I believe he is an offensive genius. Yes, he failed as a HC, but so did Mike Nolan.
Also, I thought Childress was a straight up West Coast offense guy, but, that is far from the truth.
He was the offensive coordinator under Barry Alvarez at Wisconsin from 1994-1998, until being hired by the Eagles. He is a QB guy. He was the QB coach at Wisconsin before taking over as the OC and he was the QB coach at Philly before taking over as the OC.
That alone proves to me that he has diversity, and is an offensive genius. He can run a power offense or a West Coast, or probably a mixture.
He should be the hire.

"Childress is owed $3 million the next two seasons by Minnesota. If he accepts a job with another team, whatever he is paid will be subtracted from what the Vikings owe him."
I think this might be the sticking point for him going anywhere, unless Ross wants to give about 2 mil a year to make it worth his while. I'd back this move if he came though considering some of the other names being bounced around.
Hmmmm? I'm a little surprised that the Dolphins are considering Brad Childress following his firing as HC from the Vikings. However, when you look at his overall credentials as a football coach, he has the experience to become a good OC for the Sparano. Maybe he is the right guy.
I don't blame Childress for the difficulties he's faced with Bret Favre. Favre, despite his age remains a juvenile between the ears and because of his success is a prima donna. His on field and off field antics demean his record breaking stats. He should of called it quits when things peaked for him.
no no no no no no no no no Jesus this isn't even remotely a good idea. The man had AP and did absolutely nothing. Jesus its gonna be one of those seasons again...

What are you retarded? Blind, have another medical issue?
Did nothing with AP hmmm. Well last year they where one INT away from the SB.
IF not for the fact that Minn had a HOST of injuries, and Bret Favre lumming over them, in a TUFF division, they would be, and still are a solid team, that only really needs a QB, and some O-line.
Lol Childress is a solid OC, who have had some productive offense's.
Maybe he just isnt cut out to be a HC, and when he is again a OC again.
He will prob shine some more.
To suggest that he suck's as a OC, mean's you know two thing's about this man's credintial's.
Jack, and S.it and Jack left town Lewis.
He is a HECK of ALOT better than the other dochbag's mentioned. Some no name TE coach's.
The only thing I would ask (and I should probably start another post about this question) is our team set up personnel wise to run a West coast offense? Would this hurt/help Henne, or would this be a sign of McNabb/Kolb coming in? O-line?, RB's/WR's? Or is he not really married to the West coast offense?
Chilly can bring some creditability to the offensive side of the ball, and he's been successful in the past with less than stellar pieces to play with. You guys are simply using this season as a measure of the guys ability, which isn't how you evaluate someone's ability to coach an offense.
I am not against it, I would like to see all the candidates, and then decide though. CHildress, is a QB guy, and as others mentioned runs a hybrid west coast style offense... I think Childress would find ways to get guys open better the Henning was able to do. The lack of using Peterson I think had alot more to do with Farve, and him being paid 20 million last year...
I defintely think Childress signing would be a likely indicator of drafting and or signing a FA QB.
It will be interesting to see what happens because Childress has been a "west coast offense" guy for the last 10+ years, and Parcells is firmly rooted in the traditional Paul Brown power running/play action pass offense. And Parcells has always been a critic of the west coast offense.
Of course, the west coast offense was developed by Bill Walsh while he was under Paul Brown. So, there are similarities between the two systems, and the change to it may not be as much of a shock to the players as you might think.
And, while at Michigan, Chad Henne was the QB in a slightly modified version of the west coast offense, run by Scot Loeffler. Loeffler ran west coast routes, but with 5 and 7 step drops instead of the typical 3 and 5.
And since most west coast action happens within 5-15 yards from scrimmage, Marshall and Bess are good fits.
I was wrong in my earlier post, he's owed 3 mil a year for the next 2 years not 3 total, good luck convincing him to come here and basically make nothing.

He's been running a west coast offense since 1999. He's never been a part of anything else at the NFL level. And he comes from the Bill Walsh coaching tree, via the Andy Reid/Mike Holmgren connection. You'd pay a guy like him to run the offense he knows, not one he's never run.
Read the comments on the espn article. Hundreds and not one positive c and these are from minn fans and Philly fans and those who know this guy way better than us. I am very wary.

The truth of the matter is he wont bring anything exciting to the table and im sorry but one game away from the superbowl is exactly that... he is not exciting but granted a lot better than a TE coach. Its another step towards mediocrity. And the whole last year argument is crap cuz Favre was playing lights out and this year when he played like crap where was the offense? nowhere... and guess what? Brett at his worst is a hell of a lot better than what we have and any RB we get wont be half of AP so do the math...
oh and since you wanna throw cheap shots, even tho theres no need to in a discussion, i can play that game, so no, I dont think I have any medical issues unless your mom gave me something I should be aware of.
Exactly BobT, unfortunatly for many on here, they won't get it untill you insult them, or just keep rnning fact's down there throat.
Lol he's not exciting. Lol ohhhhh good chuckle, yep lets get a guy from Dallas, who hasnt made a name for himself, besides the fact that everyone say's JASON GARRET'S BROTHER, riding the coat tail's of his brother's legacy!! Yeah that is credintial's!!!!!
Whoever we hire needs to have a PROVEN NFL track record of developing QB's.
Hiring a guy who can ONLY run a west coast offense doesn't seem to be a good fit because of the time it takes to learn the system. Sometime it is up to 3 years for a QB to be fully comfortable in the west coast offense. Sparano does not have that long of a leash.
I don't know if Chilly has the ability to run another offense effectively but that should be a deciding factor.
