This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
You're really not going to stop until every Dolphins fan on this board retreats into a dark room in their house with a bottle of scotch and a gun before the preseason is even over.
Ha! Thats awesome. Peter Green is one of the Best Blues Guitar players to ever walk the Planet. I'm listening to him as we speak. had him on the Brain.
Panteraize......thats a very uncool statement. I say that because as an Ex Cop I have seen more then my share of Men leave this earth that exact way.
I just keep pointing out the obvious because It was all so apparent to me before the draft , during the draft , and now , 4 months later. I want it on everyones mind as meatball saprano gives Chad henne the ball on starting day and our offense sputters.
What pisses me off the most is not that we have arguably the worst Starting QB in the NFL. Its that No one will do anything about it. One of the Richest QB drafts ever , and the Pats who own 3 championships and the BEST NFL QB take mallet. Us who have no QB. have not had one for over a decade. and we Pick a RB , correction, we MOVE UP to pick a RB , despite having so many options available in free agency.
I want it clear and on everyones mind so there are no petty B.S. excuses.
Its one thing if Tony wants him to succeed but gave him competition and a warning. But stating he is the starter no matter what kinda pisses me off. Sorry , it does.

Yeah that's what I was doing, trivializing the national scourge of suicide
Why do you take everything I say So personal? Just expressing how your statement affected me is all. Never said you were doing anything on purpose or had an agenda. You really need to lighten up a bit Brother.

Peter King makes way more sense then Peter Green

I am going to take logical route gander at this, and prove how Peter King, one of the most respected sportswriters and column's in MMQB is wrong with his assumptions. If I can make you all realize he is wrong does that mean I deserve his job at SI..lol.. well here I go.....
First off Mallett isnt going to get a real chance until, Brady is retired or seriously injured. And at this point Mallett is number 3 on the depth chart behind Brian Hoyer. So by the time anyone really finds out about Mallett, I am guessing somewhere around 3+ years is going to go by at least. Meaning minimum for 3 years at the earliest before Mallett, is found out whether he can compete in the NFL... Can he move around in the pocket, becasue his footwork was horrible in his first preseason. He looks like the statue of liberty back there and I mean that about mobility and ability to shift away from pressure. Now in all of that time, hopefully for his success, he buys into the Patriots way of life and doesnt find trouble with drugs or other issues that popped up in his past. I am not saying he will, but I am bringing up a valid point that as Peter points out, allowed alot of people to pass on him..
So by the time Ireland, would have any regrets, Henne is going to be the guy, or Ireland would have surely pulled the trigger on someone else. and moved beyound it. We are talking 3 drafts from now.
But lets go the other direction with it, Ireland drafts Mallett, with the 15 pick in the draft. Because, not having a second rd pick, if you really liked him, and you were the Dolphins GM, waiting until the third wouldnt have been a realistic guess predraft.
SO then we are bad, because of lack of a center, Mallet beats out Henne in this scenario, but his lack of mobility combined with little improvement on the interior of the oline, gets him beat up bad, and his weakness is exposed, make him move. We struggle and only win 5 games, and Ireland and SParano are fired because they drafted Mallett... The GM and coach are hired, and that guy drafts the best center, and goes with a Henne, signs Reggie Bush, signs Matt Moore, etc.
WIns 11 games and goes to the playoffs, i think Ireland, likes his choices, and bringing up Mallett, after playing a half against some scrubs, in preseason is somewhow causing Ireland to have regrets. SOrry but I dont buy it... This is just a reporter makiing news that isnt real or so far out, it is like predicting someone is going to win the lottery 3 years from now, and the other guy is going be upset becasue he didnt buy a ticket...
I'd also like to see what the respected Peter "Green" King had to say about Mallet a few months ago when he was too hung over to make his Carolina interview.

