Just like us getting in the playoffs. It is going to take alot of teams screwing up for us to get him!

Would certainly like to have him, but any game-changing defensive player will do! Might be a pipe dream, but would to get a combination of stud ILB, NT, S in the 1st day of the draft. We are close to filling a few holes from being able to take the BPA in the draft. I hope that the regime will address the a couple of positions that take a few years to develop- WR, NT, OLB, TE.

YUP WR and defense is on the next fix for this team. Truthfully we are still a few years away from a great team. I think if your not going to win the superbowl you might as well suck and build a dynasty team for the long haul

Maybe Minnesota will trade us 117 picks for Ronnie Brown.

RESPONSE: I agree we have more critical needs than RB but that's nonetheless beside the point.

There is a philosophy that you use very high draft picks on the best blue chip player in ANY AREA OF NEED not just the most urgent. To me it makes more sense to pick a blue chip running back with the 11th pick rather than linebacking or defensive line because we can get good quality players at those positions in the second and third round and how often have you heard of busts when picking linemen 0 or D in the high first round.

(Oh yeah, stat geeks will now come back with a litany of successful early first round defensive linemen failing to mention the longer list of early first round busts at that position.)

BobH, that is the opposite of conventional wisdom, which is NOT to pick RBs that high bc you can get a super star RB after the first round. I could come up with a huge list of star RBs not taken in the first round (and first round RB busts) if I was so inclined, which I am not.

if we draft a RB at #11 then our front office is clueless on every level.

End of story

If they don't go ILB or WR in the 1st, then I'll probably just assume the FO is run by feces throwing monkeys.

Okay, boys. My job is to slowly prepare you for the eventuality. Despite what you say, Berk, with respect to your QBs, RBs, and blue chip WRS, you don't pass on them if they fall to you high in the draft. Now if your argument is that there is no clear Ricky Williams in this draft, then that's another point.

If, however, Heisman winner Ricky Williams were coming out this year and fell to us at number 10, then you're crazy if you think Parcells would say "they're a dime a dozen" or "you can get a superstar RB in the second and/or later rounds."

I think what you are trying to say is that just like Tom Brady being picked in the 6th round (an exaggerated example I concede) that if you go back and look at the star running backs in the last 20 years, they have come out of nowhere in the draft and have come from up and down the rounds.

However, if Parcells thinks that a blue chipper RB is available in the first round, I bet he snags him.

Because the real more indisputable point is that your statement about great running backs coming from later rounds more accurately applies to all pro ILBs.

We want to be a power running team that controls the clock, and Toby freaking Gerhart is the best power runner to come out of college in the last decade. Did you guys not see him run the wildcat in their bowl game against Oklahoma. Now with a healthy Ronnie Brown and Toby Gerhart, along with Ricky we have the most dominat running team in the NFL. That my freinds leads to victories and the playoffs. I would Take Gerhart and then build with free agency and the draft afterwards. I'm telling everyone Gerhart is going to be an absolute stud at the next level.

And teams will put 9 or 10 guys in the box and shut down our running game, we will still be unable to throw the ball and we will be in the saem mess as we are now. Yeah sounds great

Mike O if they 9 or 10 guys in the box we will have receivers who will be wide open. This roster will change at least 40% if not more. Stop being so negative. Henne with more experience and some new blood, and we can make the playoffs. Thats basically what the Jets did this year with a rookie QB. I rest my case.

That's funny. 10 guys in the box! Dude, there are only 11 on defense. If teams have to play 10 guys in the box to stop our running game, then our running game must be the best in NFL history. So, if we play a standard 2 WR set, how is one guy on defense going to cover 2 WRs?

I said 9 or 10. And Pitt had 10 in the box yesterday vs Pat White. It's not a new concept. Especially when you have a weak threat of a passing game with what our WR's we have
