I didn't like this offer to Anderson and happy DEN matched it. Poor use of cap space IMO. Jay Ajayi is ready to be a starting RB in the NFL. Give him the rock, have Damien Williams back him up, and then draft/sign some prospects. This is not hard.

Interesting assertion by Tannenbaum, wonder what makes him say that? Personnel? They're weaker now vs. the 2015 team. Coaching? LSD?

I used to think Dion Jordan was a goner. Now, with OV leaving, I'm not so sure. They really need him now.

Add CB Trumaine Johnson to your list. Another one being Franchised....same profile, same play by the current team. There's a pattern of thought here that doesn't seem to register in Tannenbaum's thick skull. Hard to compare Miller to OV. They play different positions and are used differently. I doubt Miller could hold the edge at RDE vs the run the way OV does. Again, OV is young and ascend

All of these older, veteran DEs being mentioned are fits for a team that is close, which the Dolphins are not. Why waste a contract on them? IMO Dolphins are better off passing on all of them and just promoting from within while adding talent thru the draft.

And he's only 25 years old and plays a cornerstone position.

The numbers say he is one of the Top 30 DEs in football. There are 32 teams. He's young and ascending, and one of the few good fits they have for the 4-3 scheme. They cannot replace his productivity, which means they are worse off for losing him. Keeping your own good players before trying to sign someone else's is always a smart play. Overpay? Top DEs command a premium, so you overpay. BT

Wonder if OV's imminent departure increases the chances that Dion Jordan returns to the Dolphins? He's still under contract.

All the best to OV with his new team. And we wonder why the Dolphins continue to wander in the wilderness. SMDH

Just had a cathartic session watching videos of Dan Marino, Nat Moore, Mark Clayton, Mark Duper, and several others. Sweet music. What a passing offense is SUPPOSED to look like! No hesitation...on time and on the money. Tannehill and his merry band of clowns would do well to take note.

Been a long time since my disappointment ran so deep I couldn't find words to express on my Twitter account, let alone a column for Phins.com. I'm sure I'll get it together...

With Pats, I think it comes down to coaching and preparation with heavy emphasis on prep. When Don Jones came back to Dolphins from his stint with Pats, he shared a lot of info with us on the meticulous prep they do...well beyond what Philbin was requiring. Reminded me of Shula and how he was so attentive to detail.

This issue is being overblown IMO relative to the team's ability to deal with the blitz. Tannehill and Pouncey have ability to adjust protections at any time. Since Pouncey isn't in a position to see a DB blitz, it was Tannehill's fault. 1) Recognize the blitz (did he?) 2) Adjust the pass pro (failed to do in all cases) 3) Find the open man quickly (failed to do in all cases) Grade: F

I agree with Dan Campbell in that this is the most talented team we've had in six seasons and that they aren't competing. Philbin failed to get it out of them plain and simple. This should be a playoff caliber team.

I didn't care for Tannenbaum's work with the NYJ, and have been in "show me" mode since his promotion to EVP...and I still am.

Interesting analysis here, good read. I do think you are a click or two low in your judgment of certain players like Gordon, Giesler, McNeal, Foster, Hampton, Coleman, Carey and...yes...Ginn.

I'm not paying too much attention to Tannehill's numbers at the moment, simply because the offense has been in pass-happy mode without benefit of balance or a gameplan as they keep falling behind so badly in the first quarter. This has been exacerbating their weaknesses along the OL, especially with Branden Albert < 100%. My advice: keep watching the movie and let's discuss again at midseas

No worries, this team is much more talented than their weak sisters from 2007. If Campbell can finish 8-8, he'll have done well IMO.

Ross was too loyal to Philbin, and Philbin was too loyal to Sherman and Coyle. In football, the only way people can be judged is with winning.