-First,it takes a few seasons as an nfl starter to judge if a rookie is great.(as seadevil mentioned above)
-Second,every year writers & fans go through the entire draft to see who becomes successful just to make the statement: We should have drafted this guy.(Hindsight is 20/20)

No, we could have had Pouncy and Mallet in the 2d, just not Danny Thomas (we could have found another RB easily, either later in the draft or FA).
I certainly respect your opinion, and I have no question that you’re a truly dedicated Miami Dolphin fan, and you want what’s best for the team. However, in pursuit of intellectual integrity and “keeping it real,” your counterpoint to King’s is far more assumptive and speculative than his core assertion.
You say you’re taking the “logical route,” but what you put forth as “evidence” that King is wrong is littered with gross assumptions. Point number one, King is illuminating the value of Mallett and the irony the Pats already have a legit QB framed against the simple fact the Miami Dolphins do not. Ya know, sort of like the rich get richer. And here’s a very simple fact to consider – Mallett has some core skills that are widely recognized as NFL grade, and Brady has proven the fact you don’t have to be an athlete to be a successful QB in Billygoats offense, so Mallett’s lack of jitterbug mobility is not a death blow.
Your speculation on “drugs” is akin to predicting the future and playing football psychic. Therefore I could just as easily predict an entirely different outcome. At this point there’s no reason to believe Mallett cannot mature as most young men do and grow into a professional. So let’s get real, if the kid didn’t have a few questions he would have been a sure 1st rounder. The fact the Pats discounted him and grabbed him in the 3rd is a really BIG ISSUE in Miami – since NE sucks monkey penis and they took a QB we most definitely had on our radar. So King is 100% correct that this “situation” could come back and haunt Ireland to his grave. Or maybe not…
As far as 3 drafts from now, et cetera. That’s pure smoke IMO. We’ve needed a QB for how many years? And when we get the chance, for whatever reason, we always find a way to “plat it safe” and take an OL.
In regards to Mallett tumbling down draft boards and the whole “since so many teams passed on him he’s obviously vermin,” it seems the last great QB we had suffered from a similar malady. And NO, I am not comparing the two, but the NFL is a herd mentality and history has proven even the supposed smartest GM’s are dumb a lot of the time.
Last, your list of assumptions concludes with Mallett being in Miami and hence the entire regime “implodes.” This one is really funny IMO. First of all, Mallett’s theoretical arrival would not preclude Henne from being in the mix and Moore as well. The odds are Mallett would be given an opportunity to ramp up and run with big boys if capable, but he wouldn’t be thrown into the starting role day 1. But, and this is the really good part, we’d have a legit talent to develop at QB – and the Pats inversely wouldn’t.
My point is, that the biggest concern by most around here is how is this oline going to hold up. Correct? Could you imagine our chances had we not drafted the top interior lineman in the draft... Mallett is no Tom Brady, he has half the mobility of Brady. Trying to compare Brady as an Athlete to Mallett is quite a big jump, or assumption.. King made many assumptions to draw his conclusions, I just showed you that any one can draw conclusions that they will never be able to be called on or validated until people have already forgot the prediction.. Furthermore it is a safe bet or piling on for King to take shots at Ireland, with no real reprecations to being wrong other then he is betting against Henne... But remeber, if Henne fails it says nothing about Mallett being successful, yet I am sure we will read more garbage spin trying to degrade the Dolphins on the matter... Maybe they can make Mallett into the next Kevin Kolb
Mallet had drug and alcohol questions? No? I am not creating this out of thin air, it was a concern so match that many people didnt feel safe drafting him. And the guy who did, seems to be a home for wayward problem athletes with questions surrounding him.. SO that is all of sudden validation he would thrive everywhere and what a mistake really... Just out of curiosity how did Randy Moss thrive outside of the Patriots before and after? Oh was a bum on the raiders, thrown off the Vikings, and then the Titans... Come on now...
Berk- your hindsight is 20/20, most people did not assume mallett in the third, if we wanted Mallett we need to trade out or take him 15. If we couldnt get a trade partner, then you have to pull the trigger at 15

