I think this goes back to what someone posted in another thread about talking to the police without an attorney.

I remember during the late 60's when Congress asked either Sec. State Rusk or Def. Sec. McNamara in to a committee hearing to discuss a relatively bland issue and the press commented "But he has to fear that a chit-chat about (x) might turn into an inquisition about Vietnam."

Same here. Even as a prosecutor, if I took on criminal defense as in my law school days, I would tell my client "There is no such thing as an innocent interrogation when it involves the death of someone you know. The only innocent interrogations are when you are standing on the street and you see an automobile accident involving two strangers and the police ask you what you saw."

I know you are in a 'catch-22' situation that people are gonna think, as some have wondered on this board, that you must be guilty of something if you refuse to talk to the police but that's what defense attorneys tell you to do....the competent ones at least.

The fact that the victim woman was connected to him is cause for suspicion even though he personally had an alibi reported that he could prove that put him miles away at the time of the shooting.

Interesting

Collins is represented by Priority Sports, the same agency that Dolphins vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum worked for before taking the job in Miami.

He is meeting with police today and expects to clear his name. We'll see.

Such a strange situation.

Assuming he is cleared, we should be in a solid position to sign him.

The contract will be the same from every team. We'll guarantee the whole thing. No state income tax. Chance to start day one. Same agency our vp worked for...

Police have also said he is not a suspect.

This has really cost him some $$$$$..

Last year Zach Martin (pick 16) received a 4 year, 9 mil deal with 4.8 mil signing bonus, Fully guaranteed contract.

Joel Bitonio signed a 4 year, $5,461,698 contract as a 2nd rounder, 2-3.

The NFL should make an exception (I know they can't) and let him sign a regular contract to the highest bidder (within reason) if he's cleared.

They should let him in the supplemental draft if he's cleared.

this was already requested prior to the draft and rejected by the NFL

We need this bad. Be like a free 1st round pick. A great player at our greatest area of need would completely cancel out the whole Dion Jordon debacle.

Here's the problem. It's already been reported online that there are pictures of Rex Ryan and Collins at a restaurant in Louisiana. While we are wasting time calling his agent, Rex flew down there and blew him.

See the difference between head coaches? Rex will be a huge thorn in our sides for yrs to come. Plilbin will ask permission to change the dumbfounded look on his face while Rex just goes after what he wants.

God I hope this kid prefers sun to snow..........

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

The most he can make is $435,000 in 2015, $525,000 in 2016, and $615,000 in 2017, unless they give him a new deal after two years.

He would be taxed 8.75% in Buffalo (on top of federal) or $38k. Nothing in Miami but federal taxes.

He could also earn as much as $375,000 in performance base pay in 2015 and pay out another $32k in NY or 0 in Miami.

While he will not be able to live as high off the hog in Miami on a salary like that, he can still rent a very nice place close to the water. He could buy a place but he will not receive much in the way of signing bonus because teams are only allotted a certain amount for all rookies and we just signed a bunch of UFA's.

He could start the season at LT in Miami (depending on Albert) and then slide inside to LG or he could possibly start at RT with James sliding inside to LG. He could take over for Albert in 3 years at LT if he can handle the spot. Some say yes, some say no. He has little competition at LG.

In Buffalo, they are set a LT with a young guy in Cordy Glenn (25), they are set at LG with Chris Williams who just signed a 4 year, 16 mil deal in 2014. They are set at RT with a 2014 draftee in Seantrel Henderson from Miami. And then he has to deal with Richie Incognito at RT (and in the locker room).

He is from a warm state (Louisiana) and was born in Baton Rouge.

It's not just Buffalo that Miami is competing against. It most likely is all 32 teams. With a little bit of luck he grew up as a Dolphins fan.

We also have recent LSU grads Anthony Johnson, Jarvis Landry and Kelvin Sheppard (who is actively recruiting him on Twitter) that might help sway him, with the money being equal, every little bit helps

we can offer him: (1) immediate starting job at G, and maybe even T depending on injury to BA; (2) no state tax (only FLA teams and I think TX teams can do that)---huge in a small contract which everyone can offer only the same $$; (3) many former college teammates; (4) an "in" with his agent as MT worked at the agency his agent is from before coming here; and (5) great city to live in.

Only thing we can't offer is "SB contender" this year but few teams can and except for maybe DAL none have a "no income tax" state

Unless he really wants to go somewhere like NE, DA, SEA, I think we sign him.

Agent for La'el Collins calling teams and notifying them who's out and who's in as they move to next phase of process..

Dont anyone at Dolphins headquarters answer the phones for the next 72 hours.......and for gods sake, lets all pray Collins doesn't read any of Omar's articles if he makes it in for a visit!

I hope this guy is innocent. Our o-line with him could rival the Dallas Cowboys.

LT Branden Albert
LG La'el Collins
C Mike Pouncey
RG Billy Turner
RT Ja'Wuan James

or

LT Branden Albert
LG Ja'Wuan James
C Mike Pouncey
RG Billy Turner
RT La'el Collins

Lamar Miller and Jay Ajayi running behind them! Sounds too good to be true/possible. 170-200 carries apiece.

Despite a previous report out of New Orleans that Philbin was on the trip, no team employees joined the players, according to a source.

@ArmandoSalguero

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin is not visiting La'el Collins in Baton Rouge or anywhere else. Neither are Mike Tannenbaum nor Dennis Hickey.
