Merger of ncfishfan's recent threads about Philbin

The Cardinals have just as many injuries as us if not more. The Cards play in a tougher division and have a tougher schedule.

Yet they win and we lose because Arians knows how to motivate! Failbum knows how to demotivate.

Playoffs or bust for Failbum..hopefully Ross is looking at this example!

Todd Bowle's defense has not given up 21 points in a game yet. The same Todd Bowles who was our interim HC several years ago who the team looked as if they were busting their a**e* playing for him.

Should we expect 30 more threads representing every NFL coach left who is better than Philbin?

I would say the Cardinals injury issues would be the exception not the rule. It just so happens their depth was better than ours and YES, Arians is a better coach.

I think he was just being sarcastic. It's his way of saying "after all, I only post it so you will respond and waste your time. I don't post them because I want to express my opinion."

I didn't see their loss to Denver, but Denver posted 41 that day.

Where there 3 defensive/Special teams TD's?

I always liked Bowles. Thought he and Kacy Rodgers were the two best coaches on that defense.

I posted after the Denver game that Philbin failed not getting the team there earlier to get used to altitude. We had extra days too! Our defense was gassed.

New England lost a tough one to Green Bay..rather than fly home, Belecheat flew Pats to San Diego for Sunday night's game. Now they won't have any time lag and will be focused!

This is a clear example of one coach putting team in position to lose and one in position to win!

This is why Philbin must go if we don't make playoffs!

It's all about experience. Comparing ANY new HC to Belichick is unfair. Might as well compare him to Shula.

Shouldn't we wait to see if the Pats win Sunday to declare this move good/bad on Bellicheats part? Gronk's been hanging with Bieber all week, maybe he'll be strung out on Ecstasy and Whippets and miss the game.

Comparing Philbin to great coaches is absolutely valid IMO. Shows how far he needs to go to be considered among the best. It says a lot to see Shula in his corner. Philbin cant be considered a good coach without postseason accomplishments.

That's all fine and dandy but Bellichick was 20-28 in his first 3 seasons as HC. Philbin is 22-22.

That doesn't comparison doesn't tell us much. When Belichick was in CLE most people felt he was the latest example of a guy best suited to be a coordinator vs a head coach.

Philbin will need to make his own mark in the postseason to be regarded highly. In December and January, coaching matters more and more. This is a perfect chance for Philbin to show us his capability relative to his peers. Beat Harbaugh at home and Belichick in Foxborough in meaningful games...THAT'S how you earn respect in this business.

Didn't they say that about Philbin too? Point being, he should get better.

No doubt about that. I'm rooting for him for many reasons. There was a time when I was sick of him and calling for his head but I'm trying to keep an open mind and see what happens.

FYI, All of the travel plans are made WAY in advance. And not solely decided on by the head coach.

But I like the effort made to bash your own head coach. Well done!

But I have a sneaking suspicion that the first has to do with absence of personnel and the second has to do with incompetence in crucial timeouts, recognizing talent in terms of putting rookies on the field or not, et cetera.

If there's a part of your car that's not working, you address that issue.

You don't close rank behind your carburetor and say, I shouldn't bash this.

If it was absence of personnel, it was Bill's fault as he was the GM and HC. His demise had more to do with getting the team to 11-5 and then dropping to 5-11 the next and final year. Had the owner had a little patience, who knows, maybe they build a dynasty there.

Bill Bellichick, Nick Saban, Jim Schwartz, Ozzie Newsome, Michael Lombardi, Jim Bates, Kirk Ferentz, Scott Pioli, Thomas Dimitroff and Mike Tannenbaum, Eric Mangini & Phil Savage were all on the staff!

Are you talking about Parcells? Use your turn signals, we were first talking about Bellicheat, so use last names when talking about two Bills in the same thread.

edited to add:

But if you are only talking about Bellicheat, he could not staff the coaching personnel and players on day one.

He'd have to ride with the people and players of the former regime for awhile and a complete overhaul to anyone's satisfaction would probably take at least two years.

Who said anything about Parcels? he was never in Cleveland. of course it was Bellichick.

Day one? He was there for 5 years. Everyone from the former regime was fired except for Lombardi, who Bellichick retained.

I dunno but somewhere I began to think about Parcells in connection with this post. Maybe it's because you constantly call him Bill and ON THIS CHATBOARD HE IS ONLY KNOWN AS BELLICHEAT hot smiley but the "Day one" thing was my point that everyone, even Philbin, is entitled to a little time before his record can truly be said to be reflective of his worth as a coach. That's why I've only criticized on field calls by Philbin and not our record.

But that time was only with respect to being hired and NOT being fired the next day.

That day has LONG passed.

A QB might ask for 4 years but if a coaching is making rookie mistakes the third year in terms of timeouts, playing talent, and game strategy, he's a waste.

The year or so break I gave him was said just to get him to bring in his own people.

No, but they will, and it will be by an embarassing score like 45-3

I refuse to compare Bellicheat and Shula. If Tom Brady retires and the Pats keep winning, maybe...the facts are: During their combined tenure at N.E., Bellicheats Patriots are 21-22 without the Lady and 136-39 WITH him (regular season). Not a TOTALLY accurate measure since you don't expect your backup QB to be great you say? ...Don Shula put together most of an undefeated season using one...
