Look McFagels is my first choice, but Nolan is like "no dice", so next choice Childress, and if we can't get him, then whoever the bum of the week is I guess, then if we hire the bum pick he should at least lead us to some more high draft picks!!!
Considering Thigpen can run the west coast, Marshall can do anything, same for Bess, and Hartline is the smartest wr who picksup EALLY WELL, hell I don't know what the gripe is about a west coast offense, if the majority of our players can do it.
We are drafting some 0-lineman and a rb or two, Sheetz still on team.
Thigpen had success when they scrapped the offense and ran the spread so he didn't have to make all the reads. Not exactly a ringing endorsement for running the complicated west coast offense.
and if Nolan has a problem with McDaniels...too friggin bad. They don't have to work together that closely anyway.
He can get his payback by trying to dominate the offense in practice which will only make them better.
It would be great competition. Look at Ditka and Buddy Ryan. They hated each other but built one of the most dominant teams of all time.
McD has the offensive track record....Brady, Cassel and Orton have all had their best years under McD. I don't like the smug bastard but I will get over it if he fields a decent offense. Besides he can't be a smug as only the OC and not top dog in charge.
It shouldn't be that big of an issue between Nolan and McD since McD will have no power over Nolan.....I forgot about the Marshall problem. Probably will never happen anyway.
No. Nolan has to stay but big name coordinators don't stay for long anyway. He may not get a NFL HC job anytime soon but he will be getting offers for NCAA HC.
I think Thigpen could run the West Coast offence . He played as good as Henne with "no reps at all". Compared to Henne with all the reps and 25+ starts.
He was lousy when he wasn't working with Andy Reid. He runs the WCO. He did a terrible job developing Tarvaris Jackson. His one really good year of offensive production in Minnesota came with guys like Favre, Harvin, Rice, and Adrian Peterson, some of the most explosive talent in the NFL.
The guy's shown absolutely nothing other than the ability to be Andy Reid's assisant.

Well, it's not like we're hiring him as HC. He may be fine as OC. Cam Cameron was a complete disaster as a HC, but wouldn't we all LOVE to have him as OC right now! It wasn't Childress's direct responsibility to develop Tavaris Jackson. That, really, goes to the QB coach, and, honestly, the owner's love affair with Bret Favre put that development on hold.
The fact is that we know nothing about how any of the candidates mentioned will turn out. Childress has a track record and would be the smart choice out of the group but to belittle the other guys with comments such as; he's just a TE coach and he has not proven himself is bullshi**.
Just because a coach has not done an OC's or a HC's job in the past is NO incicator that he'll fail at the job. It might make us fans a bit more comfortable but if whether or not they have any experience is the barometer for sucess then no one would ever get the job...the league would soldier on with the same 32 guys until they retired or died and then no one would be able to step up.
The problem with our players and the WCO is this; Marshall can't get open quickly, and we have no speed at the position. We'd need at least one player with serious speed to add to the group...Bess is the best suited to play the system (of our current players) because of his quickness...but again speed is an issue, and the rest of our WR's are a mystery.
Polite isn't versatile enough...maybe Hilliard could be used as a FB in the WCO...
O-Line...Most of our players are not athletic enough for this system...we'd have to employ a lot more pulling gurads and stuff...
QB, We don't know what we have here. I think Henne and Thigpen could be effective in the WCO but much as in our current situation, I'd add another player...It'd be through the draft and that player would have to beat out Henne and Thigpen to get the starters job. I'd stay away from FA quarterbacks because the compensation would be too high...Kolb or Hasselbeck are the only ones I'd consider. Young although talented, is too much of a head case IMHO...some may think he's worth the risk, I'm not so sure.
RB, Brown should stay if we employ the WCO but a rookie with moves and speed would HAVE to be drafted.
TE, We'd HAVE to find one.

Marshall doesn't get open the way Rice used to, but because of his size and strength he's, essentially, ALWAYS open. If the QB and Marshall could get in-sync, he could be a very effective possession receiver in the WCO.
Hilliard is a very good option at FB. Polite's role has diminished to short-yardage-specialist. That's pretty much it. I'd still keep him if we could, but Hilliard should be the starting FB.
On O-Line, Long is definitely athletic enough to play the WCO. Carey would need to lose weight. We'd still need athletic guards, but we need to replace those guys anyway!
TE, Yes. We need to find one...but, just as above, we need to find one anyway, regardless of whether we play the WCO or not.

IF we want to get more exciting on offense, we need to bite-the-bullet at some point. BIG Ball isn't going to get us anywhere. It isn't what Ross wants. I think, if we get one more speed guy, our receiving corp could stay relatively intact. We STILL need (WC or not) new RBs, a new receiving TE, new Guards, and, possibly, a new QB. So, I don't see an issue with converting to the WC at this time. Seems to be the best time in recent history.

No, but he wasn't the OC there, he was the HC. His boss was in love with Brett Favre and Brett is NOT a WC QB. It's not like Childress had much of a choice.
Let's say he brings in Childress, and he has Nolan. When they mind-meld what's Tony's role? Is he the official play count counter? The chunk yards calculator? The team statistician?

Tony's not a guru in anything at this point. His role will be to be the boss and let his coordinators do their job. He needs to work on his clock management. He's pretty good at motivational speeches. I'm not saying he's a lame duck coach but....ok...yes...he probably WILL BE a lame duck coach next season.

Bro, what are you talking about?
Childress called the plays. Did you not know that?!?

Yum. Sounds like a winning combination.
I wonder if his “shtick” will get any traction next year? The players talk, and they talk around the league, and with all the hits Sparano has taken through this I think his credibility is seriously in question. He’d be better off bringing in a motivational consultant (Tony Robbins?) IMO.
The team could gather ‘round the 60-inch LCD and listen to Robbins for 10minutes before practice and 5minutes before games. Tony would be off in his office organizing his database of stats and such.

The Vikes would deduct whatever it is, presumably.

That's it? Probably could do better.
I guess you could film the experience, or write about it, create a website.
