Emergency QB Rule?

Question about the emergency QB rule -

Is this a legal scenario:

If Pat White is listed as the emergency QB, its not the 4th Qtr, Pats's lined up in the Wildcat at shot gun QB, and Chad Pennington is at wideout?

Legal? If so, we just gained a roster spot.

Pat White won't be listed as a QB. he will be a WR on "paper"

As long as White is part of the active 45 man roster for the game, he can lineup wherever whenever. The emergency QB rules only apply to a QB if he is dressed for the game, but not among the active 45.

They said he will working as a QB but to get him on the field they will have to work it however Pittsburgh did with Kordell Stewart.

If your 3rd quarterback is used before the 3rd quarter your #1 and #2 QB's are no-longer eligible to play at ANY position.

If Pat White is listed as the #3 QB and he lines up while the #1 QB is till on the filed, I think that enables the #1 QB to stay on as he never left the field.

But it is more likely that they would list White as something else. RB,WR or as someone else suggested 'Wildback'

Not necessarily, he can still be listed as a QB, he just cant be an "emergency QB" and use the special roster exemption...

I was just looking at this...If anyone was as confused as I was about this...here is a clarification.

White can still be listed as the 3rd QB but as long as he is listed on the active 45 man roster, he can play at any time.

Most times the 3rd QB is listed as inactive so the team can activate another player of need. The 3rd QB still dresses for the game but is inactive and that's where the emergency QB rule comes into play with the 4th quarter stipulation.

White will be our 3rd QB. Henne will play if Penni gets hurt and White can still play WR...Wildcat....whatever. While he still eats up a roster spot, he can still be utilized as the "45th guy" at WR or WCQB.

This makes it even more important for our backup players to be able to play special teams....not good for Wilford.

I like the idea of having him in the game as a WR in a regular set as well. I could see a reverse where White takes the ball from Pennington and throws a deep pass. The movement in the backfield would pull the safeties up leaving Ginn one-on-one with a CB.

yes...many options with PW.

We had the 12th ranked offense in the NFL last year. 345 ypg last year. 11th rushing with 1897 yards and 10th passing with 3632 yards.

Our downfall was our scoring offense. We were ranked 21st with 345 points. Secondly, we were 23rd in 3rd down conversions.

If we can average another 3 points a game or more this year we will be up around 400 points which would be a tremendous boost and account for more wins.

I think we have the ability to move up to a top 5 offense this year because of...

1 a more experienced/comfortable Chad P.
2 the new look Wildcat with Pat White
3 a healthy Ronnie Brown
4 development of Ted Ginn
5 better depth/more options at WR
6 development of players like London, Lowber, Armstrong, etc.
7 the time teams spend worrying about the WC options
8 a healthier offensive line
9 a better center

That's not what it says. Says, Henne will most likely be the 3rd ACTIVE QB so if Pennington gets hurt then Henne can come in and the other two can come back in as needed. That makes the most sense.

That doesn't mean 3 points in every game. It just means on the average.

Last year...for instance, give us 7 extra in week 1 to beat the Jets and take away 10 from the 25 point woopin (hehe) we put on the Pats in week 3.

We still have to put the points on the board at the right times or when we need to.

The difference between the 345 points we scored and the goal of 400 is 55. We may need more of those points vs NE as opposed to when we play the Bucs. In any case, we are better off in a top 5 offense than a top 12 offense. It leads to better time of posession, keeping the ball out of Tom Brady's hands...etc.

Yep - I agree.

We should have beaten the Jets in week 1, and we should have beaten the HOU when we played them. I just watched the replay and they converted 2 4th downs (one 4th & 10) on their last drive to win the game...man!

Those extra 55 points would have come in handy against the Pats once, AZ and BALT. But we lost those ones fair and square.

Again, I totally agree about scoring more...was just impressed at how well we did in close games.
