I guess I'd consider Thursday's play to be much more what I expected from them all season...however, that's clearly not how it's played out over the course of the first 10 games. That said, I certainly think it can be a norm and would be reasonable to expect over the next 7 games. We didn't bring our A game, really, in my opinion...bunch of penalties, 4 sacks allowed, minimal running game. B

Been a crappy year so far and tough to get too excited about beating the Texans while turning it over 5x. But, last night's win was well-deserved and a great game to watch. Glad you were able to be there in person, Treasure.

Regarding Tua and changing your mind about him finishing out the season, since the trade deadline has passed, I think there's more upside to playing him as much as possible for the rest of the season whether we decide to trade him in the offseason or not. I think it's easy to see that Brissett is definitely not our answer at QB - much clearer to me than Tua. Regarding Tua's arm strength, I stil

Just read that Carolina will not pursue a trade for Watson at this time. Miami - if you're gonna do this right now (and I'm not saying I think it's a great idea right now) - please do not bid against yourself. It's reported that Watson has only communicated willingness to waive his no-trade clause for us. The longer HOU holds him, the worse it is for them for a variety of reasons.

Would absolutely love to know how these things go down - who's making which decisions, who's on board with them and to what extent, etc. When the 2020 FA period started, I was pretty sure we'd get Byron Jones and was not the least bit surprised we got KVN. The pickup of Shaq Lawson for $10M/yr was a head-scratcher for me, but his college coach was the DL coach, so I supposed the thought was h

I'd say count me among those who find it easier to root for Tua to guide us to wins than Watson. Also, count me among those who would think "really?! you can't come together on this specific decision that really was the absolute most critical one for this entire multi-year rebuilding process AND is the single thing that can kill a GM/coach regime the quickest?!"

Really trying to keep an open and objective mind in this and sort of recall "how we got here" specific to Tua. I'm reading that the overall issue may be his "low ceiling". I.e. even if he reaches his ceiling, it won't be good enough. In my mind, a player that compared to coming out of the draft is Drew Brees. Both guys are undersized and would be far from the top of any

I tend to think you're right that it was a huge misjudgment to think the team was ready for such a purging of player leadership. I really don't think Flores forgot how to coach overnight. And I also can't really imagine that the plan was to sign all these FAs in 2020 only to let them go after 1 season, along with other veteran leaders. It seems almost impossible that Grier & Flo would be o

Some of this is current gut feel, but I agree...and would say "if we do it before the trade deadline". As things progress with our season and how Tua performs and Watson's legal proceedings, circumstances could change, of course.

I think a good case could be made that every one of Tua's 4 interceptions were essentially unforced errors on his part. The throwaway that simply didn't make it out of bounds. 2 INTs following defensive takeaways vs. JAX & ATL. The throw into double-coverage in the end zone against ATL. It's crazy to me that his QB rating through this week's game is going to be 95.1. If you take away h

Yep - take away 3 boneheaded plays and he's playing lights out since coming back. I just don't know if he's able to develop out of making those stupid plays.

I can have grace early in a young player's career...but I gotta see progress. He's not shown any real progress in this area and, as you said, it's not on the line or anyone else. Just boneheaded decision in the moment.

You just can't have 1-2 throws every single game that are so boneheaded.

I hadn't heard that PIT offered a 2nd for Tua. They're the kind of program that generally makes good decisions and are perennially in the mix for playoffs and deep runs therein. Just gives pause - what are they seeing that we might not be.

Ross definitely has a bit of a history of involving himself in things that go south while trying to maintain an image of 'hands off...just writing big checks' ownership. I'm probably not in the same place you are in having come to a conclusion about Tua being or not being the future @ QB. I think Tua has missed 4 games - 1 for the finger thing last year and 3 with cracked ribs. That hit prob

Completely agree on 3 points: - The 2020 FA group was - as much as anything, I believe - brought in to help install & instill a system and culture. While I believe the plan was to have better (i.e. more talented) OL FA vets than Flowers & Karras, I have to believe that Flores and crew truly believed that our collection of young OL players were ready to usher in their time together.

