NT is certainly a need for the team. I don't think there's any deception going on. Ferguson is getting old and has had injury problems in his recent past. Soliai has the size, but has tons of question marks and was not productive when he did play. And remember, he was suspended twice this season. His status on the roster is tenuous, at best.

He's a good athlete with a good motor. But, he's not instinctive and is usually a step or two late getting to where he needs to be. It's what keeps him from being a playmaker.

With the contracts given to Smiley, Long, and Carey, will Miami be willing to pay big $ for a C like Jason Brown? Maybe. It's considered a deep draft for centers, with 5 guys rated as worthy of a selection in the first 3 rounds. With Carey locked up, do they turn their free agent attention elsewhere, and plan on landing a C in the draft?

And Antonio Bryant and OJ Atogwe. I'm disappointed about Atogwe, I thought he would have been a good fit. The good news is the Ravens franchising Suggs, which means that Jason Brown will legitimately hit the free agent market.

We are only about $25M under the cap. Julius Peppers alone will eat up about $15M of that, maybe more (his franchise tage would be $16M). You have to leave a couple million to sign draft picks. That would leave enough room to sign one of the other players on the list. If Atogwe is not franchised, I can see him being a prime target for us. I think we will re-sign Carey, Bell, and Goodman. And

The ultimate draft guru is Gil Brandt on Sirius NFL Radio. I don't know that he publishes a mock draft, but during the draft, he calls almost every pick before it's made. He told his fellow panelists that we were taking Ted Ginn in 2007. They all laughed him off and said it was too early for Ginn, and then he said that the Rams would take him if we passed on him at #9.

Any draft pick guesses at this time of the year are total crapshoots. Number one, the prospects haven't had the combine yet, or any individual workouts, so there is no consensus on who ranks where. And number two, free agency hasn't started yet, so there is no sense of real team needs/. Yes, today, we have desperate needs at RT, G, ILB, CB, and S because of free agency. But, if we re-sign Carey,

You can't count on Smiley at this point. He's finished each of the last 2 seasons on IR. In 2007, it was a shoulder injury. In 2008, it was the broken leg and ligament damage. But, he's also had shoulder surgery since the end of the season because it was hurting him before the leg injury. The ligament damage also complicates his return. I wouldn't be surprised to see us draft a C fairly high, wit

Alleman was easily the worst linemen that played for us all season, which is saying something. He was a human turnstile out there. He won't challenge anyone for a starting spot. We lost Parmele during the season to the Ravens. We still have Lex Hilliard, though. Jim Leonhard is way too small to be a Parcells' defensive player (5'8, 186). And most rumors are that we will re-sign Carey.

The thing you have to remember about Mortensen is that he is a very close friend of Bill Parcells. If there is any reporter with "inside" info from Parcells, it would be Mortensen. This story isn't surprising. Realist is correct. This regime drafted Henne to be their franchise QB. Pennington fell into our laps 4 months later. We needed a veteran QB. McCown was awful in camp. They got

Now that there are 4 divisions in each conference, the difference between a 1st place schedule and a 4th place schedule is just 2 games. 14 of the 16 games are among common opponents with your division rivals. So, yes, we had an easy schedule, but so did every team in the AFC East. And next year, with the AFC East playing the AFC South and NFC South, our entire division will have to play tough sc

I loved Larry Gordon, but he was not better than Brudzinski "by a mile." Brudzinski was widely respected as one of the premier run stuffing LB in the league. He played on the strong side and was very effective at setting the edge, stuffing the TE at the line of scrimmage, and making the play on the ballcarrier. He had a very nice 13 year career. Gordon played on the weakside, so filled

I like TJ as a player. I just don't think he's a fit for our franchise. But, I also don't think Chad Pennington is the answer at QB. I don't see us being a real Super Bowl contender until Henne takes over. And when he does, the downfield passing game will be a lot more important. I feel really strongly about this. Ndukwe and Alleman were awful, and Satele has a hard time with the bigger DTs. But,

Anderson and Scott are both borderline HOFers. Oliver wasn't even in the same league. The Fins of the early 70's played primarily a 4-3. They did sort of "invent" the 3-4 because of a lot of injuries at DE. They wound up playing LB Bob Matheson at DE. But, he kept jumping offsides. To correct this, they stood him up, but kept him at the DE spot. And the 3-4 was born, but we didn't us

Well, I don't think this regime is ever going to go big after too many free agents. Will we re-sign our own? Yes, a lot of them. But, it's been proven time and time again that building through free agency isn't the right way to build a team. Once we cut Wilford, I believe that will be a $6M cap hit. So, we need to factor moves like than into the salary cap. No way would Jim Leonhard be a ta

TJ is on the wrong side of 30, will want too much money, and isn't a real downfield threat. I would much rather draft a WR than overpay a 32 year old who has always benefitted from lining up opposite Chad Johnson. We need a #1 WR, a guy who is big enough to go over the middle and be a major factor in the red zone, while also having enough speed to get downfield. TJ doesn't fit the need.

I really believe that Joey Porter could be traded if the right offer came along. I know this is not likel
