Where you fall down on this issue basically depends on your regard for animals, who, as other living beings, have the right to be treated with dignity and not killed for "sport." Remember I said animals kill for fright or food so bringing up the cattle point means that went right over Stank's head.
But I think the more important point I, berk, and others have made that if you are the type of person that tortures animals, then it means that, probably from childhood you have been a sociopath.
A sociopath is far worse than a psychopath.
The difference is quite simple.
A psychopath does not share our sense of reality but he does share our values. A psychopath might kill a teacher in the sincere belief that this teacher is the head of the advance guard of aliens sent here from another planet to kill us all.
If we were to agree with his reality, we probably would not have any problems with his actions.
Psycopaths are sick and we don't punish them, we try to treat them and keep them separated from society until they are cured, if possible.
A sociopath is the mirror opposite, however. A sociopath shares our sense of reality but not our values. A sociopath desires to have sex with a woman but does not want to go to jail so he rapes and kills her because he values his freedom (or odds of not getting caught) more than he values the life of this innocent girl.
We DO punish sociopath because we punish a difference in value systems a million times a day. A shoplifter values his desire for the property more than he values the storeowner's right to make a profit.
And YES, we are entitled to look DOWN OUR NOSES at someone who would torture a helpless animal for sport.
But the more important thing is that if a person "piles on" like that on a helpless animal, the odds are that he regards human life (except his own) just as cheaply.
As far as how do I "know" Michael Vick is unrepentant? The "swagger" with which he walked through the basketball arena and the smirk (not smile but smirk) on his face as the crowd cheered him.
To me those people cheering him just have no idea of the analysis above.

DR. Do Little, since when are you an expert? Mike Vick walks with a swagger, cause he's Mike Vick!!!! I bet if he stood infront of you, you'd be the first to ask for his autograph... don't you have someone to prosecute right now instead of wasting time on this site? That's where our tax-payers money is going? You should be incarcerrated for taking the peoples money....
You know we get along real good, and I always respect your opinion, just as I do on this subject as well.
But, to call a sociopathe better than a psychopathe is a little crazy (No pun intended), in my opinion.
A sociopathe and psychopathe are *BOTH* dangerous to society, and yes, they are different, but, they are equally volitale and are both a real threat to society, one is not better than the other. They are equally bad.

RESPONSE: I missed your post but I want to assure you that you don't have to reiterate your manhood to me over and over again. Don't worry. We don't think you're gay just because you have to reiterate your manhood over and over again and try to prove to us you're not gay.
We don't think you're gay, we don't think you're gay, we don't think you're gay.
He's Michael Vick man, of course he has swagger. Is he supposed to go see a basketball game with his head down? Is he supposed to never leave his house and not have a life? He's a star QB in the NFL of course he has swagger.
Maybe he should lend some of that swagger to Henne, it might help in his development LOL
Unbelievable the stuff you guys come up with, since when does swagger make you a liar or not sorry for what he did. Harry Potter here says Vick has swagger that's why he's not sorry LOL incredible
We lock em both up, A & O. But one is in a hospital and the other is locked up in a jail. That tells you how society looks at each. One is regarding as needing help and the other is regarded as morally bad. That was my point.
yes I would take lewis and stallworth on the team. yes that makes me a hypocrite or worse in your eyes, probably, A&O, but for the reasons I explained above, I think Vick is a worse person. Lewis was acquitted, after all, so I guess he didn't do it?

Why the swagger comment? Because if one were to have done such a cruel crime, went to prison, only to get out, receive another chance at the NFL, started playing well and walked through a basketball arena to the cheers of the crowd, then one just might think "Either I've got these clowns fooled or they just don't care about those damned dogs."
And didn't I also say "smirk?" I noticed you both seized onto the swagger but said nothing about the smirk.
Hey, if you care more about watching a sport than the character of the person playing the sport, then well, that's where you place your value.
well BigNasty you're just wrong about that. those dogs who were rescued from Vick's little house of horrors are now living like normal, loving family dogs, some are even in people's homes.
Mike Vick, I never really cared about the guy until this year and he is one helluva qb. Would I want him on Phins hell yes. He is a former dog abuser yes and so are a lot of racing dog owners in Fl. Personally I always thought Ben Roethilsburger was a bigger scum bag but he gets a free ride. Vick was prosecuted, jailed, served his time and worked hard for his current success. That's supposed to be Americana. Some lightweight gets his panties wet because the guy walks in an arena w/ what he calls a smirk on his face to many self rightous folks in this country nowadays.

RESPONSE: Well the first post above was his "ladies" post. Then next came his other post. I posted between the two. I checked at the time and I didn't see a prior post. But I was responding to the "ladies" post alone.

I only tried to reassure you that you did not have to come out with that "ladies" post to compensate for your gayness, MarshallburnsRevis. I'm glad you have enough confidence in your sexual identity to admit your gayness on this board. I applaud that.

OMG. Isn't that dangerous? I mean most civilized neighborhoods I know of have OUTLAWED pit bulls -- and it's not because they are overly "loving."
If one just happens to get a hold on your leg and starts crushing bone, what would you do -- pet it? Would you say, "now now my loving sweet pit bull, just relax those overly developed jaw muscles and lets chill?"
You see IMO anyone who owns a "dog" like that is a bit twisted.
pitbulls are danagerous because vick-types abuse them to the point that they will attack whatever is in front of them. you remove the abuse from the equation and you get a normal dog. as is proven by the rehabilitation of vick's own dogs.

And you have been there through the rehabilitation to make such a foolish comment? I am willing to bet next years draft you don't have b@lls to stand in front of one of those dogs? I can smell your sh*t from here just by you reading this....

Bro this is the NFL, football dude!! So let me guess, NFL fans watch games because of the character of the players on the team LOL get serious. It's entertainment, fans on Sundays care about their team winnning! They don't care if the players went to church in the morning or if they kissed their wives before leaving the house and whatever else you call character. Why don't you ask the Cowboy fans if they care that Dez Bryants mom was a prostitute or how many touchdowns he catches on Sundays? Character, give me a break, not in this league.
Smirk you say?
What the heck the guy can't smirk either? What else, he wasn't wearing the proper clothing either? He didn't comb his hair the proper way?
Is he supposed to walk with an orange jumpsuit and a sign that says I'm sorry for what I did? Come on dude, he served 2 years in jail, enough is enough with this guy.
