My fear is that Ross is so desperate to have a 'glitzy name' that he will continue to play his cards too publicly. the problem with that is potential candidates will use Ross's verbal diahrea to leverage deals with other teams. I can see Cowher, Fisher, and Gruden each getting their names linked to Ross to drive up their asking price and eventually sign with Dallas ( who are sitting in the

I think he should have gone for it on all 4th and 1's. Like you said...we are out of the play-offs. If you can't take chances now? But....Lex Hilliard is NOT Losaka Polite. If they wanted to keep that play in the playbook and use it in the crunch? they shoulda kept Losaka. Sure Lex converted some of them...when teams were watching Thomas or Bush...but he isn't as good at that dive play as P

I couldn't watch the game Sunday, so I taped it and avoided all sports media Monday and watched it last night...then find out Tony is fired. well, I said IF they won convincingly he should stay...they didn't...some clear issues there, so this makes sense. The turnovers weren't on Tony...but...there were some decisions that cost us the game. We relied too heavily on the pass for a stretch

That is a really good point. Ross already said he wasn't going to talk to guys if he had a coach under contract....so the loss cleared the path. And made it easier. No point waiting and giving him a chance to muddy the waters again.

If you look at the Pats and Belicheat....he inherited a BIll Parcells built defence, with Bledsoe. Bledsoe got hurt and the back-up turned out to be pretty good ( sound familiar?) The diference is the Pats were able to get a 1st rounder for their injured starter. when you have a franchsie QB you can spend draft picks on supporting cast. Fewer gambles, deeper roster. Now you can trade vetera

Great summary Ken. Another point to consider is....Ross is perceive to be a douchebag around the league. Coaches did not like his handling of the Harbaugh thing. If Sparano has the lockerroom behind him...and wins......and gets fired? How will that impact Ross's ability to attract quality coaches and players?

If the teams wins out with convincing wins....the number of fans clamoring for Sparano's departure will be small. The majority of fans will be ambivelant...and the number of fans calling for Sparano to be kept will be larger and louder than all groups. If we keep Sparano and the team goes 3-0 all will be forgotten. The fans will all fall in line.

OK, So I have in the past advocated for hiring 1 of these guys. AND...if Sparano is eventually fired?...I can support it. BUT...looking at their records...guess what ...It supports the idea of keeping Sparano. Gruden as a coach Raiders 8-8, 8-8, gets a new QB..12-4, 10-6 Bucs 12-4, wins Superbowl, 7-9, 5-11, 11-5, 4-12, 9-7, 9-7 Cowher 11-5,9-7,12-4,11-5,10-6,11-5,7-9,6-10,9-7,1

Hmm. Ken said "JMO....so add me to the list too." You say..."no you haven't made up your mind." By that logic......welcome to the FPB's!!! Keep this in mind. Changing to a new coach means a new rebuild...new system...2-3 year investment. IF Sparano and the boys finish 7-9, 8-8.....then keeping Tony is a 1 year at a time investment. What is the bigger ris

How can you call Sparano a joke and be expected to be taken seriously? The guy has made a significant change in how things are done and it has resulted in the team developing a chemistry, and dominating opponents. If you come on and say " yes, but it is too little too late", I can respect that kind of logic. But when you come and spew hyperbolic generalizations its kind of hard to

Yea, I wanted Henne to be successful this year. He made strides...enough to stay in the starters spot....but not enough to make anyone think he was our future. Sparano was hurt by the lock-out, the fact that we didn't draft a QB to compete with Henne, and the fact that Ross started a 'countdown to rebuild' with his flight across America. Henne getting injured made it unlikely that we would

I think the 3 rushing TD's is an interesting stat. It either means that our Pass defense was so bad that teams didn't have to run. OR It means that our pass defense was so bad that teams didn't have to run. Seriously though...we have been winning games lately and not giving up points...so that stat is impressive in the last 5 weeks....but pretty damming for the Secondary for the f

Wow? Not sure what to sat to that. You're humour eludes me...as does any point you may have been trying to make. Thought we were talking about football? If Sparano wins out? He will have even more support than he has now. If he ends this run beating the Bills, Jets, and Pats...and they are solid balanced wins? It will be pretty interesting around here.

