Every single one of us sitting in our chairs at home knew that was a stupid play call the moment it became obvious that's where Brissett was going to throw it. We didn't need to see that the CB played it well to know what a dumb idea it was. This is a one-play example of how the co-OC setup is going for us.
To quote Oscar on The Office in reference to Michael and Jim being named co-Regional

Not sure what to do about it right now, but the offense looks a lot like one with a 1st-time, 1st-year offensive line coach, co-OC's neither of whom is actually calling the plays into the QB.
Whether thinking about Tua or the individual OL players or any other player on offense, it was like seeing 11 guys line up with no plan whatsoever or idea for adjustment if Buffalo blitzed or created pres

I think it's more OL coaching than talent, in general. Last year was a bit crazy to have 3 rookie OL starting at times, but Flowers and Karras and Davis (when he started) balanced the inexperience. None of them were amazing, but they brought an element of experience.
This year:
- starting a G at C
- moving last year's RG to LG
- moving last year's RT to RG
- starting Jesse Davis at R

Yeah - even with drops, you can't be "impressive" (to quote the infamous Matt Millen's description of Brissett) when you're throwing for a decent completion % but very few yards when the defense is playing with a huge lead.
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
OL coaching has to be a huge part of it. We're starting a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounder and Davis with our top reserve a 2nd rounder. We've spent draft capital on talent and I think we have talent.
I also think that we're suffering a bit from missing out on providing some instant OL elevation through FA 2 yrs ago. Honestly, the chips didn't really fall our way when both Scherff and Thuney were

Freakin OL
- Ineligible downfield wiping out 1st down
- free rushers all over early in the game
- Jesse Davis has been the culprit in damn near every negative OL play
Others making mistakes for sure, but this game should look a LOT different if the OL even plays somewhere near average. Freakin shameful

Totally agree that it was one of the key moments and specifically the key play he made all day for us. Sort of a "moment of truth" kind of situation.
I've watched some analyses and even just a video with all of his misses from broadcast footage. I think his day, if a couple of defenders hadn't made really great plays and a big drop not occurred, could have statistically looked much

I was frustrated most of the time watching the game but stepped back to realize that any time you walk out of NE with a win, it's a good thing no matter how ugly. In general, over the past 20 years, I'll bet nearly every win by a visiting team in NE is pretty ugly because Belicheck basically takes away what you're good at - your bread & butter - and if you're gonna beat him it's likely gonna

Was wondering if there's definitive proof that the Phins were looking to pull off a trade right now? I recall Charles Robinson reporting that the Dolphins were the front-runner and challenging the team to say they weren't trying to trade for him...but nothing truly definitive. If I were Grier or Flores, I wouldn't have taken the bait.
If it is true that they tried to trade for him, I don't t

I don't know how you meet an asking price of 3 1st rounders+ without clarity on his availability. That said, I don't really blame the Phins for not cutting off the media chatter 100% right now.
My guess is:
- either the price is dramatically lower than what's been floating publicly for some time now (and I mean fire sale) or
- they're keeping it a bit warm in preparation for after the 202

I was watching some guy's analysis of Tua's preseason games, and 3 things struck me:
1. how many of the sample plays he used showed Tua converting 3rd down (and often long, 6+) through the air. I didn't count, but just noticed it as I was watching.
2. how effective the short passing g

I really think it has so much to do with coaching. A good while ago, I read an article about how NE had such a great OL coach and it basically implied that this was a major under-the-radar secret weapon – obviously Brady was the straw that stirred the drink, of course.
Our OL was a major strength when we lined up four 1st rounders (Albert, Tunsil, Pouncey, James) and they were healthy (and

OL is my favorite position group and I begrudgingly accepted, as the league changed officiating, that QB is the only position that has more impact on the game, in my opinion.
I think in the past we suffered primarily because 1st rounders played well for us when they were healthy, but our 3rd/4th+ rounders simply didn't. I view that, especially when looking at teams like the Pats, as both a re

