I think one of the best surprises of the season for me was definitely Brian Hartline. He plays with so much heart and intensity. He made plays on offense and special teams all year. When I look at him, I see a kid who's worked his ass off to get where he is, and I don't see him losing that mentality. I think him and Bess will be perfect compliments to a big strong reciever that can stretch the field. Our offense will really take off once we find that guy. I know, every one has known that for years now haha

He's the perfect #2. Smart, good route-runner, good hands, will fight for the catch pretty well, seems to get very good separation and YAC. I think he can beat nearly all of the #2 corners in the league pretty consistently. I think he could be exactly what we need for years in the #2 role, but I don't think he'll ever be the type that defenses change gameplans because of. A true #1 receiver pretty much completes the offense and allows it to attack just about every matchup and piece of the field at any given time.

With Hartline and Bess our #1 WR doesn't have to be Andre Johnston...A guy with 4.4 speed, 6' 2", and runs good routes will open things up for everyone.

Consider a guys fast enough to get open deep in man coverage, with Brian Hartline opposite and Devone Bess in the slot. 1 TE ( Haynos is a HUGE inside target) and Ricky or Ronnie coming out of the backfield.

That challenges a defense. You can double the fast deep guy, and go man with Hartline and a with a safety on Bess, but one of those two will be open, not to mention you have LB's covering Haynos, the RB and the QB.

If they go to a nickel and play 2 deep, Henne is unaccounted for on foot, and the RB and TE are covered with LB's and the middle is stretched.

Hartline is a great #2... that will help other guys be better.

HUGE, yes, but not very good otherwise. He needs to make tough catches. He needs to get open. He needs to block consistently when asked to do so. Haynos has a lot of growing to do. I wouldn't get stuck on him simply because of his size. Remember Ferrell Edmunds?

I'm still wondering about Sperry.

Sperry, yup, he can get open, he can catch, he can block, he can play ST, and he is hungry, and he is cheap, We'll see next pre-season.

Hartline reminds me a lot of Hines Ward. A tough SOB that gets open and is deceptively quick (not fast).
He even blocks well....HE should develop even more next year...

With Bess and Hartline, we are missing 1 go to guy....

Yes, it is going to be difficult to find the guy.

BUT... I am inclined to think that the guy just needs to catch better than Ginn.

Ginn's routes aren't great. He is pretty much speed and x's & o's. He has had chances to make key catches with Henne putting the ball where he could make a play.

I hope they sign a fA and draft a guy. Maybe a 2nd/3rd rounder?

I'd keep the guys we have right now...get Ginn some help with the mental aspects of the game, route running, making better use of his speed, and making his hands better in the off season (say Mark Duper) and then draft a big (6'0" or taller), FAST (4.40) or better), tall, FAST, tough, receiver with great hands...did I mention FAST?

If Ginn can improve these aspects of his game then we have: Making our combined speed at the skill positions pretty good.

1. Big fast rookie guy. (4.40 or better)
2. Ginn (4.32)
3. Hartline (4.45 ish)
4. Bess (4.6 ish)
5. Camarillo (4.55 ish)...might get cut in this scenario.
6. Turner (4.58-4.65)

Ken - that's how I see it, though I'd prefer (1) not to be a rookie. However, in this year's FA, I just don't see a good FA WR making it to us.

And, don't forget, he should be FAST! Yeah, sure. Big, fast WRs with good hands are a dime-a-dozen and easily picked up in later rounds spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

I see it this way:

1. New BIG, FAST guy
2. Hartline
3. Bess
4. Camarillo
5. Ginn (PR/KR and occassional WR)
6. Turner (TE...may be the only way he'll make the team)
