Patterson likely doesn't make an impact in 2013. He's very inexperienced, and wasn't overwhelmingly productive in his one season of playing in a major conference.

There are a ton of corners available in free agency:
Brent Grimes
Chris Houston
Adam Jones
Aqib Talib
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
Keenan Lewis
Greg Toler
Bradley Fletcher
Derek Cox
Darius Butler
EJ Biggers
Cary Williams
Tracy Porter
And there are more. They can't all get paid. Is there anyone on the list above who you would think that Sean Smith is way better than? I think he's

There are a lot of tackles on the free agent market, including Sebastian Vollmer, Branden Albert, William Beatty, Sam Baker, and Gosder Cherilus. They aren't all going to get massive contracts because the money simply isn't there to allow that to happen.

Here is the myth of Sean Smith: He did a great job shutting down Larry Fitzgerald and AJ Green, and that shows how much potential he has.
Is this really the case? Let's start with the game against Larry Fitzgerald, when Sean Smith had his only 2 INTS of the season. In that game, Fitzgerald had 8 catches for 64 yards, with 1 TD. The 64 yards is impressive for Smith, but 8 catches and 1 TD? Fit

Josh Morgan got $6M per year last season. Laurent Robinson got $7M per season. Robert Meachem got almost $7M per season.

Soliai is not a classic 4-3 DT. Taking on double teams is not a big part of the 4-3. With 4 D-linemen, the offense can only double team one guy. And it's not always the same one. A NT in the 3-4 has to take on double teams on every play. That's not the case in the 4-3. A pure 4-3 DT is a guy who can stay on the field for all 3 downs. That's not Soliai. He rushed the passer 100 more times in 2012

I agree that we could use a more explosive slot WR. But, Harvin has averaged 11.8 yards per

The stat refers to targets 20 yards or more downfield. It's not pass plays that resulted in gains of 20 yards or more.
It's no surprise. He's slow and small. That's why he plays the slot. And that's why he doesn't run many deep routes.
I don't understand why anyone would think Welker is a target for us in free agency. He doesn't address the glaring need. Is he better than Bess? Yes, but onl

He has never got along with coaches. Any of them. Going back to at least college. Philbin will never even consider this guy.

He hasn't made the Pro Bowl yet. And while he rarely got beat on the pass rush this year, he still doesn't hold the point of attack well enough. He allowed rushers to get too deep, at times.

This is a point that Omar Kelly made recently, and you can see it in some of the posts people have made. And in just history. Successful offensive lines are built in many ways. The early 70's Dolphins had maybe the best line in the history of the league

This is sort of true, for outside rushers. But, no matter what kind of QB you are, you can't have pressure coming up

Starks could get as much as $8M or so on the open market. It could be awfully difficult for Miami to swallow that, and be paying $16M combined to your 2 DTs, considering one of them comes off the field in passing situations. And if they want to re-sign Clemons and Hartline, and bring in a top WR, and possibly add an OT/TE/CB/DE, and sign Reshad Jones to an extension, that kind of money for Starks

People have to keep in mind, the difference between Parcells' personnel and Philbin's personnel is huge. Everyone says this is Ireland's year. The reality is that it is going to take time to turn this roster over.
Parcells believed in bigger, stronger. Philbin wants faster, smarter.
The o-line was built for a straight ahead, man blocking scheme. That's what Parcells believed in. Philbin wa

Bess could be an important piece to the right team. For example, say Brandon Stokley retires. With Thomas and Decker on the outside, and Manning at QB, Bess would be a huge piece of the puzzle for Denver. They already have their big play WRs and TD scorers. Bess would likely get less catches for them than us, but he'd be more useful to them, if that makes sense.

The belief in New England (where I live) is that the Patriots will franchise tag Welker for one season.
The Pats are a team that could take on Harvin, though. With Belichick and Brady, they can take on a problem child and try to mak

Martin excelled run blocking at LT, but was bad in pass protection at both positions.
At LT, Martin allowed 2 sacks, 2 hits, and 17 hurries. That is over 4 QB disruptions allowed per game at LT. He allowed 3.5 pressur

Welker was targeted 166 times this season, by far, the most on the Patriots. He was their #1 option.
