Welker's contract had the poison pill clause that led to the trade. The tag he had allowed him to negotiate with other teams. He/his agent willingly negotiated with NE a contract that Miami basically could not match. I get that technically he was traded, but the reality is that NE threw in an extra 7th rounder to get the deal done in a less ugly 'poison pill' way. In my mind, he willingly wen

I'm sorry..."far better"?!?!
I would lump both of their production (2008-Bess & 2006-Welker) into the 'meh' (said while shrugging shoulders) category.
However, Welker did that in his 4th year, 2nd with the team. He had been training at an NFL level for 4 years and caught 29 balls for 15 YPC (his best ever by far) the previous year. Their YPC for the years in question were id

Also, for my edification, how many balls did Bess drop? I remember marveling at a few of his catches that many more tenured receivers don't make, but I do not remember any drops. I'm sure he had some, but I do not remember a single one.

Welker let a Harrington pass go right through his hands in a game against NE in 2006. The interception that resulted led to their scoring a few plays later to extend their lead from 13-10 to 20-10, the final score. To be fair, the ball didn't technically go 'on the ground'.
He had 67 catches in 2006 to lead our team when Chambers had his worst year ever as a Dolphin. That speaks more to how

Welker HAS to be a product of the system. They used him perfectly, but I don't think he has any particular skill that is unquestionably better than Bess. Note that his 2007 and 2008 stats are almost identical, except TDs. It's uncanny. His main role is to get open on relatively short routes, catch the ball and get YAC...especially by simply diving forward a split second before getting tackled

Great perspective. I hope they spend half their time on that, half on defending the Wildcat and we run for 400 yards right up the gut.

I love that they rose so high only to lose it in the last minute. Really, it couldn't have happened any better.
I agree with ghot - they cheated and choked.

At one point I was in favor of bringing on Boldin for the right price - picks, players and salary. This stuff is ridiculous, however.
If he didn't like playing in AZ, he shouldn't have signed his contract. If he thought he was going to outperform his contract, he should have negotiated incentives. If AZ didn't want to include performance incentives, he would have had the option not to sign

Yep - I agree.
We should have beaten the Jets in week 1, and we should have beaten the HOU when we played them. I just watched the replay and they converted 2 4th downs (one 4th & 10) on their last drive to win the game...man!
Those extra 55 points would have come in handy against the Pats once, AZ and BALT. But we lost those ones fair and square.
Again, I totally agree about scor

This coaching staff has already demonstrated that they're not afraid of getting creative. I like the idea. I wonder if both London and Turner will make the roster, but that's a lot of size.

this from the article on Yahoo! NFL
“Jason told me, `Tell the Dolphins whatever fits their budget, I’m ready to play,”’ Wichard said. “There were no negotiations. It was always going to be Miami.”
Say what you will about his past actions or agent posturing, but this is absolutely the right thing to say. How fantastic is this!? Like another poster said, we rented him for one y

The schedule thing only impacts wildcard teams. If you win your division, you're in. And, each team plays 14 games in 'common' with the rest of the division.
We were 0-2 against the 'variable' teams in our 4th-place schedule last year (Baltimore, Houston). We were 11-3 in our common opponent games. The Pats were also 0-2 (Indy & Pitt), going 11-3 against common opponents. The Jets got

I have been a supporter of Beck and think he got thrown into perhaps the worst rookie QB position/mess in the past 10+ years. However, I will say that, while he did demonstrate a lot of passing ability - especially in TC/preseason when games don't count, he did not demonstrate the intangibles of a QB who has potential to be great. This report doesn't surprise me at all. It also won't surprise

Hopefully the same thing it does to McGwire (formerly one of my favorite players) and Bonds and Canseco. I used to live for baseball in my youth, memorizing stats and watching/playing as much as I could. When the players and owners let the World Series go without being played in 1994, they lost me. Then, they sold their soul to regain popularity by juicing the balls and pumping the hitters up

I agree...at least enough to get him into camp and take him off the market for now. If we find out that he has nothing left, then release him. If he wants to play for the Phins that badly, he'll sign a deal that will allow him to earn incentives and get paid well and will allow the Phins to let him go with little/no financial ramifications. If he truly has nothing left in the tank, then I don'

My guess is that Belicheat is the author of the formula and that he is given an opportunity each year to tweak it in case it is somehow out of sync with the Pats' current needs.

I didn't think of it prior to the draft, but I like Davis' attitude for a CB. He seems to have that super-confidence that is pretty much must-have when facing Moss & TO twice a year (granted he probably won't be lined up against them in our first meetings with them this year).
I'm hopeful that he can keep his confidence while being coachable. I do agree that the Tri and the veteran defen

I agree, and I think that plays into my point. I don't think we'll have to overpay for past production (which has been mediocre). Who - including us - would pay big bucks for an RB who has broken 1000 yards once and is 28? I guess my perception is that he will not command that much on the open market next year if he gets about 1000 yards on about 227 carries (4.4 YPC).
I could have the whol
