Agreed. Outside of Wake, the cupboard was bare when it came to pass rushers last year. Hopefully, Jordan makes Wake better and a better pass rush makes our dbs look better as well.

My satisfaction with us going with a pass rusher so early goes back to one game in particular. How many third and longs did we have the colts in last year only to see Luck sit back in the pocket for what seemed like hours and find an open receiver for the first. I know our D backs weren't stellar, but even the best defenders can't cover a receiver forever. Cam Wake was our only legitimate sack t

I really like the upside of Menelik Watson. He has all the physical tools but limited experience. He has the skill set to play LT and has just scratched the surface of his potential.

I'm not in favor of trading either 2nd round pick for the privilege of signing Brandon Albert to a contract that is much higher than he's worth. I'd rather take the best player available at 12 and then take a tackle with one of our seconds. I remember the 2008 draft where we took Jake Long #1 overall and Denver took Clady at #12. Arguably, Clady has been the better player. Whoever we would pick i

I'm by no means at all confident in Ireland running the draft based upon his rather spotty record thus far. I do have to wonder, though, how much Philbin will be involved in the selection of players. For example, speaking of the decision to sign Mike Wallace, Philbin stated that they charted every catch and every drop he made for the past two years. It's hard to believe that he wasn't intimately i

1146. Re: CBs
Smith was always a guy with tons of potential and very little production. Honestly, I doubt it will be difficult to replace someone who has been at best slightly above average. The trick is to replace him with someone who is a shut down corner. Easier said than done. Wouldn't hurt whoever plays corner if we could add someone other than Cam who can chase down QBs.

Jake has priced himself out of Miami. No way that the Fins should cough up 10 mill a year for a tackle who finished the last two years on injured reserve, and even worse than that, when he was able to play, was on a good Sunday--average. Move Martin to LT and let's pick up a tackle with one of our 2 seconds or 2 third rounders. Someone will probably pay Jake the big bucks he wants (so, good for h

I've asked this question before, but if you added a shut down corner and a ferocious pass rusher to what we already have, where would our D be? That can be added in one off season particularly with the cap room and number of picks we have.

Another year, another failure to get a Superbowl win without cheating. Pats still don't have an asterisk-free championship. The sound you're hearing is that window closing on Bellichick and Brady's fingers. In my mind, they still haven't officially won a Superbowl.

Agreed. Huge difference between Philbin and Sparano. Not wanting to kick a man when he's down, but Sparano always looked like he was so in over his head. Philbin has obvious intelligence coupled with a quiet confidence. If Ireland can keep his head out of his ass next April and make some good picks, I like the chances that Philbin will coach the team to success.

It's true we have lots of needs, but I can't help feeling that if we did no more than add a pass rusher to complement Cam Wake and even one decent cornerback, the defense would be more than adequate. The offense is where the major focus needs to be in the off season.

The jets imploding on MNF in front of a national audience-- wonderful The fact that they are eliminated from the playoffs with two games remaining, fantastic. That they have to pay Sanchez over 8 million dollars next season whether they cut him or not, priceless.... Oh, even more priceless is that they traded up to get this interception machine. What did they call him? The Sanchise? lo

I know that it's highly unlikely that they beat NE, but Buffalo is certainly in play... but for purposes of this question, assume that they win out, and finish 8-8. In that event, is the season a success? No one credibly believed we would contend this year. In fact, most of the pundits were saying the Fins would be one of the worst teams in the NFL. If they finish at .500, along with having amas

The PI call was a terrible call plain and simple. The quality of the officiating is at an all time low. Pass interference is the most inconsistently called penalty there is. What is interference one week isn't the next and vice versa. Hell, it's inconsistent from call to call i the same game. It's to the point that much of the enjoyment of watching football is taken away. At least the replacemen

If this year we could have replaced Nolan Carroll with a true lock down corner and added a pass rusher opposite Wake who had to be game planned for, how much better would our defense be? I think just those two changes alone would make a world of difference even if everything else remained the same.

Maybe it's because we suffered through several years of Sparano's mind-numbingly simplistic offense peppered with the wildcat which worked well for one year and then was a liability, but I like Philbin and think he'll be okay. He's smart and if (huge if) we can get him some talented players to work with, I think he will put a winner on the field. Hard to do that with what he's had to work with t

Joe Philbin is the least of our problems. I doubt defensive coordinators lose any sleep worrying about any of our offensive players. I remember a mustached coach who will remain nameless that had a top 5 defense and the leading rusher in the NFL and failed to make the playoffs. That's when you worry about the coach. Give Philbin a talented roster and we can more accurately gauge his coaching a

First of all, I lay about 80% of the blame on the offense which looked particularly inept yesterday. 15% on special teams and most notably Thigpen who absolutely cannot muff that punt (with Freeney's boneheaded play on the punt also contributing to the loss). But regarding our defense, has anyone else noticed how good our defense can look until near the end of the game, when we have a must stop

You also have to have a receiver that can consistently stretch the field, a running game that will consistently put you in 2nd and manageable not 2nd and 12 or 2nd and 13. You need a more consistently performing offensive line than has been on the field this year. There was a reason Manning would rather play in frigid Denver rather than sunny Miami where he already had a residence.

Starting Moore this year would have only made sense if you, 1. Thought he was the long term answer, and, 2. If you thought that playing him would make the team a serious contender. I don't believe either of these are true. Moore is a very capable backup but he's not an elite talent who can put a team on his back and win games consistently. Also, with our lack of play-makers on offense,

1. More reps for Rishard Matthews. We need to know if this guy is a keeper or not. 2. More reps for Lamar Miller and less for Reggie Bush. Again, with no playoffs to think about, we need to see if Miller can take over for Reggie next year. 3. I'd like to see a little more of Thigpen at tailback as well. The kid seems to be a playmaker and it would be nice to see what he brings to th

To you they are anti-Tannehill, to me they are just looking at the facts. I'm not making crap up about Tannehill. I'm not pretending he is something he is not. I'm pointing out that he has a huge role in the performance of our offense, and the fact that he is playing now may be as much a part of the problems our offense is having as anything. I get this is hard for you to accept, but if t

If you can't see how repetitive your Tannehill diatribes are, you either are playing games or are in denial. Any time you're tempted to post some anti Tannehill comment, take a deep breath and know that we all know what your opinion is. No need to tell us again.

Fact, he's a rookie with 19 starts in college playing for a team that's rebuilding its roster with arguably the fewest genuine playmakers in the league. As for your stating facts, my God we've heard the same thing from you over and over again. Yes, we all get it. You're not a Tannehill fan. Can we move on? Don't you have any opinions about the defense, the running game, the o line, the game plan?

Dolfanking, have you ever heard the expression beating a dead horse? Yes we all know your feelings about our starting QB (who incidentally will be our starting QB next year whether you like it or not). Let it go, man. Maybe you need an intervention?

This game shows me a couple of things 1. Tannehill needs more weapons to really show what he has. 2. New England is fairly underwhelming. With as much help from the refs that they got, it's remarkable that the game was still in doubt in the 4th quarter. 3. Cam Wake needs someone else on the opposite side of the field to take the pressure off of him 4. I might owe Dan Carpenter an ap

Actually, it was a good call. Players know that if you hit a QB in the head with anything, it's going to be roughing. The ref was in the perfect position to see it. Thomas took a chance and he lost. Playing disciplined is part of the game and in this instance, he didn't play disciplined. Was it lucky for us? Damn right... but it was the right call. Now don't get me started on the non calls I

Nice kickoff by Carpenter to the 3 yard line. I so want him gone next year.
