It's time to talk Week One! vs. Cleveland Browns
Posted by: toko34 ()

My initial thoughts are that Cleveland has added significant skill to their roster and will not be a push over like most seasons. I think this will be a tough battle to win on enemy ground and the biggest edge we have is that our coaching staff seems lots better then theirs. I am thinking this will be something like a 20-17 game with Miami breaking a tie with a long Sturgis FG in the last seconds. Any one have any thoughts?

Tannihill will throw for 300 yds. Our defense will hold theirs to 67. 4 Cleveland turnovers. We win 41-3.

Then I will wake up and watch the game. drinking smiley

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Cleveland was the 10th worst defense (total yards) last year. Miami was 12th worst. The difference being Miami was 7th best in points allowed and Cleveland was ranked 19th.

The interesting matchup to watch in this game is Davone Bess vs Dimitri Patterson. DP played for Cleveland last year and DB played for Miami and they will be matched up against each other in the nickle defense when DP covers the slot. Davone's 8 yard slant and fall down shouldn't scare anyone.

Josh Gordan is out for the game due to suspension so the starting WR's will be Travis Benjamin and Greg Little with Bess in the slot. Benjamin looks like a dangerous return guy but still inexperinced in the passing game. There is a lot of talk surrounding the starting TE, Jordan Cameron. He had 226 yards and 1 td last year so the talk is more about wishful thinking. As a whole I would give the edge in the Browns passing game to our secondary.

I also think Miami holds the edge with our offense vs their defense. They are without their best weapon on offense and their #1 draft pick, Barkevious Mingo. They added a few pieces in Paul Kruger as a 3-4 pass rusher and Desmond Bryant at DE but it won't be enough IMO.

On paper this should be a blow-out with Miami winning 35-13 but the game isn't played on paper. I still predict a decisive victory by Miami.

The bad part is that Miami will travel to Cleveland, come home and then back to the same part of the country next week to face Indy (4 hour drive from Cleveland). It's still only a 3 hour flight.

I have a bad feeling about this game. Our O-Line is still figuring things out, and Cleveland has added a lot talent. Hate to say it, but I think we stumble out of the block:

Cleveland 17
Miami 13

I bet you if we had tebow as the starting qb we would go to the superbowl....And if The coaches saw the light and start matt moore we might go undefeated.

We can only speculate on which team will be better prepared for the first game. If my recollection is correct, the Dolphins haven't been able to win their opener in many years. The Browns are worse and have a terrible opening game record as they haven't won their opener this century.

The odds favor the Fins to win just on that alone. The Oline still has to play as a unit to allow Tannehill time to make his reads and hit his new WRs.

Maybe we can break the ice and win the first game of the year. Yes its been a long time since we won the first game.

It wasn't as long ago as I thought -- the Dolphins won the 2010 opener at Buffalo, 15-10. Before that, you have to go back to 2005 and Nick Saban's first game, a win over Denver.

Yes we started with wins against buffalo and minnessota but it went downhill after that.

This is a "must win" if that's even remotely possible for game #1.

But losing out of the box will really put this team in a difficult spot given the upcoming schedule.

My Opinion. Of course.

BNF.

Thats a fact. If we lose this game....its going to be a tough season. This game is one of the easiest games in this years schedule.

I know we gotta give every team their props but this game is one of the easiest IMO compared to teams like New England or Atlanta etc.

I'd love the Dolphins to win the opener--that's a step in the right direction--without a doubt. I fully concur with Samsam that "this game is one of the easiest games in this year's schedule." Because of it--as BNF said, this is a "must win." Go get 'em Dolphins!
thumbs up

There are no "gimmies" in the NFL anymore, especially on the road, but having said that, this is a game the we should win (if we don't it could be a long season).
Really hoping for a dominant showing from T-hill and the rest of the offense, if no other reason than to get everyones confidence up going into a much harder road game in Indy the following week. (it'd be nice to silence all the haters on this board alsodrinking smiley)

We have had a lot of trouble with Cleveland over the past few years considering they were all considered easy games. Nothing is a given.

I have this as a win on my schedule, even though I am forecasting a .500 finish. So, if we lose this one the Bourbon may come out early this year...spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

I don't think this will be an easy game at all. The Browns are much better than people think and are looking to take a big step in the standings this year. This will be a battle.

This isn't a "must win". There's no such thing at this point in the season.

But I can't imagine what this board will look like if we go there, lay an egg and get spanked.

couldnt agree with you more. Cleveland has been a perennial 6 win team. Granted since they play in the AFC north which is one of the stronger divisions they are not a soft 6 win team by any means. However they are not a playoff team which is what we are projected to be this year. MUST WIN!!! a loss and just like that we have no shot at winning the division.

This year is a very rich QB draft, rich I tell you! and if Tannehill is not the guys I say we need to draft one of these talented young kids (At least 4 will go in the first round). Even if Tannehill plays well I say we upgrade. Tannehill is a nice piece, above average at best but I would say atleast 3 of the QB's in this years crop are elite, maybe more...

This game will be a solid gauge to see if this team has truly improved, it's time to put up or we'll be in trouble out of the gate falling a game behind NE right from the start.

Joe Haden will shut down Mike Wallace. We're going to need other WR's to step up. I'm also interested to see how the carries are split between Thomas and Lamar. Especially because I took a 14th round flier on Thomas in my fantasy draft last night

“If you’re in man-to-man and you’re chasing him, it’s hard to catch up,” said Haden, “You just know any down he can take it. This’ll be the first receiver I feel is faster than me. I have to stay on top and make him come back to the ball.” Haden runs a 4.57 40 to MW's 4.33.

Wallace didn't do much in their last matchup but he also had Charlie Batch as his QB who threw for 3 ints.

Julian Posey was signed by the Browns this week. You can be sure he is providing what info he can about the Dolphins schemes.
