We all know where we need help. The questions are how can they be addressed? Out of the needed positions, how much does the talent level drop off between the top player available and the players in subsequent rounds?
NT: Dan Williams is the best NT available but comes with as many questions as the next few players. Not a huge drop off here. The one year wonder thing scares me as much as it does with Jason Pierre-Paul.
Most likely DW will not be able to start from day one. NT's are generally two down players. He dominates at the senior bowl but against some nasty Pro Bowl NFL centers and guards? Different story. Could be a year or two away just like later picks.
OLB: No clear cut choice here...don't like Kindle, Paul is raw, can Morgan play in coverage?, Hughes and Graham may be the best ones but 12 is probably a reach. Graham could play W or S. Hughes is probably a WOLB.
Can we find alternatives and pick one later? Yes. Sign JT and hope Hughes falls or grab Misi later. Deep position all the way thru the draft...lots of sleepers. Worilds could be a good SOLB among others.
FS: There is a bigger drop off here than maybe any position. Thomas and Berry are 1a and 1b with value at pick 12...then it drops to 2nd round for a player that probably can't start from day one anyway. Deep draft but only two elite FS's. FO is looking at converting CB's in later rounds. If we pass on these two we almost have to either grab one by the third and hope he can play or go after one of two FA's.
WR: There is a chance, albeit slim of getting a #1 @ 43 but it gets harder the later we wait. There are only 4 IMO. The staff knows this and I would not be surprised to see us take Bryant and a 6th round project. 5th if we can move Smiley.
Using this logic, we would go one of two ways...
#1 Bryant, #2 FS or OLB, #3 FS or OLB, #4 NT or OLB
or
#1 E. Thomas and hope Benn, Tate or D. Thomas falls to 43...not likely so we would have to go OLB @ #43 or NT if Cody is there and gamble on the WR from Syracuse later if he checks out.
ILB: Not a huge need as some of the other positions but I think Daryl Washington will be one of if not the best ILB of the draft. McClain is not worth 12 based on what we need but I would not be dissapointed to land Washington @43...He is rising fast though.
Yes I know if it wasn't for football some of these prospects couldn't work the 3rd shift at a Dairy Queen. Recently another player referred to his one foot and two feets. I am not kidding. It just goes to show you how the world of students atletes is way more tilted at some schools towards the athletes, and not the students especially in football.
hey don't rip on berry for his pronunciation. if he's serious about wanting to be a dentist more power to him, he could be smart and just not sound like it. plus, he's about to make more than all of us braniacs put together, so he's gonna be getting some use out of that college experience after all

Nice job on this. Well thought and explained. It makes me hate the cheating ass Pats all the more with 3 2nd round picks. Wow, what we could do with that! And maybe recover the 2nd on Pat White last year -- that seems to be a poor decision at this point.
Berkeley...I'm sorry but if you have gone through 3 years at a well know university AND are planning to be a dentist...and still haven't figured out how to pronounce teeth then you are going to get made fun of...and deserve it. I don't care how much money you are about to make!
Would you get your teeth worked on by a dentist that said teef? Not me.
I just hope that their is a run on RB's or some other position in the first round so we can land a top WR (Benn or Thomas) at 43...and for Clausen to be picked in the top 11.
I don't think we will have a chance on Dez Bryant. There are too many teams with big WR needs that pick before us....Cle, Den, Buf, Jax, TB.
I am also hoping for Dez Bryant to fall to at least Denver so they can make the trade with Seattle for Marshall.
If Denver doesn't get the pick they want for Marshall then they may go after Earl Thomas with Berry already off the board. Renaldo Hill is getting old and he did not play that well last year. They have Dawkins who is playing very good at SS.
Landing Earl Thomas and Arrelious Benn or Demaryius would make my day.
Linvall Joseph is shooting up the board as a NT prospect. he may not fit the mold of a Parcels NT as he is a little tall. Terrell Troup may be a closer fit.
