fumble at Houston 46 yard line but resulted in a punt.

Chad Henne was 12/30/170/1/1

The game was almost even in every category except one....

We had 3 turnovers Houston had ZERO.
2011 L 23-13 (10)
2009 L 27-20 (7)
2008 L 29-28 (1)
2007 L 22-19 (3)
2006 L 17-15 (2)
2003 L 21-20 (1)

Typically been pretty close...4 points average loss.

We have lost to the Texans with...

Chad Henne (2x), Chad Pennington, Cleo Lemon, Daunte Culpepper and Jay Fielder.

I think this is the year we reverse the curse.

Just a few side notes:

Joe Philbin's offense ranked in the top 10 all 5 years he was OC in GB.

Mike Shermans first year as an OC was in Seattle (under Holmgren) in 1999 where he coached John Kitna to 288/525 3397 25/16 and 5 Rushing Td's. 1st place in AFC West with a 9-7 record.

In his six-year head coaching career with the Packers from 2000–05, Sherman compiled a 57–39 regular season record and a 2–4 postseason record.

In 2000, Sherman became the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. He led the Packers to five consecutive winning seasons from 2000–04. From 2002–2004, he led the Packers to three consecutive NFC North Division titles. From 2000–04, he compiled a 53–27 record, and a .663 winning percentage, which was the second highest in Packers history

Sherman led the Packers to break franchise records for rushing in 2003 and passing in 2004

He improved the Texans offense fron 28th to 14th in 2007.

I fully expect Miami to gain at least 20 yards. Maybe 25.

Our D should demand a recount by the 3rd quarter. Other than that, it could be close.

NOT!

Honestly, the score is secondary to me. I have no delusions about this year. It's going to be long and it's going to be ugly. My major focus will be on whether Tannehill looks to be the real deal. If we have found our franchise QB, the rest of the process of becoming contenders is made that much easier. The answer to whether Tannehill is the franchise QB we all hope he is, may not be determined conclusively this year, but I think we'll be closer to the answer than we are at present.

great point fins72. In addition to that, we have a lot of expiring contracts after this season. I'm looking at those guys to see who is worth keeping around who to let go after the season. Also, I'm looking at guys like Odrick, Pouncey, Thomas, Reshad Jones, etc. to see if they are improving and taking their game to a new level.

If Philbin & Sherm find a way to score points this weekend and scratch out a win they deserve coaching tandem of the year after 1 week!

it could happen. in some weird 9 layer dip universe...

This is a really tough opener and I think the league should make the Texans play with 10 on both sides of the ball.

That would be an interesting matchup.

Just do it. And shut UP!

We only have like 4 players that are 8 and 9 years in the league. The rest are rookies and 2nd 3rd 4th year players...

This is a young team and we cannot expect too much too soon.

I think they will get better as the season progresses.
