The profootballfocus.com 2012 season grades for the unrestricted free agent WRs. 1) Wes Welker +14.1 2) Danny Amendola +13.0 3) Brandon Stokley +10.2 ***those top 3 are all slot guys who don't fit our needs*** 4) Dwayne Bowe +8.5 5) Domenik Hixon +8.2 6) Brian Hartline +7.1 7) Brandon Gibson +6.6 (he had a good game against Sean Smith, ha!) 8) Randy Moss +3.7 9) Greg Jennings +3.4 1

Short routes like slants and crossing patterns are staples of the WCO. But, more than that, last year Philbin talked about the WRs needing to be interchangeable, that you need guys who can play X, Z, and slot. Hartline fit that mold perfectly. Jennings does, too. Does Wallace? I don't think so. To me, he is strictly an X. But, I'm no expert, so I could be totally wrong. Wallace is going to com

While Jennings may be the best fit, I am concerned about him turning 30, and having missed 11 of his last 22 games with injuries. And a torn abdominal muscle that required surgery is a pretty significant injury. And how does he do in an offense when he doesn't have a supporting cast like he had in Green Bay? With Wallace, I worry that he is not a fit in this system. He was asked to run shorter

Soliai comes out in passing situations, Soliai doesn't. Starks made the Pro Bowl this year, Soliai didn't. Starks should make more than Soliai. Soliai is making $8M this year. It's hard to ask Starks to settle for 25%

246. Re: Wait
It sounds good in practice, but the most talented guys get signed first. If you wait on signing a free agent WR, you will be stuck throwing money at Malcolm Floyd. If you want an impact, big name free agent, you have to be in the bidding right away. Say we want a WR and pass rusher in free agency. If we wait one of the big 3 WR and Michael Johnson, we are going to have to overpay. It's a given

Soliai made $4M last year, and is due $8M this year. He plays way fewer snaps than Starks. Do you think Starks is settling for 25% less than Soliai? A top WR is going to cost us at least $8M, if it's Jennings. Bowe is going to be $10M. Wallace is going to be $11M. Nate Garner made over $1M last year. Artis Hicks made over $2M. Ryan Cook made over $1M. When you start adding veterans to fill

For the West Coast Offense and what Philbin/Sherman have mentioned: 1) Precise route running is imperative 2) Versatile enough to play any of the WR positions, WRs should be interchangeable 3) Must have very good hands 4) Intelligence, must be able to read coverages on the fly for sight adjustments/option routes So, when you read about guys who run poor routes or drop a lot of passes, mo

According to Pro Football Focus, Sean Smith allowed 40 first down conversions and 6 TDs this season. The combined total of 46 was the most allowed by any corner in the league.

Philbin's ideal is to build through the draft. So, we're not going to be filling a lot of positions in free agency. And while we do have $48M in cap space, a lot is going to be eaten up in just re-signing some of our own guys. I think there will be room to sign two big $ free agents. And I would bet on pass rusher and WR. Both of those positions are extremely difficult to fill with rookies, if yo

There needs to be third choice, which would be "who cares about the pro bowl?"

It's logic. If they want to give Tannehill more weapons in 2013, they need to get a free agent WR. Over the last 4 year

The production doesn't seem special? Those two seasons of over 1150 yards would rank 6th and 7th best in Dolphins history. The year with 15 TDs would rank 2nd all time. It's not just one bad QB that Bowe has played with. Part of the point is that he has played with 6 bad QBs in 6 seasons. What would he do with one consistent, solid QB, who he can build a chemistry with? Like Wallace has been a

With Ellis making $3M per year, it would be surprising to see a team spend big money on a second RB. Veteran RBs don't usually do too well on the open market.
