Loyalty is a nice thought, and there are times when it is easier to be loyal, and times where it isn't. Zach Thomas wanted to be released. he wouldn't say it publicly, but at the end of last season he took his parking sign with him. The team released him and gave him the opportunity to vie for a ring. Zach got to then choose between playing for the Patriots which he did not like...and his home

If he signs with them, I hope it is for a lot of money.... The way I see it, they need to adress some needs NOW! they either take a chance on JT or sign another iffy vet...or...they draft a young guy. JT is done and will not be a problem for Jake Long & Vernon Carey....so I would prefer they spend money on an old guy and screw themselves than to draft a young guy that we face for the ne

He was on a 2nd rounder's rookie contract; and will be replaced by a guy with a 6th round contract, and will boost the salary of 4th rounder we were going to incur anyway. financially this works in our favour.

According to the NFL draft value chart, we essentially upgraded our 4th round pick by 36 points. that is equall to a 5th round pick. So we traded Satelle for a 5th & a 6th in terms of 'value'. What must be factored in is that at the top of the 4th round there are some great picks; guys who slipped through the fast & furious day 1. That being said; we've seen lots of picks that a

Welker was a restricted free agent. - we tendered him at the 2nd rounder compensation contract. meaning any team that signed hi to a contract we refused to match would give up a 2nd rounder. -We did not have a starting Quarterback that was a long term answer. - Welker was NOT going to sign a long term deal for low pay. SO...our choice was to sign him to a high tender and pay him over

Satelle would have ended up as a back-up (despite me thinking he might bulk up and compete). Oakland has already traded their 5th rounder to Atlanta....I think their 4th would be a great deal for a starting Centre given that their 4th would be a high 4th. getting their 6th would be disappointing. Welker was a RFA who was going to cost too much to keep. That fact must be factored into any

I love to speculate about what is 'really' going on beyond appearances. Sometimes I am way off (I can admitt it), but, sometimes I feel like I am right. I am wondering to what extent the Green signing was an attempt to make it look like we DON'T need a Corner in the draft? Then I remembered how certain the experts were that we were going to draft a center...then we signed Grove. With al

I agree that he gets open on those routes, but to be honest, I have seen lots of practice clips where that is the case. I remember seeing exciting new WR's getting open against Madison & Surtain in prcatice, and me thinking...great! these must be awesome WR's to beat our Pro-bowlers......in games.....they were not open as much. London has some great physical attirbutes, but he catches t

When you look at play of the OL, play of QB to balance the D, weapons at WR to keep safeties back: Dorsett, had quality QB & WR's, as did Emmit Smith, Thurman Thomas Walter Payton did not have great supporting cast through much of his career, but he did for some years have a quality QB & passing attack. IMO, 2 guys played against stacked Defenses with little support from the pas

The fact that they only won 1 game is irrelevant when you are discussing a player being better than everyone else on the roster. The 1-15 was affected by QB play, RB injury, WR anemia, LB injury, DE getting old. You have no argument. just a strong unfounded opinion. While it is true that getting rid of him would require a CAP hit, that fact does not make it the reason he is still on the te

Mike O, you over exaggerate. And by doing so diminish the credibility of an otherwise defensible opinion. Jason Allen is far from a bust or being very bad. In 2007 he lead our team in INT's and was one of our top tacklers, despite not starting many games. If you are going to make strong statements, try to back them up with something OTHER THAN a stronger statement. It's weak, very weak.

I don't think I made that many excuses. It is common for DB's to get moved from nickel, to dime, to corner, but typically the move to safety is a permanent one. Can you name any of these common positional bounces you refferred to? I don't mean an old corner becoming safety, or a 1 time permamanet switch, but you know the back and forth switch within a season of a STARTER that you say is so

Everyone got beat by Randy Moss. Who covered Randy 1 on 1? Allen didn't play like a starter, granted; but, nor did he get to train like one. we will see. If he doesn't win the starting spot this season, I will wash my hands of him and admitt I was wrong.

Jason Allen is an athlete that has had a CRAPPY situation. he may have some limitations that have made his situation worse, but the reality is that he has been the victim of 'experimentation'. Saban drafted him as a Safety, got caught in an injury plague to our Corners and changed him to Corner, and then back to Safety. Cameron had him at corner, then when there was a ridiculous injury plag

Jason Allen did not stink. You need to back up your opinion, because a comment like that makes you lack credibility. The rason they didn't play Jason Allen more is because they had 2 good starters, and Jason was still 'learning'. This was the first season he spent 100% as a CB, and even that came at the end of Training camp. He 'almost' emerged from training camp as the starting Safety. ( w

Yes I did. Did you read my first one? It seemed like you missed my point. You ignored my discussions of Cameron Wake, and pass rushing and talked about us not needing a 'shut-down corner' which I never mentioned once. so....I expanded my thoughts.

