I'm still scratching my head over the Thigpen signing

For the record, I think this was a great move. Thigpen can play, no doubt, but from reading pft.com and watching NFL network, they all keep saying he was added because he is a veteran.
Yeah, I guess...
He was drafted in 2007, so he's got 1 year on Henne and 2 on White. Not exactly the "veteran presence" that everybody seems to think...
Personally, I think we brought this guy in to compete.
And that scares me.
That means the front office is not sold on Henne or White because they're bringing in another young guy.
What WOULD have made sense if they were looking to add a veteran would have been to sign Jeff Garcia, who everybody knew was being released from the Eagles this week.
Which means we would have gotten him without sending a draft pick for compensation.
So now, does this mean we have huge questions at QB? We're right where we started a year and a half ago...
We needed a QB. Thigpen was available, he is young, not requiring a top draft choise, and yup, he will compete. If I'm calling the shots, I would make this move too as Thigpen is the best available player for a ,not to big price.
Garcia? Nope.
I don't believe it has anything to do with confidence in Henne. We just need a another good QB now.
1. Thigpen may be a good pickup, but we're not getting a saavy experienced vet by any stretch. He won 1 of 11 games, on a crappy team.
2. My gut says it is lack of confidence in white should Henne get hurt more so than lack of confidence in Henne.
3. Hopefully Henne looks a lot better once the offense game plan gets tailored for his strengths and weaknesses.
- henne can't do squat without the rest of the team stepping up too!
- If they give him some time you may see him break open the long ball, and that would be a shot in th arm for this team.
There should always be a healthy competition at every position on an NFL team. Just becasue they brought him in to "compete" doesnt mean they dont have faith in Henne.

I don't see it as the front office not been sold on henne. I see it as pat white been a rookie with absolutely no nfl experience now backing up henne. I mean we needed to bring in somebody just in case of injury to henne. You never know.
I read from someone on this site that it was a 6th or 7th round choise.
Not bad for someone that can compete, if that is true.
Anyway, I like this, we need a guy that has what he has.
As far as White, way to early to say anything. Rookie big time, but I would like to see him tuck the ball and run or pull in down and throw. That is what he is good at now.

Thigpen is competition for White at this point, not Henne. And it makes perfect sense. Pennington will still be with the team, and will still serve as Henne's veteran mentor. Thigpen is young, fits the wildcat, and had some success as a 1st year starting QB on a really bad KC team. Why waste a roster spot on an old veteran QB when you can get a 25 year old with some upside?

He was brought in just incase Henne turns into John Beck. If Henne is Beck, then Miami needs a starter the last 5 or 6 games of the year and Thigpen fills that role. And Miami is then back to square 1 next offseason
I just read that Henne is the 13th QB to play since Marino left.............hum? Like some other person said in the article maybe Henne is the curse breaker. Wouldn't that be something?

That's it. Plain and simple!"

WRONG!!!!!!!!
This is the NFL Mike, you dont bring people in "just incase". Henne is the man, he is the starter. But Thigpen is being brought in to push Henne along as well. Thats what this league is about, thats how the football world turns.
Unless your Peyton Manning your job isnt 100% safe in the NFL.
Of all the things youve been wrong on Mike, this one tops them all.

I'm not wrong. By the time Thigpen picks up and learns our offense our season will be 2/3 over!!!! He wasn't brought in to push or compete with Henne. Henne has a month or so to run the show himself. If he fails miserably, then Thigpen will finish out the year. If Henne gets hurt, Thigpen will finish out the year......thats it. Thigpen isn't going into camp to compete next year. Either its Henne or some offseason move we will make. Thigpen is just a warm body to fill a bench spot and he was the BEST warm body available. End of story
I know ive contradicted myself a couple of days ago for what i said about the thigpen signing just to go against someone who shall remain nameless...But i mean this now...
Thigpen IMO has the ability to become a good player for us. From what i saw in last years game againt the chiefs. He can give teams fits.
He may not be a pro bowler but he has some ability as a QB.
I think he can be a better version of fiedler and if surrounded by good talent , can do some good things for this team.
It's very simple. We lost a QB for the season. We signed Thigpen to fill that spot. Not because Henne is inadequate. But because there was an opening on the roster. Thigpen has proven some results on the field, and he wasn't extremely costly. And that's about it.
If a reliable veteran towards the end of his career would have been available, that may have been a better signing, IF the price were right. Garcia is too extreme of an example. Hey, didn't Damon Huard get cut by the 49ers? haha.
The BS? I never said he didnt have a right to his own opinion, I just dont see how somebody can believe that Bill Parcells signs somebody to be a "warm body"!?
Listen, I think Henne is the man. He is the starter, he is who the trifecta trust, and they have all faith in him. But he still needs to be pushed. And thats what Thigpen does. Right now, Pat White does not. And thats why Thigpen was brought in. It's very simple.