Frankly a weird game. Refs were clearly looking to help JAX - even when calls went our way, it was Gisecki having to convince them to call the play fairly. Coaching playcall decisions were odd - like running 4th & 1 from the shotgun. RB has to go from standing still when receiving the handoff - tough to get to the line with the momentum needed. We ran for decent YPC and threw for bu

Regarding assistants, are there any available right now for the Offense that could be had? On defense, we have the same coordinator as last year and I'd hate to think that the loss of KVN & McCain (replaced by a younger but more talented Holland) made that big a difference.

I also don't think we need to completely start over. Flores has a history of leading a collection of players & coaches to overperform. This stretch is unusual for his tenure with us, and, sadly, many of us can say that we saw some of the issues he's dealing with and even working to correct (see OL). I just don't think he all the sudden forgot how to coach or the players all the sudden lost

I think they're far from the only problems, but having our 3rd different OC in 3 yrs (and this time it's co-OCs) and 4th OL coach in those 3 yrs is absolutely a huge part of the problem.

D got their asses handed to them today. Offensively - at the very least (and can't believe it's even noteworthy) seemed to have a coherent strategy and some rhythm. They played OL folks where they seemingly have the best chance to succeed. Godsey called plays directly to the QB. They slowed the pass rush pretty well by passing to the RB and generally getting the ball out of Brissett's hands

I agree, but I guess I'm hoping that it's not Grier who's making the call on where players line up. It could be that - in collaboration w/Flores and his offensive coaching staff - Grier's putting a premium on OL position flexibility when he evaluates draft prospects and FAs. I understand that positional flexibility is a good thing...I just don't think it's as good as finding the right primary

I think every team would love the opportunity to redraft every year so they could maximize every pick. And, I think (but am not 100% certain) that Grier has underperformed recently relative to his peers. Here's an example why I don't know for certain that he has: Our LT Jackson looked like a decent rookie LT with much room to grow (i.e. high ceiling) when there were serviceable veterans at LG

Good move, I think. Maybe he can discover his hands in Chicago, but he'd really proven who he was with us - a super fast dude with butterfingers.

It seems to me that, currently, the team's sort of reeling beyond what one might expect from the individual circumstances that have impacted the team so far this year - injuries being top of mind. When Raekwon & Tua went down, I told my son that the 3 players I'd least want to see injured were those 2 and X. It's like they can't get their $hit together anywhere and it's at times like these

I agree that he's at least decent and probably a bit better than. His issue so far this season, per (I think) Wingfield, has been pass pro. To me, and yes I'm piling on...perhaps too much, this is on coaching. Last year, he was actually a good pass blocker at the RB position. Absent an injury or whatever, players don't often just get bad at something they were good at. Perhaps he's not seein

Yeah, it's coaching, in my opinion. I don't think Flowers wasn't Plan A for 2020 free agency at the OL position (I believe both Thuney and Scherff were hoped for ahead of him, but both were tagged). However, he had a good 2019 in Washington with Bill Callahan as the coach there and a move to G. He's having a good season there so far in 2021, likely because they have Scherff (especially) and

Yeah, the McDaniels example is probably a bit unique. I'd imagine he's the crown prince of the Pats, awaiting Belicheck's exit. If true, his situation is not normal. It would be nice to find someone who could man the position well for 3+ years before getting scooped up as the next great HC. My sense is that Flores is a great defensive mind and a good HC with a high ceiling who has overachie

Every single one of us sitting in our chairs at home knew that was a stupid play call the moment it became obvious that's where Brissett was going to throw it. We didn't need to see that the CB played it well to know what a dumb idea it was. This is a one-play example of how the co-OC setup is going for us. To quote Oscar on The Office in reference to Michael and Jim being named co-Regional
