I am extremely discouraged to hear this. Not surprised, though. This has been Sparano's M.O. since he came here, and, YES, he's digging his own grave by saying this. I'm so tired of head coaches who hang their hat on the guy they drafted and won't budge from that. THIS is why we haven't found a steady guy since Shula.

Exactly. At least say......."I'm encouraged by Moore's play". Lets see if it continue's. The best man will have the Job come the season's opener. Garantee us that and I would give you as much slack as you needed.
But to tell us your going to get us Competition, Purposely avoid any in the draft , and then stand behind him after what he did in that last game? With such a Postive performance by Moore? Did it backfire on him? Did Saprano take Moore because he thought he would offer no Competition and its backfiring on him?
Saprano is either the worst Coach we have had since Shula , or Henne has Pictures of Saprano doing something much worse then collecting and starring in Foot fetish Videos.
Channing Crowder just said what we all having been saying for years. Henne doesn't have "IT"! That "IT" being the drive to win the game with 2 minutes left and your down by 5.
wasn't the whole mantra by the FO this offseason to bring in a QB to "compete" with Henne? What happended to that? Oh yeah, he blew the competition away with stellar performances in practice and the first preseason game ending all talk to competetion. wait, he didn't?
In defense of Tony he may be saying this because he has limited faith in Moore due to his prior experience with him. But of course, if that’s the case, then WHY even bring the dude into the mix?
So maybe (in defense part II) Sparano is just trying to shelter the sloth from even more psychological rupture because he MUST know by now Henne is as Henne does – and what he’s done so far reinforces his dominant sloth image.
Therefore we must conclude Tony is doing his best to shunt a locker-room war and subsequent revolt to oust Henne and send him to culinary school. But even if successful, the “reward” for Tony will be yet another turn of the broken record. And when those bad notes hit the field the barbarians will come down like locusts over Sloth Beach.

If you're gonna freak out about something at least get the facts accurate.
His exact word were....
"I mean I wouldn't say there is a battle RIGHT THIS SECOND....
The writer is injecting his opinion so he has something to write about. Not that Moore will ever get a shot but he didn't say that there won't be competition next week or whatever.
Henne has had the playbook since February....Moore can't run the offense if he only knows 10 plays. Its gonna take more time.
Secondly....it was Larry Izzo not Zach Thomas...wasn't it?

Either way you get my point. I also remember when Belichik replaced Bledsoe with some unknown 6th rounder.I thought he was nuts, as did many Pats fans. Tony is the Problem here, Not chad Henne. I see that now.

Moore is heading into his 5th season in this offensive system.

Jeff Davidson was the OC in Carolina. He and Daboll came up through the Patriots' system together, both as disciples of Charlie Weis. Their systems are very similar. This is why Moore was mentioned as a logical signing months ago.
I will agree that Sparano is the problem if he tries to force the issue with a bad qb.
If he makes a switch and it still doesn't work then its on Ireland.
It may be a similar system. I don't know....but I doubt all terminology is the same. I doubt he just stole CWs entire system or Carolinas offense and terminology.
Why? Why do we need to sacrafice a few games to Let Henne Hang himself? See how he performs the next 2 games. preseason. Thats It. if he continues to throw INTs , bullets that players can't catch, or is just flat and uninspiring , While Moore excelles, let Moore take snaps with the first Team and lets get ready for a Killer season.

There are only a handful of basic offensive systems in the NFL. You have the old school Paul Brown, which we ran under Henning, the Coryell, the Zampese, and the Walsh (west coast). Daboll and Dsvidson come from the Erhardt-Perkins system. Over the years, Belichick has incorporated elements of the spread offense into this basic philosophy, and I think we will see aspects of that, too. Every coordinator has their own nuances, but there are only 5 or 6 basic systems. Matt Moore has played in this base system for four years.
It's stances like that (if true), and his lack of an established O-line (his expertise) that had me backing the Harbaugh pursuit last year. Maybe Tony see's something in Henne (or doesn't in Moore) that would make him say that this early.....but why? Why not at least give Moore a fair shot to win it. If nothing else, give the apperance of a QB competition to keep the disgruntled fan-base happy.

Maybe if we are that decent of a team, we give up a few draft picks To move up. Give up 2013's first rounder along with this years 2nd and exchange 3rd rounders. For a Franchise QB thats a bargain.

If we win 7 to 9 games, I'm sure we'll have to trade up for Barkley or Jones. The thing that's gonna help us, is that with so many QBs taken early this year, the demand won't be as high next year.

if luck is as good as advertised, it's going to take a lot more than a 2d and next years first to trade up to get him. especially with the new rookie salaries. and any team that had the #1 pick most likely would need a QB and would never trade out of the pick.

Didn't Cincy, San Fran and the Vikes all take a QB relatively high this year? You could also argue Denver (Tebow/Orton), Buffalo and Dallas have enough going to not take one too high either.
I guess without knowing how this year plays out it's hard to figure who will need what. I also think that even if Henne has a good year, i'd go all in on the best available QB in next years draft. He's too inconsistent to trust year in and year out.
