I view De Smith like a hot-shot lawyer that takes a Serial Killers case just for the publicity, I think he's enjoying his 15 mins a little too much.

The players and players union are no different than society at large today. Everybody "organized" feel they are not getting their fair share. It's mind boggling. People with nothing "in" wanting all they can get "out" like it's their "right". I side with the owners totally. How can anyone logically come to any other choice? The owners have put in their own money...not the players. Most every player has had a free ride since leaving High School. No out of pocket for them. Now they cry about the dangers of the job they chose to persue and want the owners to basically guarantee their lifetime of happiness? LOL ! I understand that their scholarship to wherever does not mean they are college educated...so maybe they could just start boning up and do something with the blessings they receive. Do what average Joe's do...continually study, invest, and prepare for a better life ahead, instead of whining about somebody else not providing it all for you. The Nanny State lives on.

Thanks for the chuckles. But you've got to remember that the Labor movement has its origin in guys who are "rough around the edges."

Remember Jimmy Hoffa. But I like the comment of the writer wondering how many NFL players would agree with De Smith's risking of "everything." But hey, that's the nature of labor disputes.

the nfl definately seems to be much smoother at the pr side of things than de smith. since they both seem desperate to have the fans on "their" side smith doesn't seem very good at his job, tone deaf

The Doty ruling is not something I think that would be expidited on appeal by the 8th Cir, so if the plan is to wait till they have exhaused the appeal there (remember we are still waiting for the Doty ruling on damages), it's not something there would be a ruling on till Dec or Jan at the absolute earliest. So I don't think anyone's plan is to do nothing till there is a final ruling in that case.

Doesn the 8th circuit have oversight, on the Doty ruling on damages. That is what I am refering to. Am I misunderstanding something?

no you are understanding it. but it is a seperate case, would need to be appealed seperatly, under its own time schdule. and nothing could happen re an appeal until Doty rules on damages, which hasn't happened yet

I ask you to do me a favor and go back and look at my predictions nad my perceptions on the matter, and that off Pf2, or anyone else for that matter. And please tell me who's predictions and perceptions up until this point have been pretty much right on the money...
And then go back and look at Phinfans2 post on the matter and his perceptions, and i think you will sing a very different tune.

I only have the right to believe in myself despite all of what you all say, because whether pf2 likes it or not, I have been entirely correct with my predictions and perceptions. So I am once again, going to have self confidence, in my intellect and perception on the matter, not some guy that relies on the boogie monster and miracale tonics to explain away events...

I haven't read the rest of the posts after this one yet, Crowder, but I was not addressing predictions at all. I was addressing what I considered to be (JMO Just my opinion) your "over the top" interpretation that DeSmith is intentionally trying to sabotage the negotiations. So I think you're responding to the wrong point.

Moreover, until the football season does OR DOES NOT occur, we really will not be able to say whose predictions will prevail. I only threw in that sentence about my agreement with Ghotirule that the players would win because I was saying I was "in the middle" on this issue and I didn't want anyone to bring that up and say I was biased towards the players.

One thing being on this board teaches me is that how easily words can be misinterpreted.

SMith holds a tremendous blame and benefit to the owners. For all I know the onwers want him in place, for exactly the reason we are seeing. He is divisive, even among those that support him, so what could be better for the owners. I am going to have to rethink this...

guys, we may hate De Smith because of how he comes off but the players had a choice a few years back of going with him or troy vincent to replace upshaw. they went with Smith because he was viewed as more combative and less concialtory than both Upshaw and Vincent. Troy has since gone to work for the NFL, so they were probably onto something there. Bottom line is Smith is doing what he was hired to do; whether the players are having second thoughts on that decision is another story.

Note: To those who missed the joke, there is a reverend out here in California who has predicted the beginning of the Apocolypse as TOMORROW!

By the way the same guy also predicted it for 1994 but he says that was due to a math error.
