This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
I would probably tend to agree (giving Ireland the benefit of the doubt on some key blunders like White and 1 QB drafted - assigning more responsibility to tuna).
But it’s not like we’ve had much in the FO since Beathard.
Ireland seems to have some perceived respect in the league and has the credentials to be good. He needs to learn from his mistakes and stop being so formulaic in evaluating players. But again, that may be tuna’s fingerprint as much as anything
disagree. I think we've had more high round busts and high cost FA busts with Ireland in a 3 year period than just about anyone else. I'd say he's better than Mueller and Saban and Speilman, but that's not saying much at all. JJ was better, Tom Heckert was better, I'd say everyone thru JJ was better
people used to say the same thing about Speilman--"well he wanted Boldin but Wanny wanted Eddie Moore." He sucks and Ireland has proved no better. Once parcells left before the season, the moves got more and more bizarre----putting Allen on IR, cutting Grove and Thomas, cutting vet Dline help for nonnames cut from the Seahawks--that was all Ireland and each a headscratcher and bad move
The only move Ireland made that was a great one was signing Cam Wake--but honestly, that was a no-lose move, if he pans out, awesome, if not, well he's just some street FA we didn't give up anything to get
Do we really know what Irelands's track record or philosophy is? until he gets a chance to run his own operation it's all speculation. Parcells has a blueprint of bigger and stronger over speed and quickness and Ireland worked under those guidelines and pursued those types of players. Is that his philosophy or will he have his own? we just don't know....I guess the question is are the dolphins willing to give him that opportunity and is he worth the risk. Answer seems to be YES!
"what's he proven that he is the deal breaker to getting someone like Cowher?"
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
But that is my point. what has he proven to us? I am not sure. But, what has he proven to Steven Ross? Obviously enough for Ross to choose him over Cowher and Gruden (which is ultimately what he did).
We only know page 1 of this story. We dont know page 2.
What if Ireland has a presentation of all his work as a GM and it is beneficial stuff, and he can prove that most of the bad decisions were made by Parcells?
We dont know. We only have limited info.
But what we do know, is that Ross has chosen Ireland over everybody else, including Cowher and Gruden.
