This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
I'm actually alright with the selection the Dolphins ended up with- Fitzpatrick could be that Ronnie Lott-type to knock that perpetual annoying crossing Tight End problem out but I'm thinking that the Dolphins upper management were scared of Rosen in Miami, perhaps rightfully so.
Rosen has a well-documented problem with partying and not taking things seriously. You put him in a town like Miami with its constant nightlife--and I could easily see a wasted pick. Rosen's a guy that was born with the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth, he's never had to struggle. I think he will do much better in a smaller city- in his young years. Maybe he will emerge late- his intellect is humongous. I like his potential- but will he survive?
I think we'd of done better by getting Tremaine Edwards though---that is a immense raw talent, but Let us see what happens in Round 2 and 3.
We were never taking Jackson. I think we would have taken Rosen at 11 had he been there, but there was no way we were trading up to get him...we didn't have the capital to do it.
A cruddy Utility player? Lol. I will book Mark another ignorant comment.
Do you even know how the game of football is played!? The middle of the field on our defense couldn't stop anyone. Even with the games highest paid DT.
Out of the 5 QBs taken the Pats who had 2 1st rounders wanted no part of them. The usual losers drafted up and grabbed them hoping to give thier sad win starved fan base something to be happy about.
We get a defensive thoroughbred. A kid who can do almost anything defensively and you call him cruddy becuase you wanted a splashy flashy pick. Sad.
I suggest you get a book on the fundamentals of Football and learn how the game is won.
I wanted Edmunds or Smith but I am happy with Fitzpatrick. A lot of the "experts" had him as a top 5 talent in this draft.
He can play all over the place and I have heard a lot of people say he could be a top 3 DB\S in the league. Matched up with Jones...I am excited for that.

You're missing my point. Fitzpatrick is a good player yes. But, it begs the question of why you extend MacDonald when 1) he was coming off of an 8 game suspension and 2) his skill set was identical to Reshad Jones. Basically, either they didn't do their homework regarding what type of player McDonald was, or they knew and extended him anyway knowing that at some point they'd need to draft/acquire a free safety. They pissed away cap space that was needed this off season.
They did the same damn thing at defensive end. They extended a mediocre player in Branch then drafted Harris and then traded for Quinn. No plan, just a bunch of random moves that further eat away at the cap space needed to acquire players to fill huge holes.
Tremaine Edmunds was the logical pick. We have no linebacker on the roster that you can unequivocally say is a solid play-maker. Don't give me McMillan because we have no idea what we have in him. He's a second round player who blew out his knee last year. Maybe he pans out and maybe he doesn't. Alonso should thank his lucky stars he got extended before his putrid performance last year. He can't tackle and he sure as hell can't cover anyone. As far as other linebackers on the roster? Special teams players at best.
Can they address linebacker in the second round? Maybe, but the best four are already gone.
I see no plan with this team ever since Tannenbaum took over. A bunch of moves here and there with no long term vision for the team. Until someone with half a brain takes over the decision-making for this team, they'll continue being mediocre. Fans can pretend that things will change, but I have years of watching this crap that tells me it won't. Culture change was their motto? Maybe change the culture surrounding the VP, GM, and head coach would be a more useful theme for this team to commit to.
This is why I think they made that Fitzpatrick pick (I still would have rather seen LB or DT). The Pats, we drafted safety because of the Pats. Fitzpatrick can cover and tackle, and will play a hybrid safety / LB role, similar to the defense they play in Arizona.
Fitzpatrick will play up in the box and help on run defense, and cover RB's out of the backfield, slot receivers and TE's (Gronk).
72, I agree with you on our LB situation. They are really high on McMillan, but he hasn't proven anything yet. Alonso .... he's a body in there I guess.

Unfortunately, the pickings are getting slim at linebacker. Malik Jefferson has speed and size but might be a bit high of a pick at #42. I know some of the sports writers have mentioned Fred Warner as a possible target. Hell, they may not even address linebacker in the second. They might go tight end. That's the problem, free agency left this team with too many holes to address in one draft.
Before the departure of Landry, Suh and Pouncey, we would not have had enough money to sign our draft class. So while free agency took arguably our 3 best players, something had to be done.
I still feel like we could have found a way to keep Landry, but Suh, as good as he was, cost too much. As far as Pouncey, great when he's healthy, but not sure if he will ever be 100% again.

Zach was a once in a generation player plus I trusted Jimmy's judgment a lot more than the guys picking our players now.

Relax, Sam. Only one round has occurred. Mia didn't have the ammo to move up to get one of the top QBs (if they even wanted one). There are still QBs out there for the picking. L. Jackson just never did it for me, and it seems like many other teams feel the same way.

True. JJ was the man.

If tannehill gets hurt agin i will be slapping you until you eat all the nonesense youve posted so far.
First .....dont you think its a little early to determine if its Historic?
Bahabaaaaaha
Dude. The Pats had 2 draft picks in the first round. They wanted no part of any of them. The Loser Jets and Bills sure jumped like puppy dogs to move up and grab one though.
Your delusional.
GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Maybe he could get hurt and maybe he could stay healthy the rest of his career. Why does that make tcpf clueless and you and chryen the almighty gods of future injuries?
Neither one of you can prove either way to be true yet so why all the attacks. You and chryen are both "my way or the highway". No one can have a different opinion than you? If they due no reason to constantly attack.
Grimey, because injuries to the knee are....are....are....(not only in football but basketball, baseball, ....and even in Golf) the worst injury for an athlete to have. Do you disagree???????

And tcpf talks about marino had like 15 surgeries..
But marino didnt had to scramble because he was one of the best qbs in the pocket as opposed to tannehill who sucks in the pocket...>DEER IN THE HEADLIGHTS.
Tannehill has to make things happen with his feet. Thats where the injury happens.
We needed insurance at the qb position and now we are stuck with two scrubs who will backup Tannehill.
