This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
I hope he's not traded unless we get that proverbial "offer you can't refuse".
When we cleaned house on defense last year, I thought we did a very good job of not throwing the baby out with the bathwater (and we got lucky, I suppose, in a couple of instances). We landed Nolan...we kept Vontae and Kendall in their places, and they did very well. We tossed out the likes of Wilson, Po

I'm not too concerned about TS2...
However, I would rank coordinators as more important to the team's success than any player or player unit than QB.
For long-term success, perhaps no other factor is more important than ownership.
For multi-season opportunities at SB(s), after ownership I would say:
1. QB
2. Head Coach
3. GM
4. Coordinators
5. OL
6. QB coach
7. Defensive front 7

Why cut him right now? We've already paid him for 2010, and we don't start paying him for 2011 until games start (I think...not sure about roster bonus or other bonuses). There's a virtual freeze on signing deals throughout the league, so who's going to sign him? We can't really sign anyone of note to replace him at the moment for the same reason.
I'm with you re: 3rd or 4th CB (if that's t

I get sick too.
However I see this differently. Palmer would be stopgap IMO. I actually drank the culpepper coolaid pretty good that offseason we got him. I'm under no such illusions with Palmer.
I'd consider (assuming cba hammered out so trades can happen) some sort of low round 2012 pick that could increase based on performance.
For the record, it would just be to have a viable vet

Honestly, the top of the 05 draft was no-man's land. We passed up Rodgers, but so did 75% of the teams. Merriman, Ware and OT Jammal Brown were picked 11, 12, 13...but weren't projected anywhere near #2.
Players that would have merited serious consideration at the time at #2:
- Alex Smith
- Aaron Rodgers
- Ronnie Brown
- Cadillac Williams
- Braylon Edwards
- maybe Cedric Benson

It comes down to conviction. If the team's leadership has a conviction about a QB in this year's draft, then I have no problem with their throwing the kitchen sink at it (reasonably, but with conviction). If they do that, then I personally hope they still keep Henne in the competition and see if a new OC & approach can un-screw him up.
If they don't have a conviction about one of the QBs

Our interior OL was so bad, I couldn't really tell who was better or worse relative to the others. I've read conflicting reports about them by folks who are supposed to know more than me.
However, not a single one of them was good relative to what they should have been, in my opinion. If Incognito wants more than he's being offered, I'd find it hard to pony up anything close to what I'd pay

Brad Smith is exactly the type of player we need more of on this team. He's selfless, smart, pretty fast, multi-talented and hard to bring down.
I'm not saying he fills a gaping hole, but he'd be a great pick-up.

BNF - I agree. If they wanted Flacco, they could have had him. We'll never know how Flacco would have performed here, but my sense is that he would not have been as successful here as he has been in Baltimore because of the time, resources, commitment, faith, etc. Baltimore as an organization has dedicated to his development and success.
While we may not agree specifically about Henne's valu

Erik Walden was making game-changing plays for GB yesterday, too. Wasn't he the sacrificial lamb before our ST coach got the ax?

I haven't a clue whether Sparano/Ireland will even be retained, but I take minor comfort in the fact that they were decisive in turning around the defense completely in one single year. Best coordinator, lots of new players, new scheme, new strategy and approach. Can it be done on offense?

In short - 'Yes'
However, I don't know that better coaching necessarily gets him where he needs to be. I would definitely agree with Monte's assessment of his deficiencies and, frankly, I would add consistent accuracy to the list of his biggest deficiencies.
But I don't necessarily agree that they can't be corrected by coaching. I think it's very hard to 100% correct these things by coach

what's the question - i thought the chimp was the one who did what his owner/trainer said to do - if that's not it, then you're right...I missed it
EDIT: the is he the guy Y/N question...got it. I stand by my answer. I don't know. I will say I feel much worse about him than I did at the end of last season, but I still don't know.
Where did it get Joey Porter when he disobeyed commands la

to expand just a bit more, I suppose I would love to have seen Henne during one of these last-minute drives in the past couple of games look up to Henning, smile...perhaps gesture a bit, and take hold of the last several plays.
He hasn't earned this right yet, but every player on the team HAD to know that the plays being called would not get them where they needed to be. We have to have a TD,

My best simple answer: I don't know
But I do know that if no receiver is running a route longer than 10 yards, it is more difficult to move 30+ yards in 19 seconds (or whatever we needed against DET).
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
This is the first I've heard of this type of consideration - do coordinators really put that much stock in how many years a head coach has left on his deal and shy away if too few? Honest question - I don't know.
One of the reasons I still support Tony for HC at this point is that he (and the staff) fixed the problem on defense last year. He sent Spags packing with a thank you...brought in N

Maybe, but not nearly all of Henne's throws force him into this motion. On many of them, he catches them in stride and then breaks his own stride after the catch.
Also, why is it that our receivers in general (and DBs at times) seem to slip on routes FAR more than our opponents? Bess slipped on the pick 6 last week, Cobbs slipped on an incomplete that could have been a pick 6. Marshall slip
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
I genuinely like Marshall a ton and think he has been very good for us this year...not great, but very good.
However, I have that enduring image as well. Why is it that he stops in his tracks just about every time he catches the ball. Not only does he stop in his tracks, but he almost begins backpedaling until he crumples to the ground. I've never understood it...is it in an attempt to get

You may be right in your thinking that none of the three will be here in 2011. If I were Ross, I'd make darn sure Henning's gone. Since it is a QB-driven league, I'd make darn sure I got as much evaluative information about Henne as I possibly could - outside of Parcells' family tree - before I give a blessing on his release. He will cost a few hundred thousand $$ and a roster space in 2011.
