Can someone name a single 1st-round trade that we've EVER made that turned out good for us? Seems like whether we trade up or down, the net result hasn't ever been good.

I'm withholding judgement for 2 reasons: 1. I really don't want to be depressed this soon in the year. 2. I certainly do NOT want to go into the year feeling optimistic and have my bubble burst yet again! So, I'm neutral on all the moves at this point.

As good as Elway and Manning were, it was the Broncos' defenses that won their 3 Superbowls. Both of those guys lead high-octane offenses early in their careers but it's obvious what wins Superbowls.

This all started when we decided to switch to a 4-3 utilizing our existing roster (that was built for a 3-4). Jimmy Johnson implemented a 4-3, but he revamped our entire roster (most of the D-Line and all the LBers). Fact is these are 2 VERY different systems requiring different personnel. Thinking you can just plug-and-play between them is ludicrous. Throughout those 4 years we NEVER HAD

Panthers. There's something I really like about Newton and that team. I can't seem to pin it down. Regardless, I think it's destiny since their coach was on the '85 Bears.

So, the plan is to bring in a bunch of inexperienced coaches with the goal of propping up a mediocre QB and trying to make him great. If that's not a recipe for disaster, I don't know WHAT is.

In all the years since Shula, with all the bonehead coach hirings (Wanny, Cameron, Philbin), I never remember a coach hiring that most of us weren't optimistic about. You can't even explain this away. This is a bad hiring...plain and simple. Unless this guy comes out and gets us to the playoffs next year, I think he's going to be DOA as a coach.
