Posted by: miamid45 ()

Probably one of these 3 will be our QB next season.

Hasselbeck has looked good today.thumbs up

McNabb hasn't been good past 2 seasons.sad smiley

Orton for the 1st half of this season was solid.thumbs up

Any other options, other than the obvious choice of drafting someone?

I like Volek a lot and I think he's a legit QB, but keep in mind that he turned down an opportunity to start in Buffalo in order to back up Rivers in SD.

I think the guy is content to carry a clipboard.

Billy Volek is 35 years old. In his entire 10 year career, he has 561 pass attempts. And 357 of those came 6 years ago. There is no real way to say what kind of QB he is now in 2011.

McNabb turns 35 this year, and currently has a huge contract. He'll likely be cut, because I can't imagine anyone trading for him. It's not true to say McNabb has not been good for 2 seasons. In 2009, he had a 92.9 rating with 22 TD and 10 INT. Of course, at the time, he was blessed with exceptional speed at the WR position, something we sorely lack.

John Elway seems more inclined to keep Orton as his starting QB. He told Peter King that he doesn't think Tebow is a good NFL QB. If they decide to trade Orton, it's going to take a 1st round pick plus something to get him.

Matt Hasselbeck turns 36 this season. His passer ratings the last 3 seasons are 57.8, 75.1, and 73.2. So, in his last 3 years, he has not had a rating as good as either of Henne's first two seasons as the starter. Over those 3 years, he has thrown 34 TD and 44 INT.

An aging veteran QB is not the answer for us. A QB does not come close to fixing our issues on offense. We need an entire new interior of the o-line, and maybe a RT if they cut Carey because his salary skyrockets this year. We need two new RBs. We need a 2nd TE. And we need at least 2 WR who can get deep, and can also turn short throws into big plays. And we need a new scheme with our new OC. And with no CBA in place, there is the possibility that free agency will be severely limited this year, and may not happen at all. And if there is a lockout, that means no OTAs for guys to work on the new scheme, and to work with their new teammates. Due to this combination of circumstances, a quick fix solution would be a huge mistake. They need to be thinking 2-3 years from now.

No to Volek, McNabb, Hasselbeck, or any other journeyman.

We need a legit QB.

So A&O what is your solution? Stay wih Henne?

At 15 we may see Locker, Newton, Gabbard or even Mallet(had some bad PR this week), but if not???

There's a reason why this guy sits on the bench and nobody is willing to shell out the bucks it would take to get him. Give me McNabb for a couple of years while we develop a new young kid.

I think Volek is paid more than Henne. I think the chargers gave him $5m a year

maybe Ross should give Henne more $ and years to "apologize" for the benching this year? makes about as much sense as giving Sporano more $ and years to "apologize" for trying to replace him with someone better after the fiasco which was last season.

Out of those three guys Hasslbeck would be the guy...But, I would only offer him a two or three year deal with incentives and have it be heavilly backloaded.

This year, I'd rather have an agressive, innovative, OC, keep Henne and Thigpen and draft a rookie for competition.

The best player in camp and preseason...plays! Whomever it turns out to be.

I agree with the above. NO MORE RECYCLED GARBAGE or quick fixes.

I don’t want to invest ANY draft capital in a QB cast-off, especially one that’s 35 or thereabouts.

If these idiots are not capable of indentifying a solid pro QB prospect in college then get rid of them NOW.

Ireland will remain a basic failure until he solves the QB puzzle.

Sparano will remain the village idiot until he puts a functional QB on the field.

Ross will fail as an owner until the Miami Dolphins find a franchise QB.

"So are you saying that if Ireland stands pat with Henne and he flops again, that he wont be on the hot seat next year?

No. Henne wasn't even mentioned in my post. He has nothing to do with this."

I know you didn't mention Henne, I was using that as an example of a scenario to test Ross's loyalty to Ireland.

"I see it as proof that he's won control of the direction of the franchise and that he is the one person in the organization NOT on a short leash because there is no way his plan is a 1 year fix."

I think if he had "won" control, Sparano would of been fired and Ireland would of conducted the head coaching search, or it would of been left up to Ireland to evaluate Sparano and make a decision like is the normal way to go when you have a trusted GM. Other then that I think it's just a difference of opinion, I think Ireland's still on shaky ground and you don't.
