Wilt was not "just a scoring machine". He is also the #1 rebounder in NBA history. He was also one of the top passing big men ever. He averaged 8.6 assists per game one year. A center averaging 8.6 assists is unheard of. That's more than Jordan ever averaged. Wilt was dominant.
Also, I didn't say that the Bulls made the finals without Jordan, but that they almost did. It took

Since you can't compare eras, I would define greatness as the extent to which a player dominated the era in which he played. That said:
MLB - Babe Ruth. No baseball player dominated an era like Ruth. Whether or not he would dominate today is a completely different question. Just as it is impossible to determine if ARod would have been great in the 1930s without any juice.
NBA - Wilt Cha

Good music can come from anywhere.
Boston and Aerosmith gotta be high on any rock fan's list.
Skynyrd, 38 Special etc are there also.
Rush and The Band were both great.
The Beatles, The Who, etc are also at or near the top.

Here comes the competition in the form of Caleb Sturgis. Wouldn't be shocked if they brought a veteran in as well.
With Bess' salary gone and Carpenter likely gone, we will have quite a bit of cap space. Free agency is not yet over. Valuable players could still be added. Having some cap room is nice.

I really liked Bess, although he never made big plays and was strictly a slot WR.
Bess will be at least the 3rd option at WR behind Gordon and Little. He will also have a lousy QB throwing to him, so I wouldn't expect a breakout year.
Considering he was going to get cut if he didn't get traded, I would say getting something is better than nothing.

I would hate to give a 2nd round pick AND pay "elite" LT money. A 4th and elite money? Sure. Maybe even a 3rd, but not a 2nd. Please Ireland - don't.

Depends on who you ask.
WalterFootball - list reliable hands as one of his strengths.
This seems fair to me from NFL.com:
"Hands are good, but not exceptional; will let some hot passes through his small hands and into his chest."

Austin is coming off seasons of 1186 and 1289 yards receiving with 101 and 114 receptions in those seasons. Ginn's most yards receiving in a single college season was 803. His highest number of receptions was 59.
Ginn never ran for more than 113 yards in a single college season. Austin ran for 643 yards last year.
Ginn was a TD threat. He totaled 11 in his last year at Ohio State.
But

I would have no problem with that. At least we would be going after a great player, and not trading down to get mediocrity.
We need to come out of this draft with at least two top flight players.

In 2012, we were a team that was 7-9, but...
we had no deep threat - which has been addressed by adding the best deep threat in the NFL
we had a rookie QB with limited college experience - who now has a full season of NFL experience

I have a feeling that 5 or 6 years from now that teams will look back and kick themselves for not grabbing Austin when they had the chance.

I want Tavon Austin and Lane Johnson. There, I said it.
We have the ammo to make this happen, and I would rather have 2 great rookies then a bunch of mediocre-rookies, which would likely happen if we trade down.
To get Austin and Johnson, I would be willing to trade the following
Pick 1-12 (which may actually land one of these guys)
both 2nd round picks
one of our 3's

So far, all of the discussion about players rising and falling is coming from media guys make borderline-educated guesses. Whenever I see someone "fall" in the draft, I think about Brady Quinn. The media hyped him bigtime and mocked the Phins for not drafting him. As it turns out, most NFL scouts were not high on him at all. He "fell" in the eyes of the media and the fans

A couple more thoughts.
Austin will very likely put on additional muscle as a pro. That happens quite often.
Steve Smith has missed a total of 8 games in the last 8 years combined. He also has about 9000 receiving yards and 53 TDs in those 8 years.
Welker has missed a total of 3 games in the last 8 years. I won't torment you with his stats, but everyone knows how great he has been.
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
It was also a different era in that defensive players could practically mug the WRs on their routes, now they can barely touch them.
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
Welker lines up in the slot, and he is much slower than Austin; which makes him more susceptible to the big hits. He has done just fine.

Steve Smith (Carolina)
Randall Cobb
Drew Brees
Russell Wilson
Wes Welker
Great talent is great talent, even if you are a bit smaller than the ideal. In addition to these guys, there have been many small RBs that have thrived, and continue to thrive, in the NFL.
Anyone remember how big Duper and Clayton were?
Duper: 5-9, 185
Clayton: 5-9, 177
And you can touch WRs less now than you

Jake was overpaid in that what he received was beyond what other LTs at his level of performance were getting paid.... and he received that because he was the number 1 overall pick.

Philbin comes from GB where up until this year, their receivers were:
Greg Jennings
Jordy Nelson
James Jones
Randall Cobb
JerMichael Finley
That group is far better and deeper than ours. The top 4 guys are home-run threats each time they touch the ball. We have one legitimate home-run threat. You may not want a WR in round 1, which is fine, but I still suspect Austin is the guy if

I don't think Jake stole money, but I think he was grossly overpaid. That said, it wasn't his fault. Number 1 overall picks were overpaid for years. Having the #1 pick was more of a punishment than anything else. Jake's play the last two years was not great. Not terrible; but not great.
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
Philbin has repeatedly made it clear that this team needs playmakers; and he is right.
So far this offseason, we have added 3 playmakers on defense (Ellerbe, Wheeler and Grimm). We lost 3 solid players (Dansby, Burnett and Smith), but I am not sure any one of them could be considered a playmaker. When healthy, I would consider all three of the new guys to be playmakers.
On offense, we h
