What they should do and what they will do are worlds apart. I have little faith in anything at this point. We have dropped out of contention for any of the elite prospects to fall to us at 8.
They have show that they plan on going into the season with a rotation of Earl Mitchell and Jordan Phillips. This is Tannenbum's pride talking since JP was his guy. At 13 they SHOULD take one of the Bama DT's but they won't.
They also won't take Conklin because he's a tackle and they would rather go into the season with Sam Young or someone like aging and injured, 32 year old, Jermon Bushrod (who they are chasing).
They obviously do not value guards so they will skip these guys until the 3rd round or later. They could have had the best RT in the league for only $6.2M but decided to pass. They also do not value RB's as they would rather go after a mid-level guy like CJ Anderson.
It will likely be a CB or DE with a long shot at WLB since not many meet the "prototype" at 6'3.
At this point I would just trade down. The talent level drops off at 8 so may as well get down around 17-18 and have a good shot of landing the same value.
What they should do....
Cut Earl Mitchell
Sign Evan Mathis, Nick Fairley, Geoff Schwartz
Draft Kevin Dodd at 13, Kendall Fuller at 42, Devontae Booker at 73

We do need at least another DT (a total of 4), maybe Jordan Phillip will develop this year, but their needs to be a rotation of DT's. Suh can't play every down still be effective at the end of the game. Earl Mitchell graded very poorly. IMO Mitchell and the LB's are why Miami has been so poor at defending the run.
I looked at the 2013 & 2014 rosters; you are right that the Dolphins have historical only rotated 3 DT's.
We still need at least one DT that is better than Mitchell. Mitchell is 28 y/o and has reached his ceiling. It just isn't good enough for a starting DT especially when he is playing next to a productive DT and DE.
