I think that the infatuation with Peters was based upon the fact that he was some undrafted TE and grew into the LT position. So, the fact that he developed that way somehow got carried overboard into this perception that he was one of the best in the league. I never saw it, but I think the perception was there.

I agree with that logic...there are teams with greater WR needs than us and more cap room. Another thing I didn't consider is that his contract is up after the year, so we'd probably have to come with a lot of $$$ to keep him. A 2nd round receiver (or even 1 @ 25) is riskier, but younger and cheaper too.

Definitely arguable, but I think he is a #1. He developed his first three years like clockwork, each year adding about 50% on top of the previous year. His 2007 work was, in my opinion, better than any Boldin year. His 16 TD and 16.1 YPC were outstanding. Last year, things were a mess for the whole team. He dropped a lot of passes, but did manage a very good YPC. I think the whole thing

Apparently the Browns are about to give Braylon Edwards to the Giants for a 2nd, a low round pick and a lesser receiver. He played lights out when there was effective QB play in Cleveland 2 years ago. He's younger than Anquan by 2.5 years, and instead of seeing if a rookie WR develops, it would likely be less risky to see if he can return to 2007 form with steadier QB play. I honestly like o

sorry - i thought Gardner went mental with us. i do remember him and T-Bo being a really great duo and huge parts of what was a very good, if not great, defense. He was certainly the best pick among that group by a long shot.

I buy into the adage, but I don't feel that it's the only thing a team has to have. I guess I feel that we're just a lot closer on the defensive side than we are to having the OL that we need to have. In our losses, the highest individual rushing total would have been Ronnie Brown's 58 yards against Houston...a game the Texans had to come from behind to win. In the other ones, our leading ru

Don't know other teams' draft histories as well, but I would think we've had one of the worst 9-year runs for top picks ever. 1995 - Billy Milner - started 9 games in 2 years w/us...out of football in 4...got us a pretty good TE in trade 1996 - Gardner - pretty darn good until he went mental 1997 - Yatil - someone mentioned 1 catch for 18 yards, it was actually 1 start, 18 receptions, 234 ya

I'm right there with you re: Duke. The end of the 1st round is a great place to pick up the draft's best guard. Also, I know the staff all love Thomas and, therefore, so do we. But, he's played about 1/4 of a game uninjured in his entire pro career. I don't think that the Thomas/Smiley combo is entrenched and healthy enough to take Guard off the board at 1. I've said it a million times, so

In my opinion, it's impossible to tell. We don't know whether Samson would have played any downs for us in the upcoming year. We don't know who we'll pick with the additional picks or how they will turn out. In theory, I think we did ok...not great...didn't get hosed. Last year, the Phins appeared to hit on all of the early picks - Long, Merling, Henne Langford. Then went about 50/50 (from

I agree that, specific to the draft, it appears that they are probably trying to cause teams not to know who or what position they're targeting. This fits into the overall strategy that I think they have implemented, which is to improve the entire roster from the top to the bottom. I, and probably many others like me, love to think about how talented our OL starters are, for instance. I.e. &

Interesting film. I would love to see some 11-on-11 where the DB has some help in taking away some of the options the WR has on his routes. I see the value in this drill, but I think it puts the DB in basically the worst position to succeed...with the WR having all of the advantages of the difference between this and a real game. That said, the moves he used to get open to the outside and on

The talent is undeniable, but he has been pretty inconsistent in his short career. He'll have brilliant games nestled into very pedestrian or even poor games. He also throws a lot of interceptions, having only accumulated 10 games in about 2.5 seasons in which he has not thrown one or more interceptions. I am personally not in favor of moving Penny this year. I am not against acquiring Cutl

This is eerily similar to another 1st-round coaching snafu - Vernon Carey. They take a player who demonstrates some flexibility (which is a good thing in and of itself) in college. Then - at the point when the most development of an NFL player occurs - they introduce additional complexity by switching up the player's position multiple times rather then letting them learn and get comfortable at

I haver read and re-read Nat Moore's comments about our WR, corps and I think his observations are very astute. I think the Trifecta sees enough in our corps to 'let it ride' for the 2009 season. If you think about it, every one of those guys had their best season ever and are not in decline in terms of age or development, nor have they plateaued. Moreover, Miami had its best year passing the

Irrespective of the penalty implications, I hope that the Jets are not quick to adopt his violent and aggressive philosophy and mentality. They comprise 1/3 of what I thought made the Ravens D so freakin' good. Another 1/3 is talent and, at least on paper, the Jets seem to have that, too. Finally, the Ravens D had chemistry, teamwork and trust. My hope is that the Jets can't achieve those to

A while ago, we (collectively) discussed whether the Phins would spend big money on a center after giving Carey his new contract. Now that we can be certain that they would have, since they did, I question the difference in what was paid vs. projected value between Jason Brown and Grove. Brown got 5 years, $37.5 mill, $20 mill guaranteed. Grove - 5 years, $30 mill, $14.5 mill. However, Brow

I hope he re-ups for a lower contract, too. I really got the feeling that he meant a lot more to our defense than just numbers. That said, it's exciting to think that this gives an opportunity to Merling. Toward the end of the year, he looked like he was ready to take the next step and start.

Man, I'd be curious to understand how NE could afford Peppers with Brady, Cassell, Moss and so many others taking up so much cap room. They must do a heckuva job of managing dead cap...

I had thought about the later trade, too. However, I don't know how anyone would beat him out of his spot w/o training camp. If I were the trifecta, I would listen to any deal that came along. They were able to get a 'next year' 2nd+ for Taylor, who didn't want to be here anyway, so they're clearly shrewd trade negotiators. If someone came in with a 'this year' 2nd before the draft, they'd