I don't get the logic. Mallet was on the board when we made the trade into the 2d. We could have taken him if we wanted, but chose RB instead. I can see Mallet as too big a risk at 15, but less so in the 2d. Where the reward exceeds the risk, pull the trigger.
They didnt have a strong conviction on the guy, if they did he wouldnt have fallen. There was talk that we were trying to get back into the rd to take him, even talk to the Pats about a pick and they drafted him at this point... Either way, I am not conviced Mallet would have done anything for this team or regime especially so they didnt draft him... Sanchez tooks his team to the AFC championship 2 years in a row and surely is not a franchise qb anymore then Henne. They have a formula of what they are trying to do to be successful this year and Mallet would have just taken awayt from the players needed for that formula...
I am just not buying that any of these drafts picks are going to be successful at all if not for many years besides Cam Newton.
How many successful QB's came from the draft class year we drafted Beck? How many Qb's were drafted? Alot... I am sure many reporters probably even Peter King, had GM's crying over spilled milk because they didnt draft one after a preseason perfromance or 2. How many are crying now or having regrets? Not many? Otherthen maybe Philly who robbed the bank when trading Kevin Kolb to Arizona... ANd he hasnt proven anything.
In the final analysis it doesn’t matter. This franchise has now established a verifiably record of neglecting the QB position year in and year out. We’re always looking for an easy fix or some “miracle” to just materialize out of thin air. Well, we had the chance to get Mallett in the 3rd and sat around watching as NE grabbed him. And then we went through the rest of the draft and passed on every other QB prospect yet again. By repeating this pattern, year after year, it’s rather obvious why we have an ongoing QB quagmire – quite simply we’re unwilling to make the necessary investment to find a solution.
This wouldn’t be such a festering mess if the QB position was on par with a RB or TE. But we all know the handful of teams with legit NFL passers are the perennial contenders. We, on the other hand, are certifiable pretenders. And it’s about time we stop pretending about that.
I will be the first one in line to go up and grab a top 1st rd QB candidate next year if we fail to make the playoffs with the ones we have. I am not saying that. I am saying that by the time our 15 pick had come around, so many Qb prospects were gone. I am not into drafting the 5th QB in the draft even if that is a 1st rd pick. QB's were overinflated in value this past draft class, I am not sure staying away from a reach was not a bad idea. Mallet for a third was the only thing I could have lived with mainly as people said the risk vs reward. But I am no more convinced of Mallet as many others... Out of all the 1st rd QB's drafted this past draft, how many are gonna be flops?
Basicly I dont like the fact that a reporter is arguing we should have done something or a GM is gonna have regrets before the player he is using to create those regrets has ever done anything of meaning in the NFL. Cant we all agree that is kind of bogus?
FOr example,
I remember certain reporters saying the DOlphins made a huge mistake in taking Jake Long over Vernon GHolston, becasue GHolston had once gotten a sack against Long in college... And that showed that Long would get beat, and GHolston could get sacks on the number 1 overall draft pick, and what fools we were. The jets checked mated our Long move by drafting Gholston, Longs cryptonite, as far as the stories read..
It wasnt anywhere close to what would actually play out, but it sold newspapers so to speak..lol

@UntoGod: Brady said he will play for the next 8-10 years.
@Berk: We definately need an upgrade, I am am with you as far as drafting that guy. The problem is, statistically speaking....the round to draft a franchise QB is in the 1st round. Not later.
So, when we take one...it needs to be in the 1st round.
no it's not bogus because this is not hindsight based on one preseason game. it's something many of us were saying before, during, and after the draft. mallet's showing in the game is just a jumping off point to renew the discussion. it's water under the bridge, sure, but without stuff like this sports wouldn't be as interesting to discuss
There is nothing to discuss the guy, Mallet hasnt done anything... All of the arguments either way are nothing more then making huge assumptions... WHich makes the ass out of you and I...
