I have no problem with Marshall talking to him, obviously. What sucks is that he put it out there where Moore can read it. Moore did a great job of playing aggressively and helping Marshall to one of his best seasons - 15.0 YPC! As noted, if Marshall had not dropped 1/2 dozen TDs, it would have been his best season of his career. If Moore is the starting QB game 1, how willing is he to help M

Could you post a link to the report? I haven't seen it. I'm not madly in love with the 3-4, but our defense has been pretty solid the past couple of years in that scheme. Their failing has been more about not coming up big in big moments (e.g. losing leads). Does the 4-3 address this better than the 3-4? I have my doubts. I think that's more about heart and attitude.

Don't know how much Nolan was making, but it does seem odd. Wouldn't Philbin (for instance) want the chance to hang on to Nolan...or at least to think about it? Now, our new HC doesn't have the opportunity to make that choice. I will say that I saw Sean Smith's tweet, and if he's upset about Nolan getting let go, he (Sean) should have shown up after the lockout in shape.

When did the Phins have to make the decision regarding whether to keep Nolan or not. I would have tried to at least let the new head coach decide whether to keep him or not. Our defense hasn't been absolutely stellar, but it's been very good under him...especially if you discount the 5-7 games to start this year when players were in terrible condition and simply couldn't consistently execute hi

To be honest, I could be on board with Pennington. As a matter of fact, my guess is that his on-field coaching during our 08 season was a good part of the reason Sparano looked like such a good coaching hire. Certainly I'd like a coach with more credentials, but of those without so many, he's an option I could get behind.

I don't remember the 97 scenario, but if so I'm glad Peyton did that to him and the Jets. I could barely tolerate him (though hoped for the best, obviously) when Parcells was with us.

Philbin + Flynn could have a really interesting dynamic, though not one I necessarily think is good. If we hire Philbin and he pushes to get Flynn as our new starting QB, then his runway should be pretty short in terms of Ross's patience. That should be where the rubber meets the road, and we shouldn't have to wait too long before we find out if the decision was good or bad. If the offense s

I have thought the same. Why lie when you don't have to. And why can't they keep a secret from the media. Why does the media have to even see Carl Peterson if they don't want folks to know about his involvement. Is it sloppiness or are they trying to accomplish something I don't see?

I don't know what it is about him, but I've just never really liked him as a coach. 17 years and only 6 years above .500. He had a really nice run from 99-03, but thereafter only one seriously good regular season (and 1 & done in the playoffs). Save that one regular season, his 04-10 seem like the type of seasons that have plagued us...hovering around mediocre to poor with a good (but not

Great thoughts here on Manning & Luck. With the new CBA, Cam Newton signed a 4-year deal. So, if Manning is kept by the Colts, then the clock is ticking on the time they have with Luck, should they draft him. Peyton's 2010 numbers were very good and only slightly below his career average QB rating. Unless they're convinced that he's truly damaged goods and will never be himself again, t

did we just have a 12 1/2 minute drive? That's gotta be some sort of record. 21 plays for 94 yards...wow.

DM - you might be right about Gruden dictating West Coast on offense - which could be a serious concern and one I hadn't thought about. However, I don't know that he's necessarily a 4-3 guy. When he was in OAK, it was the dominant defense across the NFL by a good long shot. And he inherited the scheme in Tampa...along with one of the better sets of defensive talents in the past 20 years. My

It was interesting to hear what their fans think their team's needs are. One fan's proposal was picks + players to make the traded as 'bust-proof' as possible. I hadn't thought of player/pick combo offers. How about something like this year's 1st, next year's 2nd, Soliai and Vontae Davis. The other interesting thing was the optimism that Manning will be back healthy next year and maybe for

Gruden inherited a SB-ready team...and got them over the hump. But, don't forget that the team they beat in the SB was the team he built during his previous years. Regarding developing a QB, he took Rich Gannon - a career backup/part-time starter and made him one of the most consistently good QBs for about 5 years in Oakland. Also, he was part of the offensive coaching staffs (and I believe

I don't understand why you're curious about peoples' opinions regarding this pair of scenarios. Is there some reason that we can't have Cowher or Gruden and a 1st round QB? Why couldn't we have our cake and eat it too?

For now, I'm with Twilley re: having someone better if you fire him. That's where it gets most complex for me. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that an unknown quantity would be better than Tony circa week 8 till now. That's probably the multi-million dollar question...has he really changed into a coach who can win consistently and when it matters? The way I'm leaning right now is t

I just read the article on Yahoo! about Archie Manning's comments regarding Luck on the Colts. Frankly, this draft is going to be a goofy but exciting one. I think the Colts are in a pickle as it relates to having both Luck and Manning on their roster at the same time...and I love it. Something's going to have to break on their part. Crazy as it sounds on the surface, I don't think it's a t

Chyren, I hadn't thought of it that way but it is so. Dallas, KC and Oakland were each riding multi-game win streaks when we played them.

This post comes close to what I have been thinking. Basically, the question in my mind was "why is it outside the realm of possibility to think that he might be considered a potential franchise QB at season's end?" Perhaps more poignantly, what is a franchise QB...how do you know if you have or might have one on your hands? Interestingly to me, the 5 QBs directly ahead of Moore in

989. Re: TEs
Yep - I hope Marshall is ready when his number is called. He added another dropped TD, and he dropped a 3rd down conversion over the middle. Gannon even mentioned that Marshall can get disinterested if he's not being fed early and often. I'm not saying that this was certainly the case on Sunday, as he was sharing in the excitement of the scoring...didn't seem sour or anything. Just something

990. TEs
I think one big key to the recent offensive success is the use of our TEs in the passing game. Fasano makes tough catches and has sticky hands in the end zone, and Clay is a younger and probably better version of David Martin that enables Fasano to excel. It reminds me a bit of 08 when Pennington was masterful with his use of the TEs. Props to the OL in pass protection that allows both of th
