Are you serious?!? Glad you aren't the GM.
We traded depth at WR for depth at CB. Given that we had zero depth at CB and are very deep at WR makes this a great trade.
Right now, we've lost nothing at WR, but we filled a huge, gaping hole at CB depth. When Allen gets back, Sapp will rarely see the field beyond STs. But until then, he will be on the field on every passing down. Can't say that for Camarillo.
Checked out what Minny fans had to say about Sapp and am satisfied w/ him. Seems to be a good slot corner w/ some good one on one sklls. Has done a good job when asked to start. Very few complaints no wow we really gotta have this guy either.

I'm no Jason Allen fan either, but that is kinda harsh. The problem most of us have with the guy is that he never met his round one expectations. But he is cheap, a very good ST player, and can back up Safety and CB. Allen is fast and a hard hitter, but his real problem is constancy. I'm not sure we can do better for what we are paying him. And I really don't see him gone. We are thin at DB.
"we've lost nothing at WR, but we filled a huge, gaping hole at CB depth" I agree with your first point, but I don't like adding "mediocre" depth. As you said, "until Allen gets back, he will be on the field on every passing down." If this guy really is mediocre, that's a frightening thought.

I have to agree here. He's a great ST player.
Look, Jason Allen isn't starting on this Defense, and that is a HUGE disappointment for a first round pick. But in a pinch, he works as a backup at every position - CB, Nickle, Dime, FS, SS. I wouldn't want to rely on him defensively over a multi-game stretch, but having a utility guy on the bench while he makes play after play on STs is a major plus.
After his Pre Season on STs, there is no way he gets cut.

Maybe we should have traded Marshall for Darrel Revis....
Seriously, what else are we going to do? It isn't like experienced CBs grow on trees. Teams keep those types of players for a reason, and we wouldn't have found a better player on the streets even after the 53 cut. We did the best we could do - we traded a journeymen WR for a journeymen CB. This was a very good deal for both teams.
Oh, and on week two, we will likely see Sapp covering Camarillo. If this traded hadn't of happened, we would have likely seen Sapp covering Bess.

Accomplished or not, Jason Allen will be on the 53 man roster on Week 1. Take that to the bank.

If you don't think today's trade helped the Miami Dolphins football team for the year 2010 you don't understand what NFL football is all about. Expecting top level talent to be 4th CB's on an NFL roster is insane.
Well, I'll reserve judgment on the trade, but I don't equate "journeyman" with mediocre. I will be looking forward to the confrontation of Sapp and Camarillo in the second week, though.
MikeO despises Jason Allen for some reason. Probably the same reason most do--he's a big time 1st round bust. BUT he is our best special teams player and has played pretty well when he actually gets in games. He has a useful role on this team and I'll be upset if we cut him.
I don't know yet if today's trade helped the 2010 Miami Dolphins or not. Perhaps only in the sense that it opened up another WR job. Just my insane opinion.

Because he can't play!! I could care less he was a 1st round pick. That was a long time ago at this point, I have moved on from that. But he stinks! Yes he plays decent special teams, SO WHAT? Those guys are a dime a dozen.

"All depth is mediocre!! Especially when talking about a 4th CB!" Ah, but this depth is going to be on the field on every passing down, in one poster's opinion. Worrisome. Besides, all depth is NOT mediocre.
Look at our-and other teams-STs. Obviously those guys AREN'T "a dime a dozen". Many people around the league, including our own coaches, think he can play. You do seem to despise Jason Allen, for some reason.
Jason Allen is not "horrible"--he was against the Pats in 2007 but so was everyone. Other than that game, he's been OK, and sometimes pretty decent (i.e., the Pats game last year up in NE).

Because he isn't any good! lol, not that tough to figure out. Same reason I despised Gabril Wilson!
And IF our coaches think he can play...then how come in the past 2 offseasons this new front office/coaching staff has added.....Chris Clemons, Gabril Wilson, Eric Green, Vontae Davis,Nate Jones, Sean Smith, Rashead Jones, Nolan Carroll, Nate Ness.......want me to keep going??? The list is longer..
Jason Allen was here when Parcells/Ireland/Sparano came into town on their white horses. IF they are happy with him how come they keep bringing in guys who get playing time before him? How come they don't give Allen a shot to start on defense somewhere?
We have kept Jason Allen around for 1 reason. He is a decent special teams player. As the dolphins get better as a team overall that role will go away quick for him since Jason Allen can't contribute on the field as a defensive player. When that clock strikes midnight, who knows but its getting real close!
