I just don't think his resume or reputation are good enough to include a first round pick in the trade. I wonder if a 3rd or maybe a 4th and 6th could do it.

Don't forget the Rooney Rule. I don't think Ross can simply offer a job to Cowher (my choice) or Gruden without going through a formal process and several interviews.

Orton is an interesting possibility, especially when compared with some of the other suggestions that have been posted on this board. He has been reasonably productive on a lousy team. However, given the situation in Denver and the fact that Orton has lost his job; I would think we could get him for much less.

I can't vote for either option. I would vote for an option that includes building a balanced team, including a good QB, without having to give up multiple draft picks to get the QB. Of all the QBs being mentioned over and over (Peyton, Brady, Ben, etc), most/all of them were acquired in the draft without the drafting team trading up to get them. The exception is the Giants, who traded up for E

There has been a lot of talk out of Cincinnati that Palmer could get cut for 2 reasons. 1. He is getting worse every year. Take out the injury year in 2008 (in which his QB rating was sub 70), and his QB rating has dropped every year since 2005. His current rating of 78.1 is barely better than Henne's 76.5. He is also older and more fragile. 2. His salaries for the next few years are h

Yes, catch the ball. And stop the ridiculous, childish penalties.

Gannon was great from ages 33 to 37 (or thereabouts). Not many guys become stars after 10 years of mediocrity and bouncing around the league.

Drafting in the top 10 is not the same as finishing in the bottom 10. The Pats drafted Mayo at #10 the year after going 16-0. If you are able to work the draft like the Pats do, and get multiple first round picks at will, then drafting in the top 10 is great. If you have to really stink as a team to draft in the top 10 it is not so great. The Ravens are an enigma. They have the reputation

"Further evidence that sometimes having a bad year or two is a GOOD thing in the long run." That's speculation really. Speculating that things would have gone much better for the Phins and Shula later if they started out much worse earlier in the Olivadotti tenure. There's not really any way to provide evidence to support that. Edit - I am not defending Olivadotti. He was real

I think if we were to finish 6-10 this year after the history of this team over the past 10 years, it would have a definite impact on how we are viewed by free agents we may want to sign. Just imagine a 6-10 finish and the ensuing discussions about whether or not Miami has to start over yet again with a new GM and coach. Yuck. Who would want to come here?

I agree. Also, good players want to play for good teams. So winning can help retain good players that want to win. It can also help attract new players. If you are a star FA that gets a similar offer from 2 teams, do you go to the 6-10 team or the 10-6 team? Obviously, there are lots of factors to consider, but that has to be one of them.

I don't think it is a "whatever happens, happens" approach. I think building a SB winner requires a series of steps. I think we have made enough positive steps that taking a step back this year is not required. Curious - if you like Henne at QB, what position would you want to address with a top 10 pick?

The question to me is not rather a team would prefer to pick 5th, 10th, 15th or 20th? Of course you would expect to have a higher hit rate when you pick higher in the draft. However, if you are picking higher than you also have to realize that your team has further to go in order to be competitive. A 5 win team is usually years from winning a SB. A 10 win team may only be 1 year away.
