I would have said (1) Marshall's dropped TD pass (which would have kept Carpenter from missing one FG) (2) Carpenter's other miss (3) Colombo letting Williams hit Henne's arm causing the INT that turned into a TD a couple plays later The fumble really hurt for sure, but points were taken away from us and practically gift-wrapped by us on the plays above. By my count, it's a 17-point swing

My take on keeping/firing Sparano now or within the next ~month is that I hope it's not a complete house cleaning. I truly believe our overall level of talent has increased relatively steadily over the past 3 years. I like Daboll so far. I like Henne pretty well. Side note: I wasn't able to see the game live, saw the stats, thought Henne probably sucked, watched the game on rewind and feel

You let Garrard go and have L. McCown throw for 6/19 against the Jets. With his 4 INT, he has just about as many completions to the Jets as he does to his own team. C'mon...

OL - the 2nd most important unit on an NFL team. For comparison's sake, our OL features: Long #1 overall Incognito 3rd round STL Pouncey 1st round Carey 1st round Colombo 1st round CHI I will concede that none of the Pats' OL are "1st rounders who washed out with their last team", but it's not like we haven't invested in high-round pick talent. Incognito, I think I remember,

Henne even led the team in rushing with 59 yards on 7 runs including a TD. His interception was the last 'who cares' play. I have been a pretty strong (relatively speaking) Henne apologist, and I'm not going to count that one against him. His yards/completion were fantastic...even a bit better than Brady's if he had not hit the 99-yarder. That said, Henne and Marshall (or whoever) need to f

The Brees thing was lucicrous. I remember that my parents didn't have cable and actually had it hooked up for the weekend while my family & I were visiting so I could watch the draft. I nearly threw something through their screen when we picked Jamar. It wasn't that Brees was not on the Phins radar or that hindsight is 20/20. EVERYONE was talking about how he would be a great fit with the

This is a game where the defense really needs to be at their finest. There are games this season, I'm moderately confident, when we'll be able to win with offense and an off day by the defense. However, Monday is a game in which the defense has to be lights out in the secondary and pass rush and the offense has to be more about keeping the ball away from NE's offense (long drives, no turnovers)

I don't know about declining ability, but he was an anchor on the KC line forever and their running game (with the exception of a couple of years) has been stellar forever. Priest Holmes to Larry Johnson to Jamaal Charles. Plus, I would think NE would be the perfect place for a declining OL to go what with all the stuff they get away with that would be penalties for most of the other 31 teams

C'mon, we let him go so we could bring in: - Procter - Berger - McQuistan - and this year, Colombo Seriously, Dallas has 60% of their line going to the Pro Bowl (Davis, Gurode, Flozelle) and we pick up "the others". I'm certain that familiarity had something to do with it. Perhaps they thought that the backup to a pro-bowl lineman is destined to be better than whoever we ha

Mando even said that his 3 incompletes were all drops. I didn't See the game, but if true that's pretty amazing esp considering nothing else working around him to speak of. I'm not convinced but still optimistic.

1033. Re: DL
I agree - I wouldn't give any of them away. Everyone has a value, and their value shouldn't be diminished just because of our (one team's supply). Who is thin @ DE?

I would expect 3500+ yards, 25 TD 15 INT on 65%. I could easily see more yards. He had 3300 in about 14.5 games last year and Daboll seems like he'd like to throw it a bit more often than Henning. I think his INT will be down some because of a more effective short passing game and the speed of Gates opening up some space for other receivers and MAYBE defenders will drop some INT more in line

Didn't he live on the deep ball at MICH? My guess is that we didn't practice it enough in the past couple years...didn't attempt it enough in games...therefore, when it came time to produce, it was as if it was not practiced enough and not attempted often enough. I know that he has the arm and an ability to hit the long throw (see Ginn streaking behind Revis and some other member of the Jet

I think Thomas was a converted QB, so he can probably throw a bit.

I know it's too early to say anything definitive, but I was thinking the same thing. I think a lot of it has to do with filling some glaring holes on our offense, but it looks like every player drafted (save Kearse) could contribute meaningfully this year. And Kearse apparently is impressive enough to worry abt whether he can get on the practice squad.

I have only seen highlights on NFL.com, but I really liked the pass to BM on the crossing pattern. Brandon didn't have to break stride one bit, which was a thing of beauty considering he usually came to a stop and then sort of slid down backwards trying to reverse direction last year. Nice timing, accuracy & placement. Just one pass, though.

I would agree with that wholeheartedly. The most glaring perceived need was only addressed marginally, in the opinion of most of us (myself included). And, it's a need that could have been addressed for 'win now', or at least a good attempt at 'win now'. My perspective has evolved over the past several years to the place where I believe a team can only go so far without a good-to-great QB...

Count me among those who are wondering why we're not looking at Waters or Leonard Davis. Waters was a part of the great running games/offenses in KC a good while ago, and they were a great running team last year. Don't get me wrong, I like Carey and Garner, but there's some really quality folks out there, too.

Optimistically, I'm with Treasure at 11-5. I think our strengths can outweigh our deficiencies enough to prop up 11 wins. There's no way our OL will be as bad as last year...our D should be really, really good & bordering on best in league...our ST can't be as bad...and we can't have all the bad luck we seemed to last year (dropped INT, etc.). However, if we start bad, we will have a ter

Crowder - I was thinking the same thing as I wrote the longer post. I think they do think Mallet has franchise QB potential. If he truly does, he should have been drafted in the top 45 by any logical GM. However, if he spends a couple years behind Brady and then develops into one, no one will ever know for sure if he was coming out of college or not. I don't think anyone can argue that he doe

I basically agree. However, I think it brings a new dynamic to the "top-45 or why bother" perspective. The wrinkle might be that if you have a franchise QB, you can legitimately look for a franchise QB that slips to 46+...if you don't, then you should look almost exclusively for him at <45. Also, I think Belichek makes these kinds of contrarian moves and sort of operates in his

Quick question from (possibly - sort of tough to follow the thread) a different perspective. If franchise QB is so incredibly valuable - and that value transcends team - why would NE have waited until the 3rd round to pick Mallet instead of picking him with a pick they had in the top 45? Some NE-specific factors: (1) they have a franchise QB who will probably be near the top of his game fo

Based upon these statistics, I think our new offensive strategy should be the following simple 3-step process: 1) do whatever it takes to get a first down inside the opponents 30 2) ensure that we get no fewer than 3 combined yards on 1st & 2nd downs 3) have Henne pass on 3rd and 7 or less to go Obviously, this is a bit tongue-in-cheek, but there's truth in it, too. If we're able to

To my knowledge, Grove played last during a MIA preseason game last year. I am not privy to any inside information about him, but I don't know how the team gets well into training camp and preseason the year after he's hurt and then figures out that he's too bad to keep...AND has Berger as the best possible replacement we could get our hands on (apparently). Smiley apparently had a tough time

A poster on one of the newspaper sites said that the one thing he wanted was to see Henne at the end of the season basically demonstrate on the field that if he was going down he would do it HIS way rather than seemingly acquiescing to Henning's direction as the ship went down. I have mixed feelings about this. I think he might have risked career suicide doing that. I also think he might hav
