Your attempts to equate one analogy with another, a favorite ploy of yours, is a basically flawed attempt to score debating points. Your attempts to pass off your opinions as fact are ludicrous.

"Example #2 3rd and inches -- run a freaking sweep pulling Gs and lose 5."
This is only one of the plays you mentioned, but you characterize it as a "bad call".

Let's examine this play. Most playcallers are going to go for a straight dive play, so the defensive line goes low and the linebackers fill the holes. Two other defenders try for penetration in the tackle area to prevent any outside move by the offense. Therefore, most defenders on the play are in the tackle box with little prospect of much movement. We run a fake dive to freeze the inside defenders and have two blockers in front of the RB, all moving to the outside. A third blocker is tasked to block the one guy on that side trying to get penetration. If his block(essentially, a trap) is successful, no other defender with the possible exception of a DB or two are in position to make a play until the play is several yards downfield, and there are leading blockers for them to contend with. Excellent chance for a good gain. The weakness of the play is the block on the one defender trying to get penetration. Unfortunately, our guy whiffed on that block, and that defender blew up the play. Not poor play calling, but poor execution screwed up that play. If you look at the play, you will see it was open to the outside. If the play works, its probably a big gainer and a "great call!" It didn't work, so its a "terrible call!"

on 3rd and inches you do a qb sneak....especially when you have a 6'4 225 pound QB....and a very good center.

Total disagreement dude… You don’t pull Gs in that situation when you know the D is going to balls-out penetration. Did you see the play? RB was TRAPPED 5 yards behind the LOS and the backside pursuit was all over him. ZERO chance for that play to work.

Pouncy + Jerry + Incognito = sufficient mass for the QB to pick up an inch. I mean if a pathetic athlete like the Lady can consistently get 'er done -- me thinks Thill might be useful in such situations - especially with a little practice.

But right now our short-yardage package is pathetic. And that's a matter the coaching staff needs to get resolved -- like RIGHT NOW!

That said. It was a total shit call. And everyone (excluding you) already knows that.

Personally, if I was going to try and defend Sherm and/or the staff -- I'd find situations that aren’t so obviously WRONG.

My opinion. Of course.

BNF.

Exactly! Whatever happened to the QB sneak? I haven't seen us run that in years.

I agree that running a slow developing sweep with your slowest RB is not what I would've called. I'll admit that a few expletives were shouted at the television after the play. That said, I don't think it's particularly fair to judge a coordinator on the basis of one call. He called a pretty good game in the fourth quarter of the Atlanta game (particularly the winning drive). The only thing I'm certain of at this point is that the offensive line has to be retooled next year. Starting the same players and expecting them to be much better is pointless. It's hard to judge players or coaches when you have a line that is being tossed around like proverbial rag dolls. An offensive line that is even average by NFL standards would make this offense exponentially better.

What.... No previous HC experience in college or Canada?

How can that be?

Colonel, on your pomposity point, when all he had to do to Vontae is tell him that the Colts made us "an offer we couldn't refuse" this pompous ass started telling him how he was not good enough for the Dolphins and how they were letting him go (just like he was being cut instead of trading).

That earned him my hatred right there at that point! I don't have any connection to Vontae Davis. The only guy that played for this team I had that kind of thing was Bob Griese.

Fact is, though, our secondary leaves a lot to be desired but that's another point.

Not too mention the fact that we didn't even run a "sweep". If anything it was a run off tackle.

Didn't we try that twice against indy with no success?

the odds would had been better to sneak instead of what they did...and tannehill had a huge hole to the right of the Oline.

And to do it with daniel thomas who is a dam bust is even more insane.

Look, you can justify going against the conventional play call on every play IN THE GAME on the basis that conventional play calls fail too.

That's goes without saying.

Nothing is EVER guaranteed.

But the reason that the conventional play call is regarded as CONVENTIONAL is because it is the BEST CHANCE thing to do under the circumstances.

Sure, every once and awhile a 'FAKE PUNT' will catch the other team off guard and the punter can run for a first down but you try that every fourth down and see how your lost record soars.

But even setting that aside, the one time you DON'T gamble is with your opportunity TO MAKE A FIRST DOWN WITH AN INCH TO GO.

I think this argument is rather silly. We are off to a better start than anyone could have expected considering our schedule. We are also developing a young QB that is showing great potential for the future.

As of today, I would say that Philbin is one of the safest coaches in the NFL in terms of job security.

Yes, he should have run a QB sneak against the Saints. Most people make mistakes. It happens.

got cha chren...............although i dont think we should be firing philbin anytime soon.

The jury still out...and we are 3-1 with the chance of been 4-1 going into the bye.

When is the last time we started 3-1 in the regular season?

We were beat in a very hostile stadium by a better team...without
some key players on defense to add to the fire. Soliai played a
few snaps wake didnt play and peterson didnt play either.

You'll see Northeast. He was outcoached in this game and will be out-coached the rest of the way. Not saying he will lose to the Ravens. Maybe Flacco won't get his confidence back but from the way I've seen Buffalo, and the Pats and the Jets play....Hold on to your hats!

We are 3-1. Try to enjoy it and hope for the best, rather than predict the worst.