WE should draft a QB to solidify our position....but to say Moore is our achillies heel is not a valid statement by any stretch. I am not convinced he is a 'Superbowl QB', I am not convinced that he can continue to be this effective once Defense's get enough film on him. BUT...since Marino, Pennington is the only QB who played better than Moore is playing now. Moore is spreading the bal

The thing is that clutch situations put everyone in a squeeze and playmakers need to step up and make plays. IN our 0-7 losses...Henne got us into the red zone, plays were called that had guys in position to 'finish'...Henne missed on some open guys. Clutch QB's hit those MOST of the time. In those losses Brandon Marshall had opportunities to pull down a game changing ball in the endzone or

I think you are over-stating the role of the players. Tony listening to the veterans and making changes is not 'being over-ruled'. That is called 'listening' and 'considering' and 'adapting', Which has been 'effective'. Things change, people change. Bill Belicheck had a poor record as a HC in Cleveland. he learned something from it. Changed. Now he is a different coach. It goes the

What? let's lock up Moore for 7 years! just kidding. I think we could trade up with the Rams, Vikes, or Jags. Those teams have a young QB and are more than 1 player away. Even the Panthers could be a trade partner depending on who is on the board. Speculating on what we would have to give up is a bit difficult right now. But if the draft was today? Trading from 9 to 6th could be done

They may not 'get up'....but good teams don't lose to bad teams. And bad teams usually don't dominate anybody. We have been dominant in a couple games. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the games go.

Those are all really solid points. I would agree with your assessment over-all. But I would argue that the 'best' coaches were also 'lucky' coaches. truly great coaches like Don Shula and Bill Walsh are rare, and they were effective in a certain era. Bill Parcells was a hard ass who got lucky a couple times. Some of his best players he did not even want. Belicheck was lucky that a 6th

Thanks. I was not in favor of keeping him. Even last week, I felt sorry for him but felt he had too many flaws to overcome. But..we all learn from our mistakes...and sometimes we need others to step up and play/coach well enough that our flaws don't come in to play. If the QB hits the open guy in the Red Zone...then FG's aren't a Sparano flaw. If the OC uses the talent on the roster properl

Parcells left in Oct. 2010. Henning was his hire and was fired at the end of 2010. This is year 1 of Tony Sparano 'hold the Tuna' Irrespective of why it took so long to make changes...he has made them and he is getting more from these players than any of us expected. Things aren't perfect...but they are looking pretty good. And they are improving.

I do give him some slack. Would you say that Ross trying to hire Harbaugh, extending Ireland's contract but not Tony's is a 'non-factor'? It was pretty news worthy. I think most people would agree that it would have a negative effect on the team's performance. Having a new OC with a shortened off-season? Neutral? If you look at the teams that had a change at HC, OC, or QB they all struggled

yes, we do need to draft a QB..... BUT...the end goal has to be....the ability to beat the Bill, Jets, and Pats. If Sparano can take an 0-7 team and turn them around, and along with Daboll use Matt Moore to beat the teams in our division....then keeping him, and giving him some upgrades puts us in a great spot to make the play-offs. Start Moore, who is playing as well as you could hope

Tony Sparano is now 29-31. This is his first year completely out of Parcell's shadow. Bill Belicheck....as the Head Coach of the Cleveland Browns was 36-44 Bill's first season with the Pats was 5-11. Is it possible...that we already have a new coach? Maybe, Tony S. was working too hard to fit the pattern of the Parcell's tree, that he wasn't being the best Sparano? Maybe the 0-7 s

Maybe....we'll see. but Moore the last 4 weeks is playing better than Fiedler ever played. Moore doesn't have a 1,500 yd rusher forcing 8 in the box. How good could he be if he did?

I actually liked Jay Fiedler for what he was...a gritty talented athlete. The problem is that Dave Wannstache saw him as a franchise QB and passed over opportunities to upgrade. Wanny is the one I hate. I feel badly for Jay because all he did was play his journeyman best and Wanny kept him there years!

Jay Feilder had a top 5 defense keeping his ass in the game. And he had the league leading rusher in 2002. He had Lamar Thomas rushing for 1,000 yds, he had Ricky Williams. Jay Feidler was the cancerous mole under Dave Wannestedt's porn 'stache. I hate reading his name...and I hate typing it too. No comparison.
