So, hopefully, this means the end of Matt Moore in Miami once Alex Smith is signed. Because if the plan is for Garrard to compete with Moore, it's too depressing to think about.
Oh well, think of all the money I'll save by not getting Sunday Ticket this year!
Actually Brutus Irelandius thinks that Tebow beating Gerard out during camp won't cause as much of stir in Miami than beating out Matt Moore. All part of the grand plan...
Or Alex Smith just said to kiss his as$ and now he's on the way out as well and Brutus needs to have someone under contract to backup and compete with Moore.

More like a damn belly flop and all the water is gone out the pool.
The reports are that the deal for Garrard is similar to the ones signed by Jason Campbell and Chad Henne. If true, that means Garrard is getting about $3.5M. Unfortunately, I would rather have Campbell or Henne than Garrard.
That said, Garrard has WCO experience, and if healthy, he will likely beat out Moore. And Garrard is used to playing with almost no WR talent, so our group of receivers will seem like an upgrade to him.
My prediction, Gerard will not out-succeed Matt Moore because Matt Moore has proved that he is good at getting the best out of a crappy team.
Gerard, on the other hand, had a pretty good team with which he failed to succeed.
If it had to be either he or Alex Smith, I would have preferred Smith but with Peyton going to Denver, Smith will probably stay in San Francisco unless he wants to punish them for disloyalty.
I think all he's guaranteed to have are some cobwebs due to being out of the game for a year from having a herniated disk in his back. Hmm...maybe Parcells left his golf cart behind? Could come in handy!!!
Well at least Ireland's wet dream finally came true since he wanted to obtain Garrard before he decided to have surgery. Oh such passion Jeff Ireland has!!! Wow what a splash!!!

Uh No he missed the pool entirely, smack right on the deck....
If we get Tannehill at #8, it wouldn't shock me to see d-marks prediction of 86ing M. Moore come true, maybe a draft day trade of Moore to a team looking for competition at QB (Jets anyone?), or a quality backup (Denver if they dump Tebow?). It wont be much, but maybe a 5th/6th or 7th rnd pick?
We just have to hold our breath when Clevelands on the clock @ #4. I honestly don't think they'll take him that high, but i'm sure Sherman has connections to Holmgren and will have a feel for what he'll do (i'm not saying Holmgren will tell us what he's doing, but maybe Sherman's still tight with someone in his inner circle, or maybe he just knows him well enough to have a gut feeling)
Gerrard will not be here long term, that's why he was only signed to a one year deal...he's been brought in to compete with Moore and to be his backup, plain and simple. He's a stop-gap and an improvement on J.P. Loseman. He won't beat out Moore, and we will draft a QB at #8...Tannehill will be the guy if he's still there. If not then we try to grab Wheeden in the bottom half of round one.
The splash would have been Manning or Flynn...that didn't happen. So, staying the course along with getting upgrades, youth, and speed, added to the roster should be the focus for us now.
If we don't get Tannehill then we should go with Floyd at #8, or a big play TE...perfect fit fir the WCO.

Its an obvious sign that we've moved on from our first few options.
You guys are acting like we should stop doing business becasue we didn't get one of our top 3 options or that we should wait around to see if any of them change their mind.
We went into the off-season looking to upgrade our QB position. We had a list that prioritized our choices something like this:
The first three were an attempt to up grade over matt Moore right away.
Guess what...Manning not only went to a team where he had relationships, but one that was willing to overpay to the point we couldn't play in that game.
Same is true with RG3...it would have cost us AT LEAST FOUR 1st round picks to get him, and that's assuming Washington didn't raise their bid.
Flynn...we'll we clearly didn't think he was the answer as an upgrade over moore.
All those ships have sailed. Now we have to move on to the next option which is to draft and develop or own guy. That means we need a veteran QB to compete with or back up Moore. And whomever we draft slots into the 3rd QB spot.
Why not Gerrard for 1 year? He's cheap, experienced in the west coast offense and was very productive at Jax.
As for the Barkely thing...that's absurd.
If we were playing for Barkley we'd be dumping every good player on our roster.
This roster as it exists now, even without the draft, isn't a 1 or 2 win team. And if you don't have the 1st or 2nd pick you have no shot at barkley.