According to Barry Jackson, the Phins offered him additional incentives but no new guaranteed money nor moving up of future money and guaranteeing it.
Directionally but w/o knowing any details, I love that. "You claim you're disrespected and not valued because of the $$ related to what you have done historically. We agree that in 2018 your play merited an extension that made you the hig

I hope it's not something Jones said in seriousness, but, unfortunately given today's athlete, I could see it. We went about architecting a team whose defense put a premium on elite CB play on both sides of the field. In both cases, we made X and Jones - at that time - the highest paid CB's in the league. As everyone knows, the next guy gets the new highest contract...it's just how things work
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
I haven't seen where Jones is asking for more money, too. Could you point me in the direction of that? If he is, that's awful.
Forum: Miami Dolphins Civilized Discussion
If it's all about money, then it seems the other team would also have to agree to whatever $ figure will make him feel valued and respected in addition to offering the Phins compensation for acquiring him.
This is off the cuff, so I may feel differently as it unfolds, but I'd tell him and his agent if they can find a team that will give us 2 1sts or a 1st and a pro bowl talent at a premium pos

X is definitely elite...right now...when he is healthy enough to start & finish seasons. Our defense is unquestionably better when he is on the field and is even built around strong man-to-man CB play.
That said, I don't think management should bend much on a situation like this unless it's a generational elite player like a Brady or Manning or Mahomes. Deion is the only CB I can think o

TV size and download speed aside, I think you're spot on. Historically (at least recently) we've had the most trouble with mobile QBs - especially when they're strong & mobile like Allen is. While I like the concept of having 2 really good CB to enable a schemed pass rush to be effective w/o elite individuals in the front 7...the kryptonite to that seems to be a QB who can (a) threaten with

I ended up liking Waddle over Smith & Chase because of the blazing speed and ability to separate. Truthfully, I think each of them could be the "best of the 3" in the circumstance that fits them the best, so I won't necessarily be shocked if Chase has a better career with Burrow. So, I ended up liking Waddle for us specifically might be the best way to describe it. I would have l

The best possible explanation I can come up with at this point is that the team needed, in Grier's and Flores' eyes, some anchor vets to provide some stability as they fully implemented:
- so much youth on the OL
- Flores' defensive scheme
That was my take when KVN was let go - he served a 1-yr purpose of being a "Flores' system" coach on the field, and his play didn't merit the

I think I lean toward taking the deal, but in a 51/49 sort of way - no Pitts, but add Lamb & #10.
Kicking myself if Pitts = Gonzalez...but kicking myself if Parsons is Kuechly.

Given the Jets trade of Darnold to Carolina, I'm re-evaluating my stance on the haul we ended up with for moving from #3 to #6. The asset is only worth what someone's willing to pay for it, so what looked like a reasonable haul including Carolina may not have been possible (i.e. Grier may have known or at least had a decent idea about this move when he was making his move to 6). If so, I see wh

Currently, I believe that the net positive impact to our team of either Pitts or Chase in the #6 spot would be more than that of Sewell. But, I have to admit that a good part of that is due to counting on our 2nd-yr OL players making good progress from last year. If they do, then I think the greater need is receiver.
If Sewell is the next Orlando Pace, Pitts the next Tony Gonzalez and Chase

Regarding Tua's individual play in the last BUF game, it wasn't good enough (nor was anyone else's during the game, in my opinion)...but it also deserves some contextualization.
Through nearly all of the 1st 3 quarters, absent a couple of unusual things, I'd contend that the most likely score at that time should have been 21-13 Buffalo, when, in reality, it stood at 35-13.

Part of the value in doing something like this is cap savings. If we were to get the same player at #8 that we would have taken at #3, we save about $13M over the course of the 4-yr contract.
I think you may be (and hope you are) underestimating what we could get by moving down.
In 2017, Chicago gave up 2017 3rd & 4th + 2018 3rd to move up from #3 to #2.
In 2018, NYJ moved from #6 t

I don't know that Waddle will last until 18, but I do think there's a fair chance that we trade down a bit (6-8 range) and still have a chance at Smith..