I don't think I am panicking. I am not necessarily saying we need a 'shut down' corner either. In fact, I think our better investment is drafting a guy that helps the front 7 in getting to the Quarteback every time. How did the Giants stop the 16-0 Patriots? pass rush. Owens, Evans, and Hardy are 3 players, and along with a TE, FB, RB..someone is getting open. I don't care who we draft..we

Satele has more experience starting than Berger and almost as much as Grove in a shorter time frame. Neither of them are CLEARLY BETTER than Satele. I think this is all about pushing guys to fight for starting jobs. In theory last season starters Thomas, Smiley, and Satele could all be upgraded. Smiley was the best of the group, but he is far from Alan Faneca status. Satele, IMO has t

So now Buffalo has speedy Lee Evans, TD machine T.O., and possession guy James Hardy. Hardy didn't light up his rookie year, but with his size and hands, and now having T.O. to take pressure of Evans, there is a HUGE opportunity for him to be a KEY #3 WR. Can we cover all 3 of these guys? If we don't draft a corner we better get a guy who gets after the QB. Hopefully Cameron Wake is a

Where's the fight? What other team is in the mix? He visited Tennesse. If they had made him a good offer he never would have flown to Buffalo. Buffalo is getting a shot at getting bargain. They couldn't/wouldn't afford Coles, or Housh, ( at their age) and no-one else is putting real money on the table for T.O....so......Buffalo is in the running.

Part of me wonders if the reason they didn't sign Coles ( in addition to his age) is the fact that he would have immediate chemistry with a QB that they foresee phasing out. If the plan is to stick with C.Penn until Henne is ready ( barring Pennington lighting things up) and then making Chad Jr. the starter, then it makes sense to forgo any short term benefit of having Coles & Penn togethe

I hate to do this...but... Mike is right about Zach. he may have exaggerated it a bit, but, most of Zach's tackles occur behind him. He reads he steps up, he engages, he gets knocked/dragged back, and brings the guy down. When he was younger he had Timbo and Gardner taking on the OL and the OLB's funneling the RB to him, and he was able to knife through the traffic and drop the guy for a lo

Denver is screwed. They were successful because of a system and Head Coach who was similar to BP in that he set the tone & the expectations and no-one questioned it. Josh can not play 'tough coach' with these guys, he is not a Mike Singletary, and they will not work 100% out of fear. Their system will change, their environement will change. Now, how well they draft? who knows, we shall

Gotta agree with montequi. And I posted a thread several onths ago saying ILB was our biggest need on Defense. That isn't to say that we don't need to improve the other areas, but, ILB is where we saw the least 'playmaking' and impact. At corner, Jason Allen will likely start next season. When he came in for Will Allen he was very good. He has finally had 1 complete season at 1 position, and

Satelle got caught in the crossfire of changing schemes. He would be great in a Zone system. he is powerful and athletic and intense. Against a big NT in a zone you double team the NT and then read the LB and one guy releases once the double team has pushed the NT off the LOS. Samson would be very good at releasing and getting up to the next level, or at maintaining leverage on a NT that has

wow, you guys are mad bout this signing? there was a lot of discussion about how our OL had no depth, that once Smiley & Thomas got hurt that the play dropped off. And that we needed depth. we also have two Tackles making a crap load of money, and can't really afford another $8 million OL. Who were we going to sign? You don't sign someone else's starter to 'back-up' money, and you don'

1) Seth McKinney played during the Dolphin dark Ages of CRAPPY COACHING. I am not saying he would have been pro-bowl, but even our great players struggled to play to their potential. 2) Berger is 6'5" 310, so he is not really 'fat' by NFL OL standards. He is a competent back-up at worst and a potential starter at best. likely a very good contract 3) Samson Satelle was NOT a 'bad' cente

They had already said they need depth at Guard Joe Berger provides that. They wanted to challenge Satelle. Joe Berger accomplishes that. Joe isn't as quick as Samson, but he is beefier. Joe would be an 'adequate' center between two good Guards. Samson needs to hit the weight room and buffet table and put on 10-15 elbs if he wants to be the man & get a big contract when his rookie

I think the recent articles about us looking for a Nose tackle is a bit of subterfuge by our trifecta. 1) they are not going to tell the world what they are going to do. 2) They WILL do something to throw people off the trail 3) Ferguson is getting old...but he is still going to start this year, and Soliai is improving. Personally I think this stuff is intended to throw people off t
