I have read in several articles in the last few weeks that Parcels is less likely to change the prototype for the defensive front 7 than he is for almost any other position.

They are not risking draft picks for Incognito and not even much money.

They are risking more for Marshal but the reward is higher.

Ken:

Moving up into the second is not as easy as you would think. The draft value drops drastically after the second round.

Look at my previous post in this thread. It shows that even if we trade Smiley, Ginn and Ronnie Brown, we are only likely to get around 137 points in draft value....that is a low third rounder.

And even getting that value is not likely.

I bet we make some draft day trades possibly before, and on draft day. My thinking is the Trio knows what players they want to draft, and about where they will be drafted. With that said we make trade with teams to better position ourselves to get these players. You got to beleive that the brain trust beleives they are not that far away if the pulled the trigger for Brandon Marshall. A rebuilding team does not make that trade. Am I right on this or did we just want to get better on offense?

Had to get better on offense. This isn't a win-now move adding Marshall. This is a getting-good move!!! Our WR corps was the worst in the NFL. Now it is one of the better groups in the NFL!

IF we were in win-now mode we would have resignd JT a while back

I can think of 1 receiver more DANGEROUS than MARSHALL (A Johnson)

RE: I realize that it's not easy to move up. But, teams do it for far less and for far more than the trade value chart suggests they should...the chart at best is a guideline and is not to be taken literally. We need the kinds of players that moving up would be able to provide us and D. Thomas would be a big reason to pull the trigger on such a move...he would instantly upgrade our entire offense and he's got everything we could want with size, power, speed and skills. I suggested that we package picks and players in order to get it done and I believe we should do it. We will still be able to add another high quality linebacker, a developmental saftey and a couple of other players simply by trading away some of our picks this year and a couple of players that would be expendable anyway.

Nothing but upside at this point in time.
