The details of Volmer's contract have just become public. This may pave the way for us (or another team) to sign Winston.

At this point, I am not a huge fan of this signing. I want an impact WR via the draft (i.e. Patterson or Austin). I hope this move does not prevent that from happening. I also hope he is not making more than Bess. Gibson should not command a huge salary.
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
I like Gibson, but not enough to pay him $4 million per year. Is he really an upgrade over Bess? Bess is on the books for 3.4 million; which is fine for a #2 WR, but on the high side for a #3 guy. I wouldn't pay Gibson more than that.

Austin looks like a cross between Devin Hester and Steve Smith. I wouldn't mind taking him at 12. You don't get many opportunities to draft a guy like that. Address OT, CB, TE needs in free agency and/or in rounds 2-4. But we need a playmaker at 12.

I don't think Wallace needs to be a top 5 WR to make this work. Top 5 WRs often play on very unbalanced teams. If he stretches the field, opens up the underneath r

I would take Long at 7 over Winston at 5. HOWEVER, I would rather get Long for 6; and structure a deal that lets us walk away after 2014 if he doesn't stay healthy.
Now if it was Long at 7 or Winston at 4, I might be inclined to go with Winston
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
I think the Dolphins know that a healthy Long is still a very good player; maybe not an All-Pro, but still very good. Like many other players out there, health is the x factor.
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
The Pats offered him more per season than they offered Welker. That tells me they looked beyond his yards per reception to determine his value. Injury is still a concern; but there is a difference between having freak injuries and having a trouble spot (i.e. bad knees or a bad back).
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
If I were deciding between these two options, it would be rather easy.
Ponder at QB + Minnesota weather + Minnesota tax rates
or
Tannehill at QB + Miami weather + no income tax in Florida
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
From a media perspective, this is no-win situation for the Dolphins.
If they don't sign Wallace, the story will be that they failed to land the guy they want...again. Even though, it is only an assumption that they want Wallace.
If they do sign Wallace, the story will be that they were the only team desperate enough to pay Wallace that kind of money.
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
Everything I have read, seen or heard on this subject comes from some media dude who thinks he has it all figured out. I have never heard anyone inside the Dolphins organization say that Wallace is even the guy they want... because it would be stupid to do so. They may prefer Jennings. Or they may look to address WR in the draft.
However, the Miami media (many of whom are not Dolphins fans)

Perhaps, but he missed some would-be TDs in which Hartline was wide open down the field.
He threw the 15-25 yard pass well; but I can't think of too many 40-50 yarders that he completed.
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
One thing to remember with Hartline is how many times Tannehill overthrew him on deep, would-be TDs. Just hitting him on a few of those would have made him a 1200 yard, 3 or 4 TD WR.
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
I suspect he will be among the highest paid backup QBs in the league. He is certainly one of the best backup QBs in the league.
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
Fair enough, but I am not suggesting that he is Larry Fitzgerald or Calvin Johnson. He is a slot WR. PFF's comment that "he operates over the middle in a way only Wes Welker can arguably do better" highlights what his role is. They also commented that "unlike Welker, Amendola does have legitimately impressive hands, especially on those inside routes that routinely come at him at

Just saying: Welker was not a game changer for the Dolphins.
If you want to get good value in free agency, you have to recognize the players that are capable of doing more than they have done in the past. The alternative to that is that you pay guys for what they have done in the past, which is not always a good move either.
None of the teams interested in Jared Cook will be interested
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
You obviously have your opinion. That is fine. Mine is different from yours. I like him as a player, and everything I have read agrees with Amendola being a very talented player. Honestly, have you watched Amendola play?
Like I said, I would want him in the slot. Not out wide.
Also, did you look at the PFF grades? He grades very highly. And the Free Agent rankings are not based on X,
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
I would not sign Amendola as my top offseason WR acquisition. That has to come from one of the big name FAs or via the draft. However I would love to have him in the slot. In fact, I wouldn't be disappointed if we cut Bess and signed Amendola. Is it a gamble? Yes; but as much as a like Bess, he is not a game changer.
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
If you watch him play you will have a higher view of him then if you simply look at his stats.
I guess that could have been said of Welker when he was a Dolphin.
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
Like I said, stats don't tell the whole story. Maybe his average catch is 4 yards downfield. I would suggest that the brutal Rams offensive line plays a large part in that statistic. Bradford has to throw the ball almost immediately. Receivers can't run deep routes; there just isn't time for the route to develop. I don't love Amendola, so I really don't want to debate the subject; but if you

Sign Jennings
Sign Cook/Bennett/Keller/Finley
Sign Hartline
Cut Bess
Draft Patterson
Use Thigpen in the slot as needed
Jennings can play outside or the slot.

I apologize in advance if any of you hate fantasy football.
I play in a 14 team dynasty league, which I won this year. I just traded Andre Johnson for Tannehill, Hartline and Jennings. Johnson had a huge year, and I was trying to play that up and get younger at WR. I probably would have taken Jennings straight up for Johnson. Getting Tanny and Hartline was a bonus. Hopefully these guys ar
