No doubt...symbiotic relationship. I'm warming up to the move and genuinely hopeful it works out well. Most of Grier's moves for veteran players in recent history have worked out well, so I should probably give some well-earned benefit of any doubt.

While I do have concerns about his injury history and the fact that he's in the last 1/2 season of his contract (though I hear a new contract is apparently being worked on), my actual concern is probably more philosophical in terms of how to utilize limited resources. When our secondary is playing as it ought to be in our system that depends so heavily upon that, our DL and edge rushers are mu

Here's to hoping I'm wrong and he ends up staying healthy and productive and staying with us (and healthy and productive) for years.

McD said something in his presser (not going to quote cuz I don't have time to track it down to be precise) that indicated he felt we might have been somehow targeted with those calls. Also, during the broadcast, several times it seemed that the announcers wondered what the call could be...typically if it's offsides, they're calling it pre-snap cuz it's so obvious. If the calls were bad, I hope

I have a little bit of grace for the penalties on the offense that seem to be related to how different and complex our offense is with all the shifts and motion, etc. When I say a little bit, I really mean just a little bit and not for much longer. However, the pre-snap penalties on the D - where we retained all our personnel and the DC and system...yeah, those are absolutely unacceptable.

He's played 16 games just once...his rookie year, when he had his high in sacks (12). Since then, he's topped out at 7.5 sacks when he played 14 games in 2020, and many fewer in 2019 and 2021 when he played far fewer games. I've heard the Broncos have an offer that includes a 1st rounder. Hoping it's not us, if Roquan Smith can be had for a 2nd & 5th rounder. Feels like it would be over

Not to take anything away from Tua playing his part but the offensive design + speed and twitch of our 2 starting WR are HUGE difference makers. So awesome to see design + playcalling + QB/receiver execution come together. It's a different offense when Tua's processing quickly and throwing accurately and Armstead is giving just that extra bit of protected time.

I agree that the DL isn't getting near the pressure they should, no matter who's playing behind them. But, having our top DBs is designed to give them the extra 1/2 second every play to get to the qb. And, there's less need to have both safeties playing back and not blitzing. Sometimes a blitzing safety is picked up and enables a DL to get there. I think they're significantly impacted by our

McDaniel outsmarted himself on the 4th down call for sure. And our final 3rd down play on offense was dumb as well. PIT out of timeouts, run the ball and take time off the clock. Or, if throwing you've gotta have a play or two that are sure-fire easy, safe completions. We gifted them 35+ seconds. A better team would have taken advantage of it. Our 4th consecutive game with a different sta

Was telling my son today before the game that if Kuch were in the HoF as he should be, our starting offense had more hall of famers than not in those days. I wasn't quite alive, having been born in 74...the year of our last SB win after the '73 season. Perhaps I'm the jinx...man, I hope not!

It's hard to separate his performance on Sunday from the circumstance, in my opinion. We were already adjusting from Tua to Teddy, so to make the further adjustment abruptly probably put the whole offense in a relatively bad position for the game. I'm sure the Jets knew and took advantage of the fact that he's had so little experience that it takes a bit longer for him to process and trust wh

Our entire defensive approach is basically predicated on having 2 CB who can effectively live on an island. They're both good at it, but X is leaps and bounds better than Jones. Jones does his job well. X changes games. When they're doing their thing, Holland can roam more freely on the back end...Brandon Jones can blitz and run support more often...edge guys have that extra 1/2 second to g

I'm trying to figure out how much of what we're seeing is: - injuries - bad luck type stuff - gotta get our $hit together irrespective of the top 2 items - talent To be honest, I listed them in the order of impact I think they are as I'm thinking of them in this moment. Given what we saw was possible in the first 3 games (albeit, I would say we never played our best full game in any o

Basically starting 3rd string QB without the week of anticipating he'll start...top 2 CB out...elite LT out. The 3rd string coming off the bench part largely negates our huge advantage at wideout. With that much of our best talent out or largely neutralized, we'd have to play our best ball to beat any NFL team. Have obviously crumbled here at the end, but I've actually been fairly impressed

Looks like he's going to play in spite of back & ankle injuries. Tonight would be a great night for the OL to protect like crazy and the run game to get going. Get to our mini-bye and a chance for some of the injuries across the team to heal.

