carpenter has missed just 2 kicks this year. so we downgraded big time at the cost of a 5th round pick. nice one jeffy. he was a kicker so you'd think he could at least find those, but nope

The 2013 draft, where we had a lot of picks and needed to hit on 50%, is looking likely a big bust. A top 5 pick that is a situation player. 3-4 Other top picks that can't even get on the field. A 5th round kicker that is missing makeable FG.
No OL upgrade, WR, upgrade. Sims could be decent Sherman is just a knucklehead and doesn't use him

Yes, and for being overpaid, using up cap space. Now the same people are saying we shouldn't have let him go.
Doesn't matter what Carpenter did this year. He is playing for a 4-7 team and how many clutch kicks has he made this year? He lost his job for not producing...plain and simple. Sturgis could be next.
Yeah while Sturgis started strong, once he missed a big kick, he hasn't been the same since... Unacceptable to miss some of the kicks he has missed this year... Lets hope it is all just rookie jitters. Either way he will have competition for his job next year...

LOL. Except that he came back to beat US in one of those four games AND if I remember correctly after a miss by Sturgis.
Now, I agreed with the move to draft Sturgis and let Carpenter go but let's not get CARRIED AWAY with defending Philbin and Ireland.

Hindsight is perfect but based on the information we had at the time, it was a wise choice. had we kept Carp and he misses kicks again this year, you are calling for JP's head even louder for not cutting him.
Carpenter was making 2.7 million, Sturgis makes 500 grand and is a rookie.. Sturgis has fallen into a slump, but that pill is much easier to swallow when he makes the money he makes and is in his first year in the league... As well he has shown that he has a leg and can make big kicks... He just has to bring it all back together... If he can't we find someone else... But paying Carpenter that much money, when he already had time to get his act together, and lost us games, was not a good move either... Carpenter peaked and still missed kicks, Sturgis is yet to develop fully and most likely far from peaking...

You missed the part where I said IF we kept Carpenter AND
PHILBIN DID NOT DRAFT anyone. Ireland did. Legendary foot? Did he even have any touchbacks this week. He's terrible.
You should have moved back to DC and ran for office cause I have no idea what we are even arguing about at this point. Way to skirt and redirect as usual! LOL
Hindsight is 20:20. I don't think anybody on this board thought we should keep Carpenter after last season. Almost everyone on this board was giddy that we had Sturgis in the pre-season making Carpenter expendable. Carpenter did not have a very good preseason either if memory serves.

RESPONSE: I must have missed that part. I thought as usual you were defending Philbin STILL I very much doubt that Sturgis would have been drafted AT LEAST WITHOUT CONSULTATION WITH Philbin.

RESPONSE: He was known IN COLLEGE as having a great foot, and for field goals! That's when we drafted him, out of college that is.
You, on the other hand, are talking about what he has done lately and on kickoffs.

RESPONSE: No, I think you're getting lost in the discussion all on your own.
