I think our OC needs to re-think things. When we are in the middle of the field ( between the 30's) he is innovative, uses the wildcat. Once we get into the redzone or on important plays, it's like his butt puckers up and he is afraid. I have no problem with the plays we have and have run...I have a problem with which ones we run when it counts. On 3rd & 6? Pass or Wildcat. In the 3 min

I forgot about him. Absolutely. He is a playmaker. Can he play worse?

You are correct if they don't get a deal done. But; I think they will. If they don't get a deal done...then there is a real chance at a shake-up if the owners will spend some money.BUT if they are cheap? we're screwed.

Unfortunately teams don't often let these guys get away. LB salaries are low enough that a good one can be kept. Same with safety. I say focus Free Agent Money on WR and use the draft to get our LB and Safety.

In the off-season some of us ( myself included) felt that ILB was the 31 area to address. Last night illustrated why. Channing Crowder is fine against average QB's but gets lit up by the good ones. IMO, Crowder was a liability. Gibril Wilson is a journeyman who is not much better that what we had. I say switch Jason Allen back to safety and see if he is any worse. he might not be smart

Tough to argue against that. I wondered about our playbook as well.

I don't know PhinJim. I saw Penny throw the checkdown or the throw-away a couple times without any pressure. I think he is too cautious when it comes to going downfield. He wants to see a wide open guy as opposed to throwing it to a safe spot and challenging your WR to go get it. When your ball floats...that's dangerous. I like Chad...but he hasn't shown me anything that makes me think pl

Yeah I would agree with what you've said. Henne has mor epoise and I would be in favour of giving him a shot. And White did not get the prep to be a starter and is quite green. I think Henne has a nice deep ball as well. I figure in the next 5 weeks we will know Chad P.'s fate.

I agree that Crowder played better at WLB. I am not sure Ayodele has the bulk to play MLB. I would be willing to try. Channing Crowder plays WAY!!! TOO!!! Upright! Can he bend his legs?? drop his shoulders? OK, he made one great picture perfect tackle. And he gets low on a 1 on 1 tackle. But when he is in pursuit...he is too upright. there was a reason it took so long for them to offer

I came to the conclusion after the Baltimore game that Chad is a safe QB for a team that wants a winning record. He can accurately hit what the D gives up in the medium range, but is not consistent in hitting the deep ball. Because of this the running game has to be dominant enough to open up the passing game. No dominant run game equals dink & dunk passing game. A QB that can hit the

Well, obviousily, since he hasn't hit any deep passes yet, IF he connects on 2-3 deep ones in the near future that would be an indication that he has improved/adjusted to NFL speed. If a highly mobile QB is able to connect on a deep pass enough times to make D's realize it isn't 'luck', then they will have to account for both his running and passing. Chad P is NOT the future. The sooner we

can't really disagree with those points. Penny did get us down field. BUt at some point...he needs to air it out. Even if only to scare the Defense. I am sure that Pat White/Ginn play will have OC's on our schedule spending some time prepping for that. In the wildcat...he offers something explosive. When was the last time anyone used that word with Chad?

No, if you go way back to last January you will see that I felt he lost us that very important game. I like Chad. he is accurate, and safe, and the perfect QB to help turn a 1-15 team into a competitive team. BUT...if you are looking to become a legitimate play-off team? Chad is not the guy. he doesn't throw long consistently. he protects the ball well; but, at time ( yesterday) when the team'

I agree. I am not clamoring for Henne yet. I didn't see enough. And Pat White, while intriguing in the 'potential' doesn't look anywhere near the point of being a starter. he does have a cannon for an arm though. If he connects on 2-3 deep passes this season? Start him.

Agreed. It was worth the risk. I worked to some extent. I didn't like having White run behind Ronnie as a lead block. You gotta let him find his own spot. Let him run the Wildcat where he chooses what to do based on what he sees not what the OC calls before the Defence lines up.

We need to run Right more than Left. We need to run Ricky more than Ronnie. IMO, Ricky is playing with a quicker burst and will get more. Also. Ronnie always plays better when he loses playing time to someone else. Brian Hartline needs to get more PT.

I am resetting the discussion on a new thread because I don't care about baseball. Anyway, yesterday there were times where Chad had no time to setup let alone throw. That is a true statement. That said; however, there were also plays where the OL held up fine and provided time and Chad threw a dink & dunk pass. ON one play he threw it into the ground with no-one near him. Maybe guys w

I read that at today's practice Hilliard was practicing at FB. So Sparano must be going insane too. You have to weigh flexibility. Polite is a guaranteed 1-2 yards on 3rd and short and 4th and short. I love him. They loved him at first too. They started throwing him the ball, but he ran with his shoulders away from the QB, adjusted slowly, and missed some opportunities. But they sti

The faster speed does nothing on the early part of the trajectory, but as the ball gets further in to the trajectory it slows down at the top and regains speed as it descends. As faster spinning ball extends the arc as the ball experiences less drag throughout trajectory, and in particular it maintains a better spin through the descent; therefore it gains more speed than a slower spinning ball, a

I have been coaching Senior High School Football for 20 years. The size of the hand, the grip, and speed of the spiral ALL MAKE A DIFFERENCE. The reason a 'rifle' has more distance and accuracy than 'shot' guns ( even when firing a solid slug) or the older musket, is that a rifle spirals the bullet, which has the effect of cutting through the air and decreasing the drag. A high arc will

Pennington's reputation is well established. The fact that the ball travells 50 yards is irrelevant. My dad is 72 and can still heave it 50 yards. There are several issues that impact the deep ball. When a QB throws a ball, he sends it on a certain trajectory, and spirals the ball. The speed of the spiral impacts how long the ball maintains its speed and that trajectory. The 'tighter'

I don't think we can slide Turner or London onto the practice squad. What about releasing Polite? he is only 5 lbs heavier than Hilliard. Lex is a beast, if he can catch and block, it might be the option that provides the most upside. Haven't we put a TE in the backfield as a blocker? I like Hilliard too.

Chambers was wasted on Feidler for so long. He is 4th on the all-time Dolphins list for WR's in many categories...He would have loved to play with Pennington; long ball notwithstanding.

The thread was never about Pennington OR Henne...it was that Miami hasn't had a QB who could throw an accurate deep ball since Marino left, and how that has impacted the WR's. Start your own thread about Penny Vs. Henne. Don't make this one about that...since neither has demonstrated anything to contradict my premise.

If Pennington was our QB 5-7 years ago when Zach and JT were still dominating, and our secondary was stifling, and we had a decent running game? And we had Chambers and Welker and a Tight End????? We would have made it to a Superbowl. We don't have that defense anymore, so we need more from our QB.

I never wished for anything. Pennington doesn't have an accurate deep ball. Henne has a stronger arm...but ..he isn't ready. How is that wishing for Henne? Or hating on Penny? I didn't make up that 'rumour'...People have called him noodle arm back when he was with the Jets. They don't say that about Favre. It isn't about distance, it is about accuracy and velocity over distance. Go watch
