I don't think we are in position to take a chance on this kid in the 2nd rd... We can't miss on this pick and there is just too much risk involved in drafting him... If he is still around in the 5th rd then maybe but not with our 2nd...

According to La'el Collins, you'd be throwing away that 5th round pick.
He said this afternoon that if he's not drafted tonight (3rd/4th rd) he will sit out this year and enter the 2016 draft.

I didn't know you could do that... If you don't like where you are drafted, you can sit out and re enter the draft the following year? I thought if a team drafts you, they own your rights? Either way with that comment I wouldn't touch him...

Also that is foolish, he is going to sit out a year with no football at all and thinks that will somehow make him more valuable the following year....

The difference between being a 5th round pick this year and the last pick in the first round next year is around $6M.
Since there is no guarantee he'll be good enough or healthy enough to get a big payday after that contract is over, it makes some sense to wait if you believe you will be vindicated in the legal issue and that you will be a first round pick next year.
I just don't think he will be a 1st rd pick next year if he sits out and is vindicated.. I think his best bet is to not get drafted and then sign a contract as a undrafted FA. That covers the team and has an upside if he is cleared and plays well... Or get drafted and then talk to the team about if he is cleared, and out plays his contract to get a new contract after a year or 2... I don't think he is in any position to be dictating terms to a team that is willing to draft him with his current situation...
If he is completely clear of what he is being questioned about, why wouldn't he have dealt with it earlier and cleared his name.. If he is innocent, he should have an alibi, and evidence to clear him easily..This happened a couple weeks ago, why didn't he deal with it earlier... Why would he allow himself to be in this position.... Seems very odd to me...

Also, if you enter a draft and are drafted you can just say no, and re-enter the following year with the team that drafted you having no rights... I am not so sure about that... Are you sure that is possible? Has it ever happened? From what I understand, going back to the USFL days, a team drafts a guy, they own the rights if the player wants to play in this league...

If you don't sign yo can go back in the draft and the team loses its pick.
Its the leverage that Eli Manning used to get San Diego to trade him to the Giants.

Wow that is crazy.... Has it ever happened? In the old days, like when Elway didn't want to sign, all he had was baseball to threaten the Colts with... When Kelly and Steve Young didn't sign, and went to USFL, the team that drafted them still held those rights years later when they went to the NFL.. They didn't get redrafted, the team that drafted them held their rights still, if they wanted to play in the NFL... So I am a bit confused about the difference, other then obviously different CBA's.. I guess they changed drafting rights at some point?

Mel Bratton picked by miami didn't get signed drafted by den next year. And of course most famous Bo Jackson taken one overall didn't sign w Tampa raiders took him mid rounds following year.
We better sign Collins as ufa if cleared. That would be incredible !

Here's the puzzling thing. He definitely says he has an alibi as being a considerable amount of miles away at time of the killing. The police don't seem to dispute that.
So what's left?
Has to be that they think it was a contract killing if they want to connect him to it.
He'd have to be a prime idiot to have contracted a killing because of a baby that there were probably just as good odds was fathered by another man than was sired by him. Duh!!! Ever heard of DNA tests, La'el?
But we've seen a lot of idiots lately from Aaron Hernandez to others.

isn't that what they've been saying since the beginning?

I think that the local were indicating that he can only get the same contract no matter where he signs as an UFA.
Same base and up to 50k in signing bonus, or something to that effect.
I think the best move for him if he wants to get paid might be to go play in Canada this summer and sign as a true free agent after the season is over...if that is possible.