Based upon the small handful of plays that Teddy played on Sunday, I was mistaken in my perception that we had a strong backup who wouldn't lose us games in the event Tua couldn't play. I was astounded at how awful he looked. If we end up having to start him instead of Tua, I'd have him on an awfully short leash and a quick trigger finger to Skylar.

Well, we're lucky to even have that kind of heat + humidity advantage in September games but it definitely won't be any help in Buffalo late in the year. I'm definitely all for the kind of ass-chewing that transcends weather :-). Cuz they definitely need to play better on D. Their offense mainly dictated the terms to our defense in their 2:1 time of possession advantage, and that's not the p

Totally agree with the tackling bit - for sure there's a huge noticeable difference between Buffalo form tackling us nearly every play and us allowing hidden yards by piss poor tackling or being juked on every dang QB run. Plenty of blame to go around, but Phillips specifically has to get his $hit together. I thought he would be a key part of why this year's D could match or exceed last year's

We are finding ways to win against quality opponents, which is hugely encouraging. The bills took the lead 3x, and we kept coming back. Hill didn't have a huge day...nor Gisecki...nor any of our running backs or Tua. But we avoided big mistakes, stayed in the game and took advantage of a couple of opportunities. While Allen threw for 400 and they had a big long run to rush for over 100, I t

Dude - no doubt on the refs. We were playing 11-on-12. Even the announcers were scratching their heads on calls against us several times. I hated it while it was happening, of course...but adds to the special-ness of the win. Even that didn't become the reason/excuse.

Lots of individual things to love about the game, but the main thing for me is being able to overcome a massive deficit against a quality team playing some of its best ball. It's been interesting for me to think of making the playoffs last year if we hadn't: - lost to the Raiders on the no-call pass interference - lost to both ATL & JAX on last second FG But I always knew we really neve

Having never played organized football (but my fair share of tackle w/o pads neighborhood football that today's kids parents wouldn't dream of letting their kids risk), I truly don't know if it's as easy as I imagine to simply recognize the situation, decide to throw it away and then throw it away. Maybe there's some sort of hard-wiring in the brain that just takes over and one can't see any opt

If you just looked at the stat line, Tua had a pretty good game - well above his average for yards. But, he had several completely boneheaded plays. One was an absolutely gift-wrapped INT and a couple others where he should have simply thrown it away to live for another play. The game could have been really ugly for him. This has been a consistent weakness in his game, and it's hard for me t

Though it was during preseason, I think this is significant. In the 1st half of last season, there was serious dysfunction and our defense especially didn't play anywhere near its capability. The offense being a hot mess was, in my opinion, a big reason the D underachieved. If nothing else, one can easily see that there is order and purpose on the offensive side of the ball from HC down. An

Would love to have insight into decision making around the timing of surgery. He's not X, but he's a great compliment to X and the rest of our defense and I consider it a very significant loss for the 4 weeks (hoping it's that few).

Agreed - if u put a gun to my head and said "you get to keep one or the other", I'd keep Sklar right now. For all the reasons you said + he's cheaper (I think we save $4.5M if we trade Teddy). But we have a situation where we have the option of keeping both, so would want the comp for Teddy to be attractive to give up on a valuable luxury.

For Bridgewater, it would all depend on what they could get in return. Though Thompson has looked really good and I don't think we should risk losing him, Teddy has proven ability to win regular season games for several years. I trust him WAY more than I did Brissett last year. I view last year's Broncos non-QB talent as probably about ours or perhaps slightly inferior, esp. on the defensive s

Agreed - I know with us keeping a FB, our 53 will already be stretched...but if it even looks like you might have hit on a pick at the QB position, you can't risk losing him. If I'm GM of at least 1/2 of the teams in the league, I'm hoping they don't protect him cuz I'll poach him and roll the dice with him as my 2nd stringer.
