He's the perfect #2. Smart, good route-runner, good hands, will fight for the catch pretty well, seems to get very good separation and YAC. I think he can beat nearly all of the #2 corners in the league pretty consistently. I think he could be exactly what we need for years in the #2 role, but I don't think he'll ever be the type that defenses change gameplans because of. A true #1 receiver p

1st idea seems like trying to legislate morality...can't be done. At the extreme, teams could field all 11 starters on both sides, take kneel-downs for every offensive play and allow TDs on every defensive play. The 2nd would likely be somewhat to very effective but would hurt the phins. Snow/cold late, lose the heat advantage early (which hasn't really helped us in years).

Yep - if Bryant is there at 12 and McLain isn't and we haven't picked up a #1 in FA, then I think he'd be a very good pick.

Ideally, our #1 WR comes as a polished, top-tier FA. Unfortunately, I don't know what the CBA stuff does to the likes of those who are scheduled to be FAs this year. However, Brandon Marshall is one who was scheduled to become one. He's the one I would target. With a proven, big, physical #1, everyone else falls nicely into place. Hartline's a stud waiting/beginning to happen for #2, Bess/Ca

we had a real chance at 2 1000-yd backs this year...would have been pretty cool.

i think you'd have to add reggie williams, mike williams, charles rogers, even roy williams to the list of high WR draft picks that haven't panned out. it's risky. holmes, like reggie wayne, was a low 1st and both were paired with great qbs

The Jets got the cheapest playoff spot in history, in my opinion. Neither Indy nor Cincy cared to even play those essentially meaningless, freakin' preseason games. They're sitting on the outside looking in while the real contenders beat each other up. What a joke!

With FA being a relative unknown, draft picks become even more important than they already were for building a team. For Calvin Johnson, I would give up a nice draft pick, but not the 1st, 3rd and 6th the 'boys gave up for Williams. I feel like I'm going out on a very short limb considering the likelihood of this ever coming to fruition, but I would give them our 2010 first for him in a heart

Jim, I agree. We were not out-talented in the HOU, BUF or TEN games. We should have won against IND and NOS. In fact, only in the ATL, NE and SDG games would I say we definitely should have lost, with all of them being win-able. Mistakes have cost us 5+ losses this year. It's truly admirable that we've achieved so much with the injury bug that has hit us. However, there's no way around it

And I thought there was a concerted effort to delay the whistle being blown by refs specifically to avoid these types of situations. I, like everyone else here, don't want to go to the refs as the reason we lost - and they punted to us the very next play. However, the dude secured the ball and took three freakin' steps!!! Blowing the whistle was a very, very bad decision. It was easy to see i

Is the JAX game a sellout? I keep reading about 40,000 in attendance. If it is not a sellout, will Sunday Ticket subscribers see a broadcast?

i was just about to post the same thing. what is this dude thinking? his sport is at a crossroads with respect to labor and ownership and the overall direction of the game's viability long-term and he's spending time dumping on a stadium (and city) that has done an amazing job of hosting so many super bowls?!?! thank goodness the pats stadium doesn't have a rain jacket or every sb for the fo

I'm actually there with many of you on Hartline. He is fast enough and good enough to get open down the field and catch the ball. Whether it's quickness, speed, smarts, route-running...he gets open down the field and catches the ball. I like him. He doesn't look like a true #1, but it would be a well-rounded WR arsenal to have Hartline, Bess in the slot, a true #1 and Ginn coming in for the o

I liked the call. I thought it gave him more options for how the game could play out. If we make it, it's tied and no more scoring in regulation = OT. If we don't, then it could have played out like it did...us only needing a FG to win which would have been the case if we had just kicked 1. But, if we make 1 and they score, then we HAVE to score a TD and get 2 just to tie and send to OT.

knee-jerk reaction on my part, but if uncapped means that football goes the way of baseball, then I will lose interest overall. I'll always be a Phinphan, but I probably won't care as much. I used to follow baseball passionately - an Oakland A's fan in the 80s and early 90s. Now, I have no idea who's good until the world series...who wins RoY, Cy, MVP, etc. I would probably turn down baseba

I was about to say that some of his lack of touch/inaccuracy was driving me nuts today - and it was. However, what I like about him is that he has the poise and the tools to make up for those. His arm is strong enough that if he misses a wide-open receiver on 2nd & 10, he has the arm strength to convert 3rd & 10 and defenses have to respect his ability to throw the ball all over the fie

Though I live in KC, I invite a couple of local NE fans over to watch most of the MIA/NE games with me. Up until the earlier game this season, Miami had won each of the games we have watched together. Started with the David Thompson 4th & 10 catch. Obviously, we didn't watch any of the 07 games. Good to get back on track this time.

Jim - Considering it's an issue I have no chance of influencing, I've spent an inordinate amount of thought about whether Ginn's shortcomings can be overcome through coaching. Sadly, I'm close to landing on the opinion that it cannot be taught or coached. Going catching the ball in traffic takes a number of things, and focus is one of them. When you're worried about being hit, you can't focu

Darrius isn't doing it very well in year one. In a very Ginn-like moment, he dropped a sure TD bomb against KC. Nicks was among the small group of players I favored the Phins to pick in the 1st round...though I wasn't disappointed when we went with Vontae. I would say that the common thread among them (minus DHB from what I've seen) is a capability and willingness run good routes and to ca

I'm there with you on Wake. Porter was the one who missed setting the edge on Fitzpatrick's TD run. In fact, the last truly notable thing I remember him doing was sacking the SF QB on 4th down last year to preserve that win. I wouldn't have a beef with Merling getting starts over Langford or just more PT. I like the rotation of DEs generally, though I noticed it was a bit out of control in

Unlike his predecessors, I think Sparano is relatively humble and able to admit faults, mistakes, whatever. So, I think it's likely that he does work to fix some of the coaching shortcomings. Perhaps the greatest example of this is his working with David Lee to introduce the Wildcat last year. He took a chance and humbled himself by, in effect, saying 'My way ain't working so good'. That sa
