I'm not sure why we cut an OLB that was pushing for more playing time for an ILB that is insurance against Crowder being well and truly hurt. These guys are total opposites-Crowder is poor against the pass, but a stalwart against the run. The book on Carpenter is that he is weak against the run, but is adequate against TE's. Are they thinking Dobbins against the run, with Carpenter filling the role envisioned for Edds?
couldn't we have kept anderson and got rid of the one of yahoo browns/seahawks rejects we just resigned yesterday instead? Anderson can play both positions and was looked at as an emergency starter in the middle just the other day
I have watched Bobby Carpenter since he played at Ohio State, and I beleive he can be a good football player if given the chance which he did not get in Dallas. He is fast enough to cover tight ends and can tackle when he plays. I think he just needs a fresh start, and he is an upgrade over Charlie Anderson. I like this move, and I hope Carpenter becomes the player this front office envisions. I watched him play in a game Dallas was on national TV last year, and he did quite well. Here hoping we got a diamond in the rough.
Carpenter is an older version of A.J. Edds, and he will cover the tight ends and help on special teams. I don't think this is a bad move at all. Carpenter can help this team, and we need all the help we can get.

Totally agree. Carpenter can do a variety of things to help us.
Hmm. Last year we had no one of any value at ILB (considering Crowder was playing, basically, out of position at SIL. Are we overreacting by stockpiling ILBs? Charlie Anderson played well in short stints last year. I'm shocked that we let him go. Must be a money thing. I'm guessing he made more than Wake.
I thought the operating theory is "if they don't bite as puppies, they won't bite period." The Carpenter signing doesn't seem to follow the official line.
wth......not moses or some other scrub but a pass rusher? carpenter couldnt even make the team in lowly st. louis and now he is a prize? wth is the fo doing...these moves r really strange.
Yeah, I was surprised Moses even made the team. I figured he'd be the first to get the ax. Last year Moses practiced well but played terrible, prompting Sparano to play Anderson INSTEAD. Anderson played VERY well when called on. We must have a really short memory.

On the occasions I have watched him, he seems to do well.

I don't see it as a homer move. Special Teams were shakey in the preseason with all the mixing and matching. They probably figured lets attack this problem and try and upgrade the unit. By adding Clifton Smith and Bobby Carpenter we have upgraded our special teams alot
Bobby Carpenter can play football, but when you get a reputation for underacheiving it tends to follow you throughout your career. Carpenter almost made the Rams, and he can cover tight ends in this leauge. I say he resurrects his fledging career with the dolphins, and actually helps this team win some games. Now I don't have a crystal ball, but he is still young enough to still turn his career around.

This is 100% spot on by Finshady. I totally agree. Carpenter can play. He helps us at OLB and special teams. Is he better than Anderson? I don't know, but I know he helps us in 2 places where Anderson only helped us in one. I like this sigining, and I give the front office credit for making this move
The sky is falling or can it be that me and Mike O can coexist, and even agree on this board. The Mayans might be right the end could be near soon LOL.

When you are right I will say you are right. And when you are wrong, well.....we know what happens then!
I know you were kidding. Passion is a good thing! Wish more fans had it. Especially the ones who live in South Florida and have the option to go to all home games!!
We will see if Carpenter can play as he will be the 3rd middle linebacker on Sunday. He will probably be covering David Martin or the other tight end on passing situations.

Really? I would think Johnson would be the 3rd MLB if Crowder is out. Carpenter hasn't played a single down for our team.
Carpenter can cover better than a slow Micah Johnson why do you people hate on Bobby C. Carpenter is alot better player than Johnson not to mention faster and more athletic. Johnson will not see the field except maybe for special teams.
