he is classy. once we decided to go with RT as the starter, there was really no need to keep the injury risky gerrard around. maybe we trade Moore to a team who loses a QB and is desperate in a few weeks, and keep Devlin as the #2.

He could still be brought back after week 1 if we found a trading partner for M. Moore, looking doubtful that that's going to happen though. I gained a lot of respect for Garrard thru HardKnocks, but one of these guys had to go. His body did him in.
I'm shocked. Ireland made the sensible decision. No matter how much better you are convinced that Garrard is OVER Moore, the fact remains that his health made Garrard a gamble.
If you're gonna have 3 QBs then Moore over Garrard was the only thing that makes sense.
Those of you who NOW are thinking Moore should be traded are also wrong.
We're not going to go through the season with a rookie starter and Devlin.
Most of the fans at the stadium do not think long term like some on this board.

He got a 1 million dollar signing bonus and $100,000 workout bonus already... I think that is what Berk was talking about.... We have 1.1 million in dead money from Garrard.

still counts $1mm against the cap

What sucks about the whole Garrard debacle, if he was healthy, he gave our team the best chance to succeed out of all the QB this year IMO..... I sure hope Philbin pulls a Harbaugh..

Garrard seemed a classy guy but lets face it hasn't played in going on two years, coming off two surgeries/rehabs in the last 9 months, 35 years old. AS much as it astonishes me to say this about Ireland, the correct decision was made for a rebuilding team with a couple of young QB's. Now lets GET the dang thing rebuilt!

Ireland seems to be doing quite well at getting us in a position for another rebuild. However, I'm not sure that is a good quality in a GM.
Now that we are rebuilding, lets get a GM that knows what they are doing so we don't go through this every 3 years.
I had a hunch he'd be the odd man out due to health & durability. Now we know why they didn't jump to trade Moore when other teams were asking about his availability a few days ago.
I'm certainly no Ireland apologist. I suspect that he is nowhere near as bad as some on this board say, but certainly he hasn't proven to be a top notch GM as of yet. Maybe he never will. I'm curious, to those who say "lets get a GM that knows what they are doing," who exactly would that be? Is it that easy to hire a GM that hits on all of his draft choices? I'm still bothered by the possibility that Carl Peterson could become Ireland's replacement should he be fired. I can't think of a worse GM than the man who set the Chiefs back years. Peterson is to GMs what Wannstedt was to coaching--clueless. Sometimes, you should be careful what you wish for.
