why is keeping the same structure a good thing? we just saw how dysfunctional it can be with philbin aponte. ross is nothing if not a complete idiot.
insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. didn't einstein say that?

It's not like only the successful teams have a certain type of structure and it's not like Miami has invented this one.
I'd say the dysfunction was more about the dynamic concerning the people involved than the structure. From the way it is sounding Ireland couldn't handle the lack of power, being the egomaniac that he is. Judging from the slip-ups and his history, he doesn't really have a clue how to deal with people....let alone act like a professional.
I have seen nothing to suggest JP isn't a pro...or Dawn Aponte. The more I hear the less I am concerned about her.
Sounds like Ireland rubbed both the wrong way and tried to throw both of them under the bus and it backfired!
What else would they do if JI was the ass and DA and JP had no problem with each other??....It becomes survival of the fittest at that point. Good riddance to Ireland. He was a cancer. Fought with Parcels (prob threw him under the bus too)...look at the track record.
This team now becomes very attractive to a potential GM as well as future FA's that don't have to deal with Jeff Ireland! The problems are obvious. Fill the gaps with talent and let's see what the coaches can do.

So the Fritz Pollard Alliance was telling minority GM candidates to steer clear of the phins because they said the job didn't give the gm control of the roster.
They've since changed their tune after ross' press conference.
My question, are they doing the same thing to Tampa Bay? The have a coach in place that HAS final say over the roster.

This is why I loath the beat writers and their blogs.
Salguero blogs...his opinion and purely speculation...about a riff between ireland and aponte/philbin.
a national outlet picks it up and runs with it saying it was "reported" that this acutally happened.
nothing was reported. it was speculated.
their blogs are no different than our posts. purely opinion yet the laziness of the media lets it blow up into a national story with a foundation that is nothing but one beat writers opinion.

I read that they advised against interviewing for Tampa. They are making themselves look like fools.
I mean, a promotion is a promotion. If you can go from director of college scouting to GM, get more money and a step closer to full control...why not do it?
well that's good to know. an alliance designed to help minorites get a fair shake in the hiring process is now picking and choosing said opportunities?
the whole rooney rule sucks. todd bowles, perry fewell, and jim caldwell are token interviews every year. How do you think those guys feel. At what point do they stop going through the motions.
Ray Farmer is the latest report. Worked for Carl Peterson on KC for 6-7 years (pro personnel) then Cleveland for one year as assistant GM.
Doesn't sound too impressive as Clebeland didn't do much in 2013 and I can't think of any great FA's that came to KC from 06 to 2012. Most were drafted.
Tennessee's Lake Dawson, Pittsburgh's Omar Khan, Cleveland's Ray Farmer, Arizona's Jason Licht, the New York Giants' Marc Ross and the Dolphins' Brian Gaine are all reportedly in the running for the job.
As you can see, all are from teams that didn't make the play-offs and none have had previous GM experience.

And that's the problem here in trying to assess their track records because they weren't decision makers. How can we know what moves they advocated to their bosses and what they opposed?
Reputation across the league helps, but getting the skinny depends on how well one is connected across the league. And don't put too much stock in what an NFL "source" tells the media. My experience is that those "sources" aren't always dependable and usually have their own agenda.

I really hope this report is not true. Paton hasn't been in a winning org, and certainly his association with Rick Spielman is not positive.
are we just making this up as we go? how can we still be adding interviewees after 1 week and like 5 interviews? The Bucs are giving 2d interviews and we are still talking to losers like Rick Speilman's assistant.
I hate this FO

To hell with these assistants. Let him stay in Philly. I hope they have another 4-12 season in 2014. Wait until teams figure out the latest fad that is Chip kelly. I don't exactly see them setting the league on fire in the draft.

that "something" is Gamble didn't even want to interview here, he wanted to stay in Philly. No real mystery....

So it looks like one of these guys will be the next GM.....
Lake Dawson (Titans)
George Paton (Vikings)
Brian Xanders (Lions/Broncos)
Ray Farmer (Browns)
Brian Gaine (Dolphins)
Jason Licht (Cardinals)
Omar Khan (Steelers)
Marc Ross (Giants)
Lionel Vital (Faclons)
Am I forgetting anyone that has not already declined the job?
I'm disappointed by the news of Gamble. What a bunch of junk...Well maybe Marc Ross would be ok, or just keep the status quo alive and go with Brian Gaine...not that it would be the best thing.
